According to the article, so far there's only a 4.7% increase between the 4x and 8x cards. Personally, I'd say thats a pretty good start. Of course, I'm still using a GeForce2, TNT2, and Rage128...so as you can see, graphics cards aren't that big of a deal to me.

What I get worried about with these upgrades is that they're going to come out with games that actually require them! And them I'm screwed :(.

Personally, I find it interesting that it continues to seem like every card *needs* more bandwidth, more power, etc (and yes, i know these cards operate at lower voltages, but still...). Someday I'm going to need that special SOUNDBLASTER QUASIEXTAGYWITHCHERRIESONTOP made for the SPECIAL SOUND CARD BUS WITH MORE BANDWIDTH. I dread the day when i need a special slot for every type of card i want :(.

So gogo with the ultrauberbandwidth increases, but keep that backwards compatability! I like pci graphics cards sometimes!

  4. Tree-Based Reputation on Make Money Fast Online · · Score: 1

Newspapers are places people traditionally go for information (news..on paper...hence the name!). Logically, they automatically have a userbase (their readership) as soon as they 'take the leap' to online publishing/features. Classified ads are something people expect from a newspaper: they're used to them, and its no suprise that this can make them successful online.

According to the article, most of the successful newspaper websites treat their online portion as an extension of their print version (i.e. allowing people to 'upgrade' their classified ad to be posted online as well for an additional fee...at least thats how I read it.)

The significance people place on these 'profitable websites' is misplaced: the reson they are successful is because they have, for the most part, a solid backing in PRINT. However, those sites that attempt to do something different and are still successful bear examination. (i'll leave this as an exercise for the reader :p)

I believe that this success is not true internet success: it comes from their ties to print media and the name recognition that comes with that.

The US has already tried to switch to the SI unit system. The previous attempt failed miserably: some people just don't want to switch, some people honestly just don't have the mental capacity to understand the difference between the two systems, and relearning a new system just isn't something that they can do. Also, the costs associated with converting to the SI system would be enormous. Paying to have thousands upon thousands of miles of road remarked with new signs would be prohibitively expensive. I think that since the schools have been teaching the metric system for years now, the deciding factor is in fact the infrastructure that has already been laid down.

Think about it: mile markers, X miles to [town name], speed limits - all of these signs would have to be replaced.

I wouldn't exactly call our units system archaic, its rather simple once you understand the basis - the human body as compared to the basis of the metric system (base 10 and something involving the earths core or some such).

As for the actual posting: if you mean metric as the SI system, 60 second minutes, 60 minute hours, 24 hours days, etc ARE SI time.

as for cable internet: i'm still pissed off that my downstream and upstream were capped when comcast took over. i went from having > 1 Mbyte/s downstream to 1.5Mbit downstream, and my upstream was capped to that horrible number (128 Kbits/s). they don't offer a 'business' service with higher speeds (they are planning to i believe...supposedly 3.0Mbit down/ 256Kbit up...but planning on charging well over twice the price from what i've heard) . they won't let you upgrade to a faster cap, myself and many other users have asked for the opportunity. its a shame...cable is the only broadband that i can get at home...and the rose colored glasses shattered.
