  1. Re:But could you really type on it? on Holographic Keypads Float Into View · · Score: 2, Insightful

I understand the hesitancy, but at the same time is this not a something of a Luddite view? A new technology comes along, it could replace a current one, but you don't see how it could be possible or how anyone would be able to work with it. How did we move from the chisel to the pen? The pen to the keyboard? We adapted.

Maybe your hand position determines the home point of the keyboard and the hologram moves with you so you don't need to look or reposition your hands. Or I'm sure there are other ways around the loss of tactile feedback. Aural? Visual? Electrode on your scrotum?

So to your question of: "But could you really type on it?" Yes, I think you could. You may not hit 100wpm on your first day, but how fast were you when you started typing? When you picked up a pen the first time?

Actually, Disney is not the only ones that call their customers "Guests". The chain restaurant I worked at in college did as well. NOT calling people guests, even outside of the restaurant, can be a hard habit to break if you work there for any length of time.

Or maybe the poster has just seen that Disney theme park employees call themselves Cast Members and call customers Guests, and he went with their labels...when in Rome and all...And no, I've never worked at a Disney park. I've only been to one once many years ago.

I agree that the sales numbers do have some bearing, I guess my point was that if you are trying to refute the "Xbox is 3rd" claim, the sales figures from one game is not enough to accomplish that.

How do the sales of one game show that X-Box is wiping the floor with the Gamecube? I'm not saying it's not, but I don't think sales of a single game, one that probably didn't appeal to what are considered "core" Gamecube users, proves one console is better than the others.

Until Napster, you had to do a bit of actual work to get music, and you can be sure "Joe Q. Kazaa" isn't going to be learning IRC just so they can save a trip to Best Buy. Hell, I've had computer savvy friends that can't use IRC after I've sat them down, explained it, and written every step and command out on paper. Something about text commands and interfaces make people's eyes glaze over.

Ok, I have two problems with your theory as is:

Yes he does. He tells Trinity and Tank before he goes to save Morpheus and he tries to tell Morpheus after they save him. That is when Morpheus replies that the Oracle only told him what he needed to hear.

I'm not exactly sure how Neo's powers would be explained, but I have a feeling the "melding" with Smith may very well be to blame.

Except that Neo exhibits his powers BEFORE the melding with Smith. He stopped all the bullets in mid-air and he fought and beat Smith one handed with his increased speed. THEN he does the "meld with Smith" thing.

It depends on the tone of the review/post. In this case, I'm glad they posted it because I've been very interested in a Sidekick since they were in development, but always put off getting one because of the rumored color model that was always on the horizon. I'd stopped following any news on them, so this is probably the only way I would have found out, for a while at least.

I thought the tone of the post was fine. It was a positive review without too much brown-nosing. It's also more info about the device than I've gotten from the comments, with over 60 posted almost all of them are complaining about the red banner.

That analogy only works if I agreed to buy a frig that I only get to use the left half of. In that case, yes it is like Tivo. If I agreed to the whole frig then your analogy is wrong. When I bought the DirecTivo, I bought a device that would hold 30 hours of programming. I still have that 30 hours, even with their star ads, since the ads don't take up any of the space I use to record my shows. If I had bought a device with a 30gig HD and they took 2gigs from me THEN we might have a problem, but I still have everything that was advertised for the unit.

I'm all for the star ads, if I don't want to watch them I just DON'T SELECT THEM. And with the revenue from the ads, Tivo gets to stay in business longer. Win-win.
