  1. Re:A question for westerners on Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer Led Illegal Purge of Male Employees, Lawsuit Charges (mercurynews.com) · · Score: 3, Interesting
As a white guy I'll take a crack at this (and likely be downvoted, but hey...):

I need you westerners to explain something about this feminism fart of yours.

Why is it, and everything along with it, lead by white women?

Most of the "-isms" we love to carry on about in the U.S. stem from some notion of a group of people being underserved or underrepresented in some way. Take a look at the racism/feminism allegations being thrown around in Silicon Valley.

White women are unarguably the most privileged class on this planet. - Most prefer white women for dating as dating app surveys showcase. - Most judicial systems are biased towards white women like no other race or gender on this planet. - They are much more likely to get away with anything and everything than any other class.

Yes, the media-popularized form of beauty is largely "white woman", or with features similar to a white woman. There have been studies that show beautiful people are typically seen as more trustworthy, which may account for getting away with stuff.

I would have to see evidence of judicial systems biasing toward white women. I do know that in custody disputes, the law is typically on the Mother's side... But that's a gender focus, not a race focus.

    - They have the biggest proportion of material wealth given to them for free/without work/without expended effort on this planet unlike any other class. Through history, most luxury resources, animal hides, bling, leathers, every-fucking-thing exploited from colonization, ended up in the rooms and on the bodies of white women.

Again, would need to see evidence of this. For every Paris Hilton there's thousands of "Women of Wal-Mart". The same is true for every Nicki Minaj.

    - Is there a discussion being had among a diverse group of people? White women always get the lead.

Not always. Susana Martinez is Governor of New Mexico. Woman? Yes. White? No. Michelle Obama has started a great deal of public discussions about assorted issues. Another example of an extremely influential woman is Oprah Winfrey. One of the most prominent physicists today is Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Musicians? Race and gender are all over the map, just depends on the style of music. Athletes? again, all over the map, but it depends on the sport.

    - White women were never prosecuted for their gender alone, or their skin alone. They were never forced to wear veils, they were never forced to mutilate their clits, they were never hanged and burned for being women like homosexuals and blacks were for their sexuality and skin color respectively. The closest thing they ever got was witch burning, though that has nothing to do with gender but more individual questionable practices.

Now you are conflating foreign (from the U.S.) religious beliefs and cultural behaviors. Islamic women cover due to their faith, in certain parts of the world that faith is also the government (to a degree), so they will be punished for improper attire.

In some cultures women are mutilated as part of a right of passage. To say nothing about circumcision, some other modern cultures that will circumcise or mutilate a boy as part of his right of passage into manhood. When was the last time you heard of this happening in any first-world country?

White women did get prosecuted, for centuries. Just like women in every other patriarchal society. Women were bought and sold for their hand in marriage. Women did not have a voice in government. Women were used as a sort of parlay between kingdoms to promote peace and an alliance. Hell, women are considered unclean for 7 days a month according to the Bible.

What the fuck is the point of this social justice shit if justice is being defined by the most unjust privileged class in the world - white women?

Wait, so you're telling me that all the backlash towar

Neither of us like the gum-riddled floors and vomit-infused seats, so we pay a little extra to be in a better environment. I'd wager the theaters operating cost is not significantly higher since you aren't attracting the same clientele and won't get the same wear in the theater furniture (not that I've seen those replaced regularly...).

That means you don't use your iPhone a lot. If you use it heavily it will last 1 day max. I routinely wind mine down to near empty because I'm using it constantly. It's a rare day I don't dip below 50% charge at some point and I typically get to 20-30% with at least one mid-day recharge. I actually keep a charge cable in my car while driving. And in case you were wondering my battery works fine - I just use the phone a LOT.

You might think that, but I use my phone as an iPod most days. I've got it loaded up with assorted music and podcasts that I listen to throughout the 8-9 hour workday. If i'm not getting a lot of texts and don't bother with Waze, then I'll get by using only 15% of the battery over the day. Typically I'll be closer to 50% use during the day by browsing the web, checking email, answering texts... Even lower if I use Waze or Pandora.

This is one of my pet peeves with phones and one of the deciding factors about which one I go with. I'd gladly pay the same price or slightly more for a slightly thicker/tougher, longer lasting phone. None of this "bendgate" B.S., none of this race to paper-thin. If it fits in my pocket, can stand a couple drops from 3-4 feet and will put up with the occasional abuse from a kid, that's perfectly fine by me. As it is now, I have to get Otter cases for my phones for fear of them snapping or shattering.

The old nokia-style dumb bricks lasted forever. Sure, I couldn't browse the web but at the time I didn't care to. The early smart phones (android 1-2) were getting there, I had one that would last 3-4 days between charges. Then I had a Galaxy S3 (if I remember right) that barely lasted a day on a single charge. Now with the iPhone 6, I'm able to go a couple days between charges... Less if I'm looking at the thing a lot or streaming music. It's not great, but its acceptable.

    B) Go a la carte, find out that people don't give a shit about 8 channels and make $3 per subscriber?

You would think the realization that the market for some of those nonsense channels, like the dozen televangelist channels with the Pillsbury Dough-Nun that botched the story of creation, would be exceedingly small and not profitable. The production companies could then cut costs and focus on one or two exceptional channels. Taken to the extreme, that means 1 or 2 channels per company, or 2 dozen channels? give or take some one-offs like the WWE channel.

USPS - New Mexico to Texas in 3-4 days... but they put the key in the wrong post box so you gotta bug your neighbors to get your packages.

    DHL - 3 weeks. Easy.

Amazon - I pay for Prime and select 2-Day. For some stupid reason that becomes 5-6 day, no rationale given, no way to question it directly, no way to "update shipping" and have it be correct. This happened for my daughter's birthday present of all things. Sure, I could have ordered sooner, but why exactly am I paying for Prime if I'm not able to get 2-day shipping?

UPS - Typically on-time, sometimes early. Rarely are boxes damaged. Maybe 1/50 chance of losing a box entirely.

Somewhere around the time of the Loudness War when many recording artists stopped caring about dynamic range in their music and instead decided they liked the way that amplitude clipping sounded (~1994). As someone who has worked in pro audio stores, I appreciate high-quality systems and speakers. I listen to music encoded at least to 196k through Sennheiser headphones at work. Most of my friends are content with the label "Bose" or "Harmon Kardon". As long as the bass shakes them up a bit, they're happy. If it's any consolation, the tide seems to be returning to using more dynamic range in music... though maybe not for "pop music".
