We use Lync (well, formerly known as Lync, now re branded as Skype for Business) for our work IM system

The server is constantly locking up /dumping connections and just generally feels quite unreliable... It seems that it's gotten worse ever since they re branded as Skype I don't actually know if that's just my imagination.

Still at least it's not full of ads like a lot of the free IM clients like Yahoo and AIM etc... (yes I know about Pidgin, but there are such serious issues in the LibPurple library I don't know as it's a really good choice)

Go get "Never 10" freeware from GRC... it uses the officially Microsoft sanctioned means of permanently disabling the whole "Get Windows 10" stuff

    https://www.grc.com/never10.ht...

This is a good option for "mom support"

For those willing to muck about in the registry:

Open Regedit, navigate to the following key.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

Important: If that key doesn't exist, you'll need to create it.

Create a DWORD value called DisableOSUpgrade and set it to 1

Ok, so I read the article and my collegues and I use 7-zip quite a bit - so I am trying to figure out if the vulnerability was addressed in the latest release

I see the article was posted on the 11th, and 7-zip's latest builds seems to be v 16.0 which was published on 5/10 ... but looking at the 7-zip fix history:

    http://www.7-zip.org/history.t...

All I see is that "some bugs were fixed" - this does not fill me with confidence.

So, I'm just trying to decide if the may 10 update and May 11 release is enough circumstantial evidence to say "ahh v16 fixes this so just update and we're good (assuming we don't have any other tools that bake in vulnerable past 7-zip sdk builds)

My guess is that updating to 16.0 will likely fix this in my directly installed copy of 7-zip.... though I don't like going on hope and circumstantial evidence.

I never once got a multimedia message from someone who wasn't already known to me, but I figure that the slight inconvenience of deciding to download or not is worth the security benefit.

Our parent company just announced they were being bought by a bigger company and the bigger company is a Salesforce user - the sales and support people audibly CHEERED at the prospect of getting away from MS CRM and back to SalesForce... and I can see why.

If MS buys it, first it gets re-branded as MS CloudCRM or whatever then they just pillage and destroy it over the long haul and we end up back on MS CRM after they slowly ruin it over a couple years..

I know that's speculation, but DAMNIT, Salesforce is worlds better than MS CRM and I can't think they're buying to do anything other than gobble up a competitor.

So far, it's fitting a nice niche: ultra portable small notebook that can work quite well as a tablet and with enough battery life that I can walk away from my desk but have access to my business critical apps.

Visual Studio runs well on it and I can test/troubleshoot win 8 apps.

Basically, it's failing to suck... at least for what I'm using it for. That's pretty high praise from me since I have been such a hater of Win 8... this hardware actually makes it tolerable.
