Not only that but also Jessie Vincent showed at oscon (his 5 minute speech starts at 2:13 on the video) How he already reversed engineered and installed ubuntu 9.04 on the Kindle. After watching his presentation and hearing about all the crap amazon actually does with these things, I am surprised anyone would still even consider buying one.

I wouldn't be so sure on that, anyone can read a mail-listing Ill quote this from Marsh Ray on the ietf mail list:

I can confirm the severity of the TLS MITM bug. I've had a working
exploit going since the end of August.

Steve Dispensa and myself put together (with help of many of course) an
industry working group to address it. I think we were successful in
producing a preliminary fix, which vendors are in various stages of
    testing and deployment.

We'd agreed to responsibly delay disclosure to give the industry time to
    coordinate the fix.

I am glad to see that not everyone is jumping on this bandwagon. The Cloud represents problems especially where some countries and or companies have strong data protection laws. This is where the big wigs seem to fail with their cloud vision. While the idea is not all bad it is not all good either, to many issues.

What about the ISP's ? They already complain about p2p clogging up networks for e.g, well its going to be a lot of fun when everyone is on the cloud and people are pulling and pushing their BIG files all over the place. What about net throughput , can their networks handle the load if this does get big ? Do they have the network Infrastructure to support it ?

imo I feel this is just another internet marketing fad .com, web2.0, now cloud, it will die down, until something new comes along.

kind of funny you say that really. Ever notice that most of these new so called "stars" almost always have a one hit wonder then you never hear about them again ? This is one of the problems with MI wealthy sick executives just want to milk sound X , pushing it to the limit until its sold out people dont want to hear it anymore then they start with the next "star". Rinse , repeat, profit. Except that today people don't want to pay for that one hit wonder crap.

Thats been my motto these last few years _if_ I buy physical media. Usually I first visit website from bandX see what merchandising deals they have with whatever partner webshop. More times than most you can get some really cool stuff at a decent price e.g. limited extras, and or editions etc etc. Recently I actually bought a special from one of my favorite metal bands which had a exclusive 2 disc set along with a DVD in the case with some recent and past videos for 15$ incl. shipping and handling (that was most expensive part) . They even stated if you buy through our partner webshop most profits go directly to them. Well justified 15$ imho, with around 3 hours of content plus videos.

seriously ... I'm not surprised. What happened to innovation? Most games now are all sequels to previous games with better graphics or newer engines than the previous release and the principal is still the same. Where is the cutting edge ? Something new that hasn't been done before ? A must have, giving the player full control of the virtual world . I think back on earlier rpg's for e.g. The player was actually allowed to input text instead of choosing from some stupid presets. Think of this with today's technology. In the end its not really the development studios its the damn publishers and other companies funding development studios so they can have their ads on startup screens and rape the profits.
