I forgot the name of the book but one of the races in it would deplete all the resources of a solar system, built enough ships to move their entire race each with a gigantic solar sail and would then proceed to turn the star nova in order to provide an enormous amount of thrust to move on to the next solar system.
They don't have the budgets necessary to use the days they currently have, adding additional school days will strain already thin budgets, and it will just make the kids who slack off, slack off more. Reducing the pointless waste of time and resources and increasing the schools ability to get and keep good teachers who can engage their students would be a much better use of the proposed legislation and budget. I was in highschool when No Child Gets Ahead was implemented and it encouraged schools to push kids into higher level classes they weren't able to keep up with. Have higher than a C in on level, take honors, have higher than a C in honors, take AP, have higher than a C in AP, take gifted; and it pushed kids who were doing well at the classes for their level into classes which they performed worse in, and it burned them out causing the kids to not like school anymore.
Because Israel has been stating for close to 20 years now that if the rest of the world won't deal with Iran, it will. There are current plans, hardware, and military exercises for exactly this purpose, an air attack on Iranian nuclear centers to destroy their ability to produce materials. Iran is producing a nuclear capability to defend itself from the nuclear capable states around it, and Israel is preparing for a strike against Iran because of their outspoken belief that Israel needs to be destroyed. They're both planning, building, and preparing for when one or the other finally pulls the trigger.

Starting from about second grade until highschool the teachers would always say "now you need to learn cursive this year, because next year you're supposed to know it and use it." and every year they said the same thing and they never fully taught us how to write cursive and they never required it even though they said we would. It was this general apathy combined with the massive influx of computers for computer labs and internet connections that made it to where they just no longer cared and by the time I got to highschool everything was required to be typed and printed off so they stopped even telling us we should learn it, I still cannot even sign my name the same way in cursive every time, much less write or easily decipher cursive.
People also used leather as armor, but so far no one has dug up a leather sword. The physical properties of kevlar as used for armor are entirely different from the physical properties of a good bullet. Kevlar has very high tensile strength allowing it to spread the impact over a large area by deforming and pulling on all the threads around it. With a bullet, you want all the force located in one small, strong, pointy area for penetration; which is why armor penetrating rounds are jacketed or tipped in a metal much stronger than lead or copper(steel, tungsten, depleted uranium).
I agree with this post, until I got my GPS I never knew the names of any of the roads outside the area directly around my house, I could get anywhere from where I was as long as I had been there before. It wasn't until I started driving everywhere with my GPS with it showing me the names off all the roads around me that I started being able to actually give directions to a place.
Yea, I love the windows start menu and border and all that stuff, I downloaded it just for the hell of it and I got an unknown datatype error. There is also one going around which is a windows PDF vulnerability where it will try to automatically download a PDF to your computer which will cause the infection. I have PDFs automatically download on my linux machine and so I'll find 77634.pdf on my desktop and it's a blank document. You gotta love the windows malware which tries to target linux.
These are just a few of the images we've recorded. And you can see, it wasn't what we thought. There's been no war here and no terraforming event. The environment is stable. It's the Pax. The G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate that we added to the air processors. It was supposed to calm the population, weed out aggression. Well, it works. The people here stopped fighting. And then they stopped everything else. They stopped going to work, they stopped breeding, talking, eating. There's 30 million people here, and they all just let themselves die.
Everything will work for a linux computer here as most of the techs run linux too, but if she takes any computer science courses she might need windows. Depending on the class it could be exel, word, or SQL/C#.net/specific compiler the teacher wants. I have managed two years in CS with a linux laptop and had no problems(have to VM windows for an assembler class). Also most schools require spyware on windows machines to check security, firewall, AV, and for "illegal" programs, mac and linux machines are exempt and if a virus goes wild on the network she won't get it.
Oh it is, they just missed their chance at the Sydney Olympics when someone stopped them from putting the Sheva virus into the water filtration system.
Almost all of the Highschools where I grew up and the one I went to had cell towers out by the football field because the school would make money renting the land to the cell companies, almost all of our phones would connect to that tower as well, so you wouldn't even have to create the infrastructure at a lot of highschools with your idea, only implement the latter portion.
I read somewhere(I forgot where) that the USSR developed nuclear torpedoes for the sole purpose of taking out super-carriers because this was the only definite way of sinking one with a single shot as it would be dangerous and more prone to failure to fire several conventional torpedoes.
To add to your defensive list, the f-14 before it was decommissioned was the only plane in the navy's arsenal which could intercept super-sonic bombers and cruise missiles before and after they got in range because of their long endurance life, high speed, and the ability to carry the aim-154(super-sonic air-to-air missile). The f/a-18 unfortunately cannot do any of these because it was designed as a multi-role fighter as the navy moved away from needing to defend against Russian bombers and cruise missiles and switched to force projection. You are dead on about the CVBG abilities, it is difficult to do(although a country did fly Tu-160s over one of them, and the Chinese snuck a diesel-electric as well)
My school has that, but for windows machines only. If your machine is detected as being mac or linux they let you on the network without it, I have a dualboot machine which I booted into ubuntu on first, got registered on the network, and they kept the IP of that machine as linux even when I booted into windows. Try that unless they have mac and linux based programs too. Also, follow the guy's advice about using an encrypted pipe, I do it with ssh through a server at my house for sensitive information, and for AIM, IRC, and various other things I use SSL when available. If all else fails I'd go the route of spoofing it like the posts above me say.
If we are doing it, and we heat the earth to the level that global warming claims we will, it will make the earth more hospitable to humans. It will flood coastal regions but it will also melt thousands of miles of arable land which is currently permafrost. A warmer earth is better for humans, the problem is how many other creatures will survive the change. That is completely ignoring the scientific fact that the earth actually does go through periods of heating and cooling and to paraphrase George Carlin it's really narcissistic of us to think that a hundred years of industrialization is destroying a balance which has maintained itself for millions of years.
They are public. During Drivers Education in my state(GA) we were shown a video of fatal car crashes involving teenagers in which their bodies were mutilated. At the end of the credits there were no legal statements saying "the family's have released the use of these photos" To show these photos in a video they would have either had to be public or get the family's release of them. You're right.
I wasn't insulting the SEALs quite the opposite, I was describing how difficult the shots were and that they are world class shooters to do what they did. My comment on "extremely close range" was in relation to shots taken on land. Although I shouldn't be surprised by your response, trolling must be entertaining for you.
On land, you have to take into account humidity, wind, drift, drop, and distance. It is extremely difficult to do on land out past 700m or so. My argument was that on a moving boat, shooting at another moving boat, that the 25-30m shots taken by the SEALs were extremely difficult as they were, and that anything past that would be an exponentially more difficult shot. As difficult as it is on land, a sniper on a boat shooting at long range would be much less useful than a machinegunner.
Because the snipers(Navy SEALs) fired from 25-30m. That is very close range(The arming range of an RPG is 50m) and they would be shot at by the pirates long before then. Also, shooing at a moving target is difficult, shooting at a moving target, on a moving boat, from a moving boat is extremely difficult. The SEALs have millions of dollars of training spent on them, I doubt a company would be willing to pay $2mil+ for a couple of snipers who can only take out targets at extremely close range.
