Bullshit. Fact is, that the problem with Apple started when they throw everything on the Performa series. After killing the Performa line and drop $ 800,000,000 of inventory. Apple started to make computers with the PPC750 (better know as G3). This "saved" Apple, because they had only $ 1,100,000,000 of cash left. They sold so much G3 computers that there was enough money to develop the iMac. The iMac is a succes like their G3bw and later G4 machines. You have to wait between 2 weeks and 2 month's for a G3 powerbook. Apple has problems with keeping up with demand. The second thing is, that they switched to build on demand. This means that if you order a Mac, it is build. No more invetory. The only exclusion is the iMac which is build for Apple by LG.
Well, you could always hack on OSX DP3 (or DP4, though I have heard it's out there, I haven't seen it yet)
Guess what. Because DR4 is so stable Apple is calling it a Beta. DR4 doesn't exist, it is now called MacOS X beta(*). Which means that with any luck MacOS X will be released within half a year (which happened with all the previous versions).
The problem here in The Netherlands is, that almost 93% of all households got cable. Some cablecompany's supply 50 channels and charge around Fl 14,95 (+/- $ 7 )a month for it. Others only give you only 25 channels and ask Fl 29,95 a month for it (around $ 13).
Photoshop is NOT an accurate test. Standard benchmark tests are much more accurate. I know for a fact that Adobe's Photoshop engineers love Macs and work very hard to optimize everything for the Mac. Why do you think Apple is always quoting Photoshop performance as a benchmark?
The core of Photoshop is the same for every platform. It is written in C. The only difference is the graphical shell. With Altivec enabled a G4 runs round around comparable Pentiums. Especially with compression/decompression. A G4 500 Mhz can compress a videostream (MPEG2) in realtime, a Pentium/// 600 can't. Second, the G4 as we know it (ppc7400) has a 5 stage pipeline. It is going to be replaced by a new version with a 7 stage pipeline (called the PPC 7450 ?). This chip will start at 650 and at the end of this year should run at 1 Ghz using only 8 watts (peak). Compared to the Pentium/// a G4 (PPC) uses 3 to 4 times less power.
Well, they invented the CD and the compactcassette. The tape they are using is not available for VHS. They are using the same which they use for DV. When other company's are going to sell the same type of videorecorder, tapes will be made by TDK and different other firms.
Apple in 1979 released DOS 3.2 soon to be followed by DOS 3.3 in 1980. This was the operatingsystem Apple used on the Apple ][(+) with the 140 K 5.25 inch drives. Just shut down our exchange server (here in the US) in the past 10 min (that's why I'm on/. not hard at work).

Only if you are using that crap from Redmond you have a problem. The only reason why mailserver are going down is the sheer number of messages. I also found out that this "virus" damaged a lot of.jpg files on our Linux-server. But this was because the infected machines replaced lot's of files....

As I understand it the only reason they still use ILS and not GPS is that the gov't messes up the GPS signal so it is not accurate enough.
That's why they use DGPS here in Europe. DGPS is GPS with a shortwave receiver. There are some shortwave transmitters in Europe which send a correction signal for GPS. The result is, that DGPS has the same precision as military GPS.. The Swiss use DGPS on one of their airports.
According to a test in the German CT a year ago a G3bw at 300 Mhz had a sustained transfer speed of 50 Mbyte/sec with Gigabit ethernet. A very expensive Intel machine with 64 bits PCI (like the Apple g3bw) could only transfer 25 Mbyte/sec sustained with OS/2. With NT and Linux the transferspeed dropped to 22 Mbyte/sec. Technically the Mac has a lot better IO-system. O yeah, the Mac was running MacOS 8.6. And with 100baseT and average Mac (G3 233) can outperform every Intel based computer. Due to the fact that every intel clone has to be backwards compatible with the first IMB XT the I/O performance really lags compared with Apple Mac's, Sun sparc's and Digital Alpha's. With the introduction of MacOS 8.6 there was a problem with different ethernet switches which couldn't keep up with the Mac. It is possible to get 100Mbit/sec sustained without a problem. Every Intel PC I know has a limit of only 86 Mbit/sec. with 100baseT. This has something to do with interrupts/sec.

I've never seen a WinCE emulator for MacOS or Linux. Why, because it is not "open".
Nobody really likes new technologies that add significant cost through royalties -- see FireWire (ahem) IEEE 1394. USB was free, which is why everyone had those controllers on their motherboards years before they had anything to plug into them.
Wrong!!! Like Firewire to add USB costs money. To be precise $ 0,25 a port. Contrary to firewire where this fee is split in 7 the fee for USB goes directly to Intel. At first you had to pay $ 1- a port for Firewire to the Firewire consortium (existing of Apple, Sony, JVC, Intel (yep, Intel is a member of it too!!!) and 3 other company's. Second, because Intel did build USB in their chipsets USB was on the market a little bit longer. The biggest problem was not the availibility of USb but the drivers and support. That's the biggest difference between Firewire and USB. Firewire is a much more mature technology and is aimed at video and data storage instead of input and output devices like mouses and printers.

I think the problem is that Intel want to set a standard. Problem is, that Intel alone (like M$) can't set a standard. To set a standard you need more than one supplier and more than one firm using this standard. Look at Firewire (IEEE 1394B) which has become a standard after two years. With the introduction of DDRam (double data Sdram) i think that Intel has a big problem. The fact is, that AMD, Apple and other company's are going for DDram instead of RAMbus. DDram has almost the same price as normal Sdram. Second, every ram manufactory can make DDram. RAMbus uses a different process, and because of patent issues is more expensive to manufactor than DDram. In the end, Intel will switch to 133 Mhz SDram and DDram.
