Releasing a closed-source Windows-only IE-based browser that claims to do things already done by other browsers is a non-story, especially on Slashdot. The discovery that it's adware can only be addressed with a single-word response:
The translation of "astronaut" is "star sailor." The literal definition of "astronaut" is a person who is trained for space flight. A "sailor" sails. In a boat. On the water.
Transflective displays suck. Dell puts them in the Axims, and I can tell you they don't work. The OLPC uses a dual-mode display that shows up as a greyscale LCD in the sunlight -- like a wristwatch, or an older cellphone.
Intel invented USB. It was available long before the iMac even hit the market. There's something to be said about the iMac ditching legacy serial interfaces, but I'd wager the correct statement would be "iMac brought USB to Apple users."
MacintoshII (1986)... same year as dos4! brought CD-ROM/Multimedia to the marketplace.
That's a nice theory, but it's all wrong. The Mac II had a small hard drive and a couple of floppy drives -- and not even 1.4MB drives, but the old 800k models.
deal with it.
What? Your absolute ignorance? Or the fact that the only actual Apple advance here -- firewire -- isn't even available on some of their computers any more?

Each one of those is a link, and every single one of them to the same domain.
This is a spammer site, and every page on the site has a footer labeled "links and sponsorship," also filled with spam links. I feel really bad for the poor suckers who wind up giving them money.

This is the false sense of security I am talking about. UNIX might be more secure than Windows, but that only goes for the system itself. The actual content that matters to normal people is not a single bit safer on any UNIX-like system than it is on any Windows system.
This idiot is stating that because some users don't understand the UNIX security model, the UNIX security model is flawed. Apparently, as far as he's concerned, if ~ gets destroyed, the whole system may as well be destroyed. He's blathering about a "false sense of security," but I have never, anywhere, ever, heard anyone say that you don't have to back up your data if you run UNIX.
Sound and fury, understanding nothing. Typical of OSNews, but sad that Slashdot's carrying this crap.
Multidimensional representations of time do not get you to Oz. "Pantheistic solipsism" does, according to the book.
The central idea of that book was that the world was all myth, and as such there's no reason you can't hop from myth to myth, as long as your particular myth was written by someone who will script you to do it. The parallel universes were only parallel in that they were all represented in works of fiction.
The mayor of the fucking city has more than a slight responsibility to figure out what is going on in his city before he goes to hang out with Oprah and spread bullshit. If some wild-eyed nutjob hobo claims murder in the Superdome, it can be safely ignored. When the primary governmental authority in New Orleans claims murder in the Superdome, he had damn well better be sure it happened. That's called "responsibility," and it comes with the job. This isn't some international crime ring. It doesn't require James Bond. Either there was murder in the Superdome or there wasn't, and if Ray Nagin can't be bothered to find out which it is before he shoots his mouth off on national syndication, then he's not doing his job.
"DOES NOT COMPUTE"
The Slashdot summary claims the board certified the manufacturers because they wouldn't put their code in escrow. It's more likely the EFF is suing the board for certifying the manufacturers despite their refusal to place their code in escrow.
First dupes, then ads, now stories that don't even make sense.
They all have the same features, the same performance, the same plugins cross-ported to all the blog platforms, and shoddy integration of other cgi programs. None of them can quite keep up with things like referrer spam, although B2Evolution gives it a good shot with a central blacklist.
I would like to set up a blog for my family which includes at least a decent gateway to something like webcalendar and coppermine or gallery2. The only package that comes close to this is drupal, but that program tends to get lost in masturbatory taxonomy garbage. It also has a big problem with its architecture getting in the way of usable interfaces. If you don't believe me, try setting up the Event module.
When will something new come along? I'm not interested in writing one myself; I don't have the time. I just can't understand why I appear to be the only person who wants a consistent interface across the various sections of a website -- without resorting to the "Kubrick" skin, which appears to have been ported to every program on the planet.
They changed the article so it doesn't mention Halo. Now it's marketing quotes with no analysis. Much better... or something. Seems like a website run by lazy people with nothing to say. I hope it doesn't get any attention from slashdot any more.

Not good enough. Macromedia already made flash 7 for linux. What's the point of switching to gnash if it comes without flash 8 support?

Your program's only as stable as the "core libraries" your company wants you to use.

Does the author think "data loss" is a synonym for "unauthorized copying"? These companies had better hire some data recovery experts!

It's the US government. It would have cost $12 million but they needed to buy a screwdriver, too.
In zero gravity, things wouldn't travel in parabolic arcs. You need gravity for that.
Not that "zero gravity" exists, anyway. If I REALLY want to shift into Pedantic Nerd mode, where there's matter, there's gravity.
