According to this review of the ipod mini, firewire is slowered than usb.
The Mini comes with both FireWire and USB 1.1/2.0 connections. Over FireWire, our songs transferred at 2.6MB per second; over USB 2.0, they synced at a brisker 3.18MB per second.
Why should that $200 rebate be set aside in your comparison? Anyone who frequents the bargains websites knows that Dell always has these types of promotions for their windows boxes.
If you take into consideration the rebate, and the fact that dell charges tax on the 2400N (because it can only be purchased at dell business versus dell home for the 2400), you are actually paying the exact same price for the 2 configurations.
Don't be mistaken, you are still paying the Microsoft tax.

a quick google search reveals that adults make up a full 40% of gamecube buyers compared to 60% for the console industry as a whole. that means that all 3 console manufacturers are targeting pretty much the same demographic; the current surge in sales of the gamecube will impact the sales of both the ps2 and the xbox.
Question: I thought that United States currency was legal tender for all debts. Some businesses or governmental agencies say that they will only accept checks, money orders or credit cards as payment, and others will only accept currency notes in denominations of $20 or smaller. Isn't this illegal?
Answer: The pertinent portion of law that applies to your question is the Coinage Act of 1965, specifically Section 102. This is now found in section 392 of Title 31 of the United States Code. The law says that: "All coins and currencies of the United States, regardless of when coined or issued, shall be legal-tender for all debts, public and private, public charges, taxes, duties and dues."
This statute means that all United States money as identified above are a valid and legal offer of payment for debts when tendered to a creditor. There is, however, no Federal statute mandating that a private business, a person or an organization must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services. Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash unless there is a State law which says otherwise. For example, a bus line may prohibit payment of fares in pennies or dollar bills. In addition, movie theaters, convenience stores and gas stations may refuse to accept large denomination currency (usually notes above $20) as a matter of policy.
Wouldn't it make sense to take into account whether the planet could feasibly sustain life too? I mean could a 700km round body in space support an atmosphere?
So you're proposing a two planet solar system? Just Earth and possibly Mars?
it seems silly to go about redefining something like what constitutes a planet. what possible scientific value could this have? why can't we be content to keep the traditional designations of what make up a planet?
that's exactly the problem; there_are_no universal definitions for "planet." the most common definition is "any celestial body that orbits a star". I think we can all see the problem with that definition; we would have to classify even the least massive meteors (probably numbering in the millions in our solar system alone) as planets.
Wow.....i'm really shocked at the prices on these things. "PRO" is 3--$ more for a.13 ghz increase...i mean REALLY here.....*sigh*
The PRO version also comes with a Western Digital Special Edition 120GB Hard Drive and a Pioneer DVD-RW Drive. So, the $300 upgrade may be well worth it.
Still, I'd like to have one of these (or rather the Zaurus, since I'm a Unix programmer) with integrated 802.11, which would enable me to throw in all sorts of other gadgets and/or a shitload of memory and still have full connectivity.

HandStory Suite reviewed as AvantGo Alternative by the Handheld Computing Weekly.
'HandStory Suite' 'Almost every Palm powered user knows about AvantGo.
It's bundled on the installation disc with new PDAs, and it's long been billed
as the killer app for your Palm. Its appeal is undeniable; the program is a
free, convenient Web clipping service that delivers freshly-updated content
you've subscribed to -- like the New York Times, Joke of the Day, and The Weather
Channel--directly to your PDA at each HotSync to read on the road.' 'The once
undisputed king of offline content is starting to show some cracks, though.
AvantGo can't take advantage of the Sony Clie's popular full-screen, HiRes+display,
for instance, and financial difficulties at the company have forced it to adopt
a two-tiered service plan, with content beyond 2MB no longer free. Worse, the
company has clamped down on its Web partners, charging them fees that have driven
many to scale back their support for AvantGo.' 'But there are alternatives.
If you'd like to experiment with offline browsing and want to see what the world
has to offer beyond the reassuring AvantGo logo, step right up to... HandStory...'
'HandStory is the most complete and elegant of the AvantGo alternatives. Designed
to be a complete media reader that features an integrated memo pad, doc reader,
image viewer, eBook reader, and Web clip browser, it can also take advantage
of the Clie's HiRes+mode. Armed with HandStory, you may be able to abandon several
other apps and rely almost exclusively on one program.' 'The program's desktop
component has conduits for converting Web pages, text documents, and graphics
to the Palm. The big news, though, is that HandStory is trying to take on AvantGo
in a big way, with a library of about 150 clips ready for download. That's small
potatoes compared to the thousands of AvantGo channels available, but HandStory
promises to continue building its collection.'
They only used the flourescent marker to show that they'd successfully pushed the genes into the cells. It's not at all easy to push genes into a grown animal, the cell walls tend to not let any proteins in. In this case, they've apparently succeeded quite well.

Though I use Linux 95% of the time, when I'm using the Windows machine, iTunes is the player that I always use, and I have no major qualms with it.
How can it be the player that you "always" use, if it's only been released on windows for all of 3 days?

The article focuses primarily on gaming rigs. An Alpha/Sparc system won't be very good at that. What you need is an Athlon XP or a Pentium 4.
