I've been playing VO from Europe (Denmark) for 5 years, my ping's been around 140 pretty consistently, no lag at all. Could be network issues closer to home ?
As your wifi ages, you pick up more and more freeloaders which slow down your net. When you replace your equipment, the freeloaders get booted off and have to rejoin. Hence the temporary speed increase. Duh!
It'd probably leave you open to all sorts of copyright violation charges. For instance from Playboy inc., as well as several makers of small household appliances. Or maybe that's just me..
Most likely, most of your calls are to people who simply don't care what browser, office suite, or mail program they have installed as long as it does more or less what they want it to. They consider a pc a home appliance and probably spend as much time thinking about patches, security and upgrades as they do about proper vacuum cleaner maintenance.
