"The unauthorized certificates were issued by Egypt-based MCS Holdings, an intermediate certificate authority that operated under the authority of CNNIC. MCS used the certificates in a man-in-the-middle proxy, a device that intercepts secure connections by masquerading as the intended destination"
Looks like Google and CNNIC have already agreed that if CNNIC are good boys for the next few weeks they wont turn them off. Wonder how closely MCS Holdings works with the Chinese gov?
I loathe 10.10 Netbook Edition and Unity. I've lost my thumb drive with 10.4 on it, or I'd re-re-image my EEE 901. I even went back to Xandros for a while, but since it doesn't do anything, went on to 10.10 big boy edition. I miss 10.4. a lot.
We've also gotten notice that we have to show up at our nearest SIM retailer with proof that we are who we say we are and still have the SIM chip we bought. Oh, and bring a passport photo, please.
This isn't the first time the Indian gov't has gone after RIM. Last year's attempt to strong-arm Blackberry was met with a giant shrug by RIM and near-mutiny by the financial sector, who depend mightily on the crackberry.
The State Dept DOES listen to NIST, and was the first federal agency to adopt the NIST SP800 series as the primary guidance for information security issues. State also made up 100% of the panel that built the CAP certification, and built it mainly on SP 800-37.
I too will be coming back to the States in June. Currently, I have Vodafone India service, and the difference between it and US service is astonishing -- Friday after Thanksgiving, I was in the middle of the Thar desert on the back of a camel. It occurred to me to see if I could call my Mom in the States and wish her a happy Thanksgiving. Yup, four bars. No electric lights in sight, but when the sun came up I could see a cell tower on a distant mountain. That 15 minute call cost me about $2.
We have service *everywhere*, it costs six rupees per minute (1.5 cents), and data is cheap and fast. Note that this isn't a government-subsidized plan, it's Vodafone -- they're making money at this. I currently have about $20 worth of minutes on my Corby, and will probably not be able to use it all before we leave.
There are limits. Even the happiest, most optimistic IT pro gets weary of dealing with morons, asshats, and people whose sense of entitlement far exceeds their actual worth to the organization.
True enough. I have +-40k air miles this year. That number will *drastically* decrease next year if this crap keeps up. I'm tired of being treated like a criminal in the name of safety.
THIS is what I was wondering about -- just exactly what does he think he can do about a foreign web site, other than inveigh mightily against it? Demagogue....
Agreed. Forgive my paranoia, but I still wonder what... connection there might be.

Radio Shack ain't no more, one of the first temples of Geekdom has been relegated to mythdom.
Radio Shack still exists outside the US. I was in one yesterday.
Awesome.
Thanks for this link. Why isn't this a default setting?
You rule. Thanks!

What are the chances I'm getting the whole story here? Zero? Oh, carry on, then.

Funny, but a good point nonetheless. "Netbooks" were doomed from the beginning with the name. It's too general and subjective.
I'm replying to this from one of the four netbooks in my house, so I'm getting a kick....
They've put the entire town on a UPS. We need this technology here in India...
I live in India. If this is the future, I'm not interested.

Takeshi's Castle will be awesome.
Sadly, I mis-read the headline and came here expecting a photo of Miss Ubuntu February and Miss RedHat April....
Agree. It'd be interesting to know what the trigger is for EVERYBODY to hit it at once....
SurPRISE!
As an auto-obsessed American, I'd just like to say "So?"

Makes sense to me. It can't be the principal's fault that he's a moron, so the family should get counseling.
The Federal Government is HURTING for IT talent, particularly CEH/CIH type talent. They may just be trolling for new employees.
Yeah. Maybe that whole tourism thing isn't working out for them and they need some bad press to calm it down a bit...
