    the problem is that games arent complex enough for there to be real game dynamics.

    how about using apt? apt handles dependencies for you. aptitude is a simply breathtaking apt front end.

    the problem isnt the kernel, its the tool's you're using with it.

    but pc/104 is way way way too expensive for what it represents. i'll pay 1/4 as much for a non-modular non-standard interface that i have to spend a couple days fscking with the boot loader for and have to recompile for, thanks much.

    i can see the appeal in pc/104, but its really hideously overpriced considering the actual manufacturing costs. given how many jumps behind modern pc's it is, it cant be all that hard to design either.

    thankfully the new pico/micro/nano and whatnot boards look like they'll start providing alternatives. we just need better standards for low form addon cards (pci) before these rip offs finally bite the bullet they've had coming.

    "creativity" in algorithms is more often a euphimism for bad things than an effort to instill "inspiration in thought" or whatever artsy definition you want therefore.

    level designers have styles. i still drool under thoughts of some of the quake neo-gothic-industrial-xyz levels i loved fragging down. making an algorithm to emulate a style in level design is possible, albiet hard, but even the best of self training systems has difficulty generating its own styles.

    before you even talk about style generation, even being able to implement a level design alogrithm to encompass the full verticle macro to micro scope is... well, it'd be a godlike hack itself. good level's small features flow into the large features. creating an algorithm which can balance these and make levels that seem random as opposed to different layouts of the same thing, levels that have real concepts- that's... insane.

    what about power consumption of these chipsets?

    the pentium m's intel-designed support chipset is fairly heavily optimized for power consumption. with new chipsets requiring active cooling (heat being inefficient), i cant imagine they'd be able to match what matters most about the pentium m: power consumption.

    performance is not the issue.

    availability of a low power small form factor pc base has been the #1 missing element in computing for a long ass time. want something small? get an Arm/Xscale system, or get a laptop if you need real power. something like this has never happened, and is much needed.

    theres more to portable systems than laptops.

    is it just me, or is 7 megs a bit hefty for the smallest binary of a mail client intended to be small and lightweight, especially given that size being a full meg bigger than its bretheren web browser?

    what's ps2's biggest fault (besides no VGA adapter)? being INSANELY DIFFICULT to program for. standardize jerks.

    is a reasonable (continually improving) css2 compliance too much to ask for vaguely old computers (pentium 2 -- "old"... rrriigghhhtt)? its not like its that computationally expensive, but since its new technology users on old machines can just 'suck it'?

    the only other thing i must have is tabbrowser extensions, to tweak the tab bar behavior. gives you the rocker too (with long spikey hair and a sweet ass twelve string... j/k). lets you use the mouse scroll to change tab windows.

    has a number of other opera finess touches too.

    modularity is not good enough.

    software should not run features that are not asked for. "convenience" features should be disablable.

    its understandable that some apps require large amounts of computational power, no matter what. but when your talking about something thats remain virtually unchanged in the past nine years aside from css2, there is no need to up the requisit power level.
