Hmmm... China and India's combined CO2 emissions total about 70% of the United States levels as of 1995. Looky here.

Interestingly enough, their combined population is about 8 times that of the US. Don't blame the third world; while their industries are less equipped to deal with pollution control/reduction of any kind, the sheer volume of industries in more developed nations makes them much bigger polluters.

Oh, and sorry about the Geoshitties link.

Well, there's a taste for everything. Hell, some people like Britney Spears, does that make it good music? People watch The Young and the Restless, does that make it good television?

Of course, apples and oranges here in a way. I suppose there were *SOME* good things about Pinochet's regime that some Chileans appreciated, but I would hardly call him a "benign" dictator.

  13. Pinochet...? on The Case for the Empire · · Score: 4, Insightful

Make no mistake, as emperor, Palpatine is a dictator--but a relatively benign one, like Pinochet.

Wow, calling Pinochet "relatively benign" is about the biggest stretch I've ever heard of. Sure, beningn to the US and its economic interests, but I think any Chileans in the room will disagree.

  14. EA is a big deal... on EA Cites MS Bullying, Says No Xbox Online Games · · Score: 4, Interesting

The fact that Sega and EA couldn't be friends is, IMO, one of the reasons the Dreamcast got killed. Don't underestimate the power of EA Sports's games (which are re-released with minor improvements every year, so sales for their "series" are always huge) and the multitude of developers that EA publishes for. This *could* mean trouble for M$. Sure, they're only mentioning online play but what's Slashdot without a little extrapolation?
