If the companies hadn't pushed 3D back then, the market for VGA's wouldn't have become bigger, and we would never have the technology we have today.
If you think that today's 3D AAA games are dumbed down, have a look at Dragon Age, Stalker or Dawn of War 2.
That is true, but if each plane that is not shot down causes damage worth 5 million dollars (yeah, I know, they can't... just pointing out my intention), not to mention the cost in human lives, then it's perfectly logical to shoot them down with 3 million dollar missiles. Obviously, if there was a 10k alternative, that would be much better...
I don't think you read it correctly: while OS sales rise and fall (and rise like crazy with Windows 7), the rest remain more or less constant, as each is only marked by the width of their band (for example, Office constantly provides slightly less than $4B). Or would you believe that Microsoft makes twice as much from Office as it does from Windows?
The by far most realistic duel I've seen in a movie was the one between Dick Liddil and Wood Hite in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford" (holy crap, long title... not as long as the movie, though). The duel was in a room with one of them sitting on a bed, and they empty their guns at each other from about two meters away, and no one gets hurt...

I sat down during my first year of college, and finished the game 100%. It was great fun, even though the tech is indeed ancient. About the only annoying thing would be the control scheme. While controlling Mario himself was fairly standard (analog stick), the camera was straight from hell. Controlled very grossly by the four C-buttons, and prone to turn around whenever it felt like it. I must have walked in a door just to accidentally walk right out again a hundred times...

I went with the not buying and not pirating plan. I played it at a friends house, and it didn't seem all that special to me... oh well, back to playing STALKER

I remember a LAN game of SupCom, with 8 players, and a 5k unit cap... after about 3 hours of playing, the whole game world suddenly froze... the graphics would work without stuttering, but it seemed as though the input was completely ignored... is that a side-effect of messing with multi-threading?
When visiting the US, I found out that my cellphone doesn't support GSM 1900... so I went to BestBuy and bought myself an unlocked phone, which was crazy expensive... I had no choice, since I absolutely had to be reachable. Now, this was a really bad phone, Windows Mobile, etc... and I spent $400 on it!
Only after I grudgingly bought it, did the clerk tell me about the 30 day refund... I was rather happy returning it after my two week stay. Thanks, Best Buy!!! >:-D
