A) There's no social safety net so if you're sick or hungry, you're SOL.
B) The amount of jail time you get for an offence, it doesn't matter that much if you throw in some extra shit. Only the first murder costs you, they're all free after that.
I have a friend who works at a furniture store. The get a very small commission (2-5%) on the actual item but extra things like extended warrantees, etc. they can get upwards of 50%. VERY strong incentives to sell the add-ons.
I'm with you. There are lots of shows out there that don't have 'traditional western storylines'. OZ is probably one of the best series ever made for it's ability to make you, if not sympathize with, at least understand some seriously nasty people.
Apparently Microsoft kept dicking around, changing things and Nvidia got stuck with a bunch of unusable chips. They would have lost money on XBox if the contract hadn't gone to arbitration. In the end, they made lots of cash but they found Microsoft, "very difficult to work with". Doesn't sound like a big coup for ATI does it? I don't think NVidia particularily wanted to work with MS anymore.
Think about it. Can you think of very many fluids that are cheaper than gas? Other than plain tap water, there really aren't very many liquids that you can get that cheap.
This article describes in detail methanol and ethylene glycol toxicity. People have died from drinking as little as 40ml of a 15% solution of methanol. Interesting thing about using methanol for denaturing ethanol: ethanol is actually listed as the antidote for methanol poisoning.
> I'm sure burning this stuff will be creating > lots of pollution, oh well earth has to end > some day
No, this is BURNING the pollution. Methane is the pollution produced from rotting cow manure. Burning it reduces it to heat, water and carbon dioxide. Much less harmful to the environment.
I've seen all those animated films (I've got 3 kids) and in my mind there is no question that Spirited Away is by far the best of the lot. Little things like how she wrings her hands or curls her toes are enough to make you swear Chihiro is a real girl. In terms of getting attached to the character, feeling sorry for her and being happy when things go well...none of the other films have that emotional depth.
Using the masculine sense for the indefinite article is correct. I don't know about you but all that 'she must do this with her whatever' stuff is quite distracting.
Stupid people have obviously never worked with big, complicated software before. Take something like gcc or gdb. You have a bunch of functions that you implement to support a new target and give them to gdb so it can call them. These have a defined API so you have to implement them with the same arguments. If you don't use one of the arguments, you get a compiler warning. Hence a=a. The compiler will optimize all that redundancy out anyway.
Yeah...Slashdot posted it on Dec. 8 (after I submitted it on Dec. 6). They don't like to be on the cutting edge around here....let the news get a little stale first. I mean, it's only the biggest software deal of the entire year.
Yeah. Studies have shown that the only people who are statistically helped by airbags are unbelted males of average or greater size. Anyone smaller or wearing a seatbelt doesn't need airbags and won't be helped by them. Then there's the whole, "Airbags going off for no reason" thing where the airbag knocks you for a loop (exploding at 300kph, hitting you like Mike Tyson) and THEN you have an accident. That's why I disabled the airbags on the passenger side of my car. I sure as hell won't put my kids or wife behind one of those things.
I would expect that he was talking about something that shoots hot plasma at you, not a laser. But how much plasma is 40 watts worth? And do you have to buy it in little canisters like they're always using in ST Voyager?
doesn't give a cash bonus but they give you the week of Christmas off. In many respects, that's even better than cash since we get to spend more time with family.
Because in the States, you have nothing to lose.

Don't forget that many of these Indian tribes were not conquered and didn't surrender. They signed treaties which were then broken by the white man.
Kaboom?

If this paper is true and there is a limit on consciousness, wouldn't it make the existence of an omnipotent being an impossibility?
Here
Good story.

Send them tubgirl while you're at it. That'll make them rip their eyes out.
a square meter is 100x100 square cm or 10000. So you have 500 * 10000 * 3 / 1000 = 15000kg
So a square km getting 3cm of rain would be 2000 times that (1000^2/500) which is 30 million kg.

Yes....that is called TAXATION and then the money could be used for socialized medicine. Much easier than health insurance.

Hence the name, "dot NET".
Um...Boromir son of Denethor II. Faramir would be his brother.

Regardless of what you think of some of their shadier practices, in general, "Microsoftish" could be considered synonymous with "Good Business"
