You're arguing the wrong point to the wrong crowd.

To us, the Slashdot Crowd, Individual Rights is Social Stability. Anything that hampers Individual Rights is upsetting the Social Stability. Plus, your argument is weak on its main point, upsetting Social Stability is not necessarily a bad thing and doing so does not always result in violence. As long as we are free to make our choices and not be suppressed by the Government, we are happy and content.

China may have experienced some really nasty forms of government rule, but it does not excuse the current government from its behavior and responsibilities. Your post also hints that people can not rule themselves properly and ignores that the current government in China is using Social Stability as an excuse for corruption and abuse of those, who in general, do not like the current government.

And do not give us the multicultural excuse for oppression. There are a number of multicultural societies that are stable and do not need to be oppressed to function.

Their whole online infrastructure is built to handle the busiest hours of the busiest days of online Christmas shopping. Anonymous could never ever get enough people to make a noticeable dent in Amazon.com's ability to take orders.

How would a domain squatter know you worked at this company?
Why would they even investigate who works there and used their name?
Why don't you simply take take possession of the domain? If they used your information, just contact the registrar and do the whole "I forgot my password and I don't have control of that email address anymore" routine.

Isn't that kinda the definition of "accident?"

Not really. If you point a gun at someone your intent is to kill them whether you want too or not. Guns are designed to kill people and when they do, with intent or not, they are doing what they are designed to do. If you do "gun play", your intent is to kill someone whether you know it or not. Using a gun in an unsafe manner is not an accident.

Another example, if you show off your new gun to a friend and don't check to make sure it is unloaded, then that means you are lacking common sense. All guns are to be considered to be loaded until YOU check to make sure it is not. Never assume a gun is unloaded. As far as many gun people would say, this is not an accident.

  11. Re:Our way of life is not under threat! on Microsoft Says "War on Terror" is Overblown · · Score: 1

I don't for a second want to say that the loss of these lives through an unspeakable act of senseless violence is a trivial matter, but we need to put these figures in perspective. In the United Kingdom, more are killed in road traffic accidents in a couple of weeks than were in the July 7th bombings. In the United States roughly three times as many people are killed in gun accidents per year than 9/11.

You mean, killed by guns, not killed in gun accidents. Few people are killed in gun accidents in the US and the overwhelming vast majority of those are preventable by slightest bit of common sense and following gun safety rules.

    Other than that, good post!

This is such an easy solution

    1) Talk to your recruiter and find out what is happening. This could just be left hand doing something that right hand does not know about. If you don't get this resolved how you want it to be resolved, don't take the job. There is plenty of work out there for people who want to work and have skills. Recruiters and HR in general hate it when this happens. When Amazon.com moved me and the moving company screwed up and I asked my HR rep what to do. They made me sit down and tell them everything about the move so they could contact the moving company and get it resolved. To quote them, "If they screw up your move, we're not happy because you are not happy and we also paid them."
    2) Do not act on or believe anything that anyone is saying until you have the written contract to sign. Read it, understand it, don't quit your job until you have signed this and sent it back and the recruiter says they have it. Make it clear that you will not take the job until you get the paper work. Make a copy of everything for your records.
    3) If they still screw you over, then you don't have to stay there. You may just work one year and then find another job. The company will lose in the long run because they will not be able to hold top talent. Your life does not begin nor end with a job. Trust me, this will hurt the company in the long run much more than it hurts you.
    4) Move on with your life no matter what happens. If you get screwed over, then just suck it up and move on. Don't be bitter and don't hold a grudge (Although, you might suggest to others in the industry not to work there). Just move on with your life and enjoy it.

Exactly! If someone could make a MMORPG that the average person could play a couple of hours a night and feel like they got enough but not feel lame for taking 2 years to get a level 60 character, then they would make a ton of money. I know I would sign up and shoot my TV if I could play a game that I interact with others, have fun, could play 2 hours a night, and at the end of 2 hours, be done and get up and goto the gym. I don't want to be addicted and I don't want to invest a ton of time into a game. I just want something to relax for a couple of hours every weekday night (I don't turn on my computer during the weekends).
