Happened a lot with early lunar probes, especially the Soviet ones -- for varying reasons they'd miss the firing that was supposed to drop them into lunar orbit, or on a collision course... and off they went into the wild black yonder, eventually winding up in solar orbit. Being as the Sun is a star, they got exactly what you said they did!
Anyway, I think it's Gathering of Developers and/or PopTop that are here. Take a look at this site -- I'm pretty sure that's them, although I haven't looked for a while.
Just because something will make you more money, it's not not always morally right, and it's not always legal. Either one of those things is going to cost you in bad morale, worker resentment, and bad press. Firing somebody for being too slow or whatever is one thing, fucking them over like ea_spouse wrote is another.
And from your logic and a lot of other peoples' logic, you seem to be saying that this is OK. It's not OK for a company to abuse people. It should either not hire them, it should fire them in a fair and efficient manner with full disclosure (after giving the person an explanation and a chance to fix the problems), and it should do its best to help people rather than screw them, or try to get a better idea of who it is hiring.
No, it's not OK. Would your head implode if you realized that sometimes, people do have legitimate gripes, never mind how desirable the job is? You hire somebody, you gotta be fair to 'em.
You can run the tivo without it being plugged into a phone jack, but after two weeks it will run out of guide data. You didn't really think it just guesses what's going to be on, did you? There is tracking but supposedly it's anonymous tracking only. But you can opt out if you want to.
And you don't literally have to use a phone jack except for the initial setup (which is a goof I can't believe they still haven't fixed) but after that it can get data over an Internet connection.
You are forgetting the value of experience workers have on a particular project. It's difficult to just up and replace people who have worked on a given project for a while because they are very familiar with it but a new guy would have to learn it all over again, and that takes time and money.
No, it could very well work. If done initially at the right time.
Sadly, the mindset isn't like that anymore. The managers don't listen to the engineers who are actually building the stuff, "little people" feel like they can't speak up, and so we've lost not one but two orbiters because of it.
You would think that the first time they would have learned the lesson to not ignore the needs, wants, and comments of the little guys, but for some reason management creep "wins" every time.
And as a St. Louisan I've always been a little sad that McDonnell didn't get the contract as it did for Mercury and Gemini -- or there'd be a full-scale Apollo mockup next to the Mercury and Gemini ones here in the Prologue Room at the St. Louis plant.
Maybe the ones in Clayton (that's Clayton's zipcode you listed) or near it. The U's main mailing address on the website, and the one that covers main campus, is 63130 (University City.) The medical school's zip code is 63110.
I work at WUSM, a family member works on main campus, and I grew up in University City.:)
Fortunately, the Schnucks semi-regional chain (mostly local) here in St. Louis refuses to do any kind of loyalty card program because whoever's in charge of those feels they're wrong. Consequently, I buy my food there (and their being close to my house doesn't help, but I did specifically research their stance on this issue.) They're doing quite well, too. And they don't overcharge on stuff like milk, like the local yuppie chain Dierbergs, either.
All the money went to getting the Walschaerts gear correct on the locomotive! (the locomotive is very very good, although it moves around so much in the trailers with an enormous amount of motion blur so I can't tell for sure what it is, it looks an awful lot like a Santa Fe 4-8-4, the sort used to pull the Super Chief before it switched to "warbonnet" F units.)
A pirate you were meant to be?... they even included the slashcode-fubared-rogue-spaces link. Obviously, they have minions reading geek forums... so they know people are disappointed in the quality of their stuff. And ignore all the comments. Yup. They're egotists for sure. Now, they did make the movies so they don't HAVE to listen to customers... but it's a good idea to -- and pays off later.
IDRTFWS. RTFPO (public opinion). Do you really think people out there who are dealing with this crap every single day really give a shit about how to capitalize it? No. They just know that they hate it, and they want it gone. Some company bitching about grammar is going to be seen as whining over something not worth whining over. Certainly the millions spent on bitching about everyone's grammar (languages do change, driven by how people use them) could be used for good things if directed toward getting rid of spam... SPAM... UCE... junk mail... whatever you want to call it.
Junk email is now "spam". We don't care how we capitalize it. Spam is SpAm is SPAM is spam is spaM... you get the idea. We hate it, and your stupid marketing campaign isn't going to change peoples' minds. A tissue is a kleenex, a photocopy is a Xerox, and so on.
Get over it. You waited too long and the definition of the word has changed. Don't waste your money. You've been complaining about this for years and no one has listened. We're not going to listen now.
I just love the way they say "misuse of signal" (am I beaming it up someone's ass? No. How is watching something misusing it, since it's broadcast for the purpose of watching!?) and "signal piracy" (if it's broadcast over the air on a public station, not DirecTV or cable, how is it pirating if I set up an apparatus to receive it!?).
People who throw around buzzwords to be intimidating and/or cool need to be thrown into boston harbor along with the tea when we riot and burn the city.
Oh wait... they're probably doing THAT on their own by now.
Really? Better go read all those bills they're trying to ram through Congress.

Hi, from Brentwood! *wave!*

What the fuck is with the fucking goddamn fucking cursing!?

Hey, MY lab wants that grant. ;)

Fine. Then why does fax.com still have a $1 TRILLION fine *still outstanding*? That's more than just a cost of business. So why haven't they paid it?
"I hate being right all the time."

... doesn't HURT. doh.

I never read the book! But I was close -- just never got a clear enough view of the front truck.
:)
Hi, fellow train geek!

Good point. Could even be both. ;)

Be a realist.

Stop with the spam already, eh?
Indeed. As in "electromagnetic radiation".
So now you can get nastygrammed if someone links to you with terms someone else doesn't like.
Oh for sure. The people in my local club are great.

Detailed specs and interview (with the owner, not the T-Reg) (emphasis mine)
I don't know, actually... I'd love to see what a VW would say if I could talk to it!
