You *do not* have to disable certain unwanted features after installation. You can choose the configuration BEFORE you install it. If you choose the one you want (and why wouldn't you?) you do not have to change anything after the installation. Sounds like a default configuration to me, but suit yourself. Sean
Great - now, if they would just help US save money by SUPPORTING Linux, we could all be happy. I like the toolbar, but it only suppports Windows with IE5. Sean
Note to moderators: before you mod something up as 'Informative', you might want to check the accuracy of said information.
There is only one version of the toolbar, but two different default configurations. You can enable or disable any of the 'features' after you install it. Sean
Been using it for 20 minutes and I like it already. Has a nice 'up' button for navigating through web site directory hierarchies. Everything else you can more or less get by using the Google site, but the toolbar makes it quicker:) Sean
BZZZZT wrong - it's a single install, just a different default configuration. You can reclaim your precious privacy after you install it by reconfiguring the toolbar. Sean
You can install the Google toolbar without the PageRank features that transmit URL's back to Google. Those sneaky bastards hid this option behind a huge freaking button that clearly states this. Sean
I was thinking about that last night when I saw a commercial for the upcoming series. The effects in the clips look great, and the costumes and sets seem to match what you see in the Dune Encyclopedia better than the David Lynch freakshow vision from the eighties. Since SciFi's Dune has a great story to build on, I'm hoping it will be better than the majority of their second-rate original movies and Showtime leftovers.
On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart showed a humorous "sample" of what the confusing ballot looked like. I don't have the original, but it was similar to this...:D

He disappointed them all by pandering to 10 year-old children..
Well, I agree with you in that, IMO, Ep1 sucked major ass, I do seem to remember being about 10 years old when the original Star Wars was released. I liked it then, and I still like it now, but I can't help wondering if I would like it today if I was 30 years old when it originally came out.
Can't say I agree with you about the CGI aliens - I think they're much better than the freaking rubber masks and muppets used in the original trilogy! Sean
I agree with you somewhat. I'm presently a "long-time newbie" with Linux. (I first started tinkering with it in 1997, but I haven't had much time to get serious with it..) The first distro I tried was Debian. (Bo, floppy install, IIRC.) I thought the installer was a piece of cake - the menu system clearly lays out all of the steps, giving a quick overview of the whole process BEFORE you start. Sure, I had to look up a couple (ok, several) things up here and there, but I never got off track and was able to boot to Linux on the first try.
Then, I met dselect. Let's not go there.
So, back to the point - no, the Debian installer is not hard, especially if you know where to find the answers along the way. But, a while back, I tried out Storm Linux and Mandrake, both with graphical installers. The installs were as easy, if not easier, than the Debian installer, and in the end I had a completely configured Gnome box and was able to actually USE Linux apps and get a feel for what I was getting into.
Granted, that's certainly not what everyone wants. Many of the/.rs want the gritty, hardcore, under-the-hood type of install that Debian offers. But, if Debian could improve that installer, maybe more newbies would have a better experience with Debian and stick with it.
Is there any information on a Mozilla feature freeze? I don't see any on the site
I think they more-or-leass addressed that in the 4th paragraph of the announcement:
Mozilla doesn't need new features, or any particular "new" or "next generation" module (there will and should be module rewrites, to be sure; there will also be new features, but I'm not about to call for any here).
There's not a DATE given for a feature freeze, but at least they're thinking about it. Sean
Anyone have *any* idea how to get a volume knob to tweak software?
The author of TerminatorX (a digital audio "scratching" application) has some details on how to convert a mouse to use it to scratch samples with a turntable. Maybe you could apply bits of this to what you want to do:-)

Perhaps someone at Apple woke up and decided that it's time to put a stop to the propagation of that candy-coated eyesore known as Aqua. ;)

Hmmm I think Fafhrd and his little grey buddy would fall into the category of (excellent) fantasy, not sci-fi!
