*sigh*.. If I could uninstall it I would have, it's a common problem (just read some forums).. I have a motorolla xoom tablet.. Yes, QuickOffice is free, I know that too, but before you can install the latest version you need to be able to remove the old one, and that's not possible when QO shipped with your tablet (at least on 'older' devices)..
But what can a CyanogenMod ROM do that the Android ROM can't ?
CyanogenMod simply offers a bunch of tweaks and little customizations not found in vanilla Android. For example you can add your own favorite apps to the lock screen slider, or apply themes that change the look of the device. It really just gives more options to personalize the phone to your liking.
GED stands for "general equivalency diploma" and is awarded when you take a test in lieu of finishing high school. It is commonly referred to as a "Good Enough Diploma." I don't have a goat but I've got a beard, does that count for anything?
Linus created the most widely used kernel on the planet. I think that affords him a good bit of leeway when it come to his "professional behavior." The fact is, he was just some faceless college student, a Joe Sixpack if you will (albeit an intelligent and talented one) who lucked into a good thing. He was never groomed to be a "business man." That doesn't make his behavior right, but anyone who doesn't like it has the right to take their ball and go home if that is what is going to make them happy at the end of the day.
I can promise you had I been in the same position as Linus, I doubt everyone would find me particularly "likable." I tend to be a bit brash and vulgar myself.
Personally I don't really care if the USPS discontinues Saturday delivery, but FTFA the agency was down $16 billion last year and this will only save them $2 billion. $14 billion is a lot to make up each year. I would like to know what they plan to do about that.
My kingdom for mod points! (For the record, I am one of those working poor and "my kingdom" encompases a half a roll of toilet paper, 2 slightly used napkins, and a slightly crumpled dollar bill; but hey, it is the thought that counts right?)
...... I think there is a nice place with men in white coats who would be more than happy to help you out with your problems, sir. Hell, maybe they'll let you play some "Shutter Island."
A baby step in the right direction is still better than what we have now. It opens up the possibility of further positive changes in the future. I just wonder how serious they will take this.
Of course, by doing this you get folks screaming "You are STEALING content! How do the content creators get paid?!?" I have no problem with websites making a buck, and I would even go back to viewing ads as long as they are not obnoxious or folowing me around the entire net. If they can't respect me enough to honor my choices I can't respect them enough to loan them my eyeballs.
The internet was a huge push forward for information sharing, but I simply can't get behind every internet user having a dossier encompassing every site they visit or every purchase they make used for god-knows-what by god-knows-who!
Frankly I like Cinnamon. It isn't quite there yet, but it is defiantly usable. MATE is a bit more complete, but after using Cinnamon for a few months it "feels" like it is outdated. YMMV
At least for my needs, LibreOffice takes care of everything I have to do. Perhaps if more people were educated about alternatives it would knock some steam out of Microsoft. I understand that enterprise would be a hard sell, but on the consumer level it is doable.
... they are doing this to prove a point about the patent landscape. If that is the case, I'd call it a success. The more people are exposed to how grossly fucked the USPTO is the more aware of how frivolous all these IP lawsuits truly are.
Ever since an automatic update of Ubuntu trashed its own partition to the point where it would not boot at all, I decided to switch to a different distribution but have not yet decided which because they all seem to have a different set of problems. Any suggestions?
Try Linux MInt. http://linuxmint.com/. It is based off of ubuntu, but I have been really happy with it so far. Hey it will only cost you a CD-R, try them all if you wish. Live CDs are a wonderful tool.
I am not pleased with the direction either Ubuntu or Gnome are going. I have been a big fan of both Ubuntu and Gnome, but I don't understand the need to slap this Tablet/Smart phone ui on their products. Unity and Gnome Shell are the reason I decided to give Linux Mint a try. Clement Lefebvre has publicly taken the stance to do whatever is necessary to keep Mint more or less the same as it is now. If they fail me I guess it is time to move to XFCE. That is the beauty of linux in the first place... I have the ability to choose!
On a side note:
Attention developers: GUI paradigms exist for a reason!
fosspatents is run by a Microsoft shill. I forgot his name but he admitted to being a shill after he was caught with his pants down
Florian Müller would be the name of the particular douche-nozzle in question.

Just root the damn thing and remove it with titanium backup or one of the countless root uninstaller apps on Google Play. Rooting a Xoom is pretty trivial, in fact here is an idiot-proof guide: http://androidcommunity.com/motorola-xoom-root-the-easy-way-with-1-click-root-and-overclock-guide-20110331/
Please pardon me because I am a total n00b

Oh, to have mod points! Honorary +1

Hey, I have a GED. Can I apply to be a Slashdot editor or am I over qualified?
Aye!
Move along, nothing to see here. https://plus.google.com/100275307499530023476/posts/aYgumDrwA1d

I distinctly remember that happening in a movie from my youth. It was even based on a book! As I recall it didn't end well for those involved.

Calling Florian Mueller a "patent expert" is like calling me a "culinary expert" because I have seen someone cook bacon once.
Now that is just mean!
Maybe linux mint could be the new newbie friendly distro with fresher packages?
+1 good sir
Your name isn't Dave, is it?
"Dave's not here, man!"
I feel old now......

Fair enough, but you have to expect a bit of animosity between Allen and Gates honestly. From what I understand those two didn't see eye to eye much.
