  1. Remember, comments don't have to make sense on What is Well-Commented Code? · · Score: 2
Sometimes there's a certain... feeling... that you want to convey to the reader, that would make it so much easier to understand the code but cannot be expressed in words. I always use nonsense words, with a tone and rhythm carefully designed to put the reader in the right frame of mind.

Sure, some of your stuffy cow-orkers may challenge this practice, but it's all for a good cause.

Same goes for NES, SNES, SMS, Genesis, and PCE and I'm set for life.

Hey, doesn't the Bible feature almost all of these? (I don't specifically remember a car-jacking in the Bible, but I'm pretty sure the rest is there).

(in an old article from Gamasutra.com) :

There's a story about Dani that I know contains an element of slander, but it's too good to pass up: (I'll try to correct the slander afterwards)

At one point Dani was negotiating to do a new version of M.U.L.E. At the same time, she was also in the middle of her transformation, which, of course, included the surgery, and everyone who knew her well was secretly wondering about it. Soon afterwards, at some industry function or another, Russell Sipe, then publisher of Computer Gaming World, came up to her. "Well?" he asked. "Did you go through with it?" "No," Dani said. "I decided not to."

Russell was taken aback. "Really! Why not?"

"Well, they wanted to put guns and bombs in there, and I just didn't want that."

    "WHAT??!!!!!" said Russell, utterly flabbergasted.

Of course it was all straightened out a moment later. Russell had been thinking about the life- changing, utterly irrevocable business of losing one's genitals.

Dani, characteristically, had been thinking about game design.

  24. Port scanning on Mapping The CIA Nonclassified Network · · Score: 3, Insightful

(Is there a site/whatever where people with ideas suggest what software is missing and people with time may choose to implement them?)

What I want is a kernel module to defeat port scanning. Whenever a remote tries to connect to a port that isn't bound, the module kicks in, accepts the connections, and doesn't do anything, or echos the incoming data, or sends random data, or behaves like a web/ftp/etc server, or a combination of the above.

If most computers used this, wouldn't port scanning become impractical?
