oh boy i can't wait, GTA3 movie, GTA3 tv series, GTA3 lunchboxes, GTA3 cereal..
it's good to see that interactive entertainment is finally becoming mainstream in the eyes of the suits though.
then again, maybe we're just headed for a video game boom/bust just like atari had back in the 80s. arcades are dying slowly, consoles are going to have shorter and shorter lifespans with higher pricetags.
There's no doubt whatsoever that a new Leisure Suit Larry needs to be made. I think it'd be beautiful to have a whole new generation of 14 year olds talking about it secretly during study hall promising 'naked girls' and 'boobies' but in the end getting stuck with 8-bit blocky humanoid-esque bigger blocks.
Today, the McDonalds corporation agreed to finally 'open source' the recipe for making their trademark Big Mac 'Special Sauce' in return for the marketing rights to 'Tux the Penguin' (a popular open source icon) toys in their childrens meals.
Just minutes after signing this groundbreaking deal, the McDonalds CEO Jack Greenberg ran through the conference hall wearing a pair of bikini briefs apparantly made of 100$ bills, screaming something about salad dressing and kraft singles. More details at 11.
why should this surprise anyone, considering all the dotcom's that were selling absolute garbage (flooz, etc) are now out of business, leaving only the stores that sell something people may want to buy? (amazon, etc)
Today, software and hardware vendors across the world have finally released full specs on all their previously 'closed-source' products, taking blame for inherant 'bugs' or flaws.
In other news, Nintendo has signed a deal with Microsoft and Sony to port their world known games to the competitors console systems, and slashdot users deem Windows XP 'pretty okay'.
a majority of second generation (aka, worth buying) PS2 games are released on dvds. now, dvd-r's are a fairly new technology, not very cheap (unless you go the imac route:) ) and the media isn't exactly cheap.
while granted, within a year, it'll halve, for the short term, it's really not worth the time imho for a person to copy a game. i'm sure there's already a shop in singapore cranking out 300+ dubs an hour, but even my frugal self wouldn't buy from them.
i won't claim to know the first thing about imported/pirated console software. all i know is the modchip for my saturn (29.95) allowed me to buy radiant silvergun (85.00) from ebay and play it. that's good enough for me.
i did notice in the first underwater battle, the pincer attack on the squid thingy. that was an interesting feature to the battle system, but it's nothing that couldn't be done with the ATB.
i haven't even tried doing substitutions yet. it might work out for the better in that regard. ATB was never a perfect system, but i do think that it really added a sort of 'quick thinking' mentality, as in me rushing to think what the heck to do before the meter filled up.
i'm not really knocking what they've done, it's more of a lament for the feature that i've grown to love over all these years.
i bought ff8 on it's release date, and i will admit, i hated it. hated it so much i put it on a shelf to collect dust about a week later. just last month, i decided to give it another shot (after beating 6, 7 and 9 again) and really got into it. in fact, as far as battling and magic systems go, ff8 really does beat down the other, imho.
ff8 is probably the only one in the series where the battles take any actual strategy. granted, the card game and item collection can get tedious, but square throws that stuff in for the fanboys.
i will concur that ff6 is probably the best in the series, but please do explain what you didn't like about ff8 (without comparing story lines)
i'm still not quite sure why they removed the active time battle system from this one. generally speaking, the ff fighting system from 7-9 was easy enough to 'not die' in. the ATB system at least kept me on my toes.
generally speaking (and yes, i haven't gotten to a decent boss fight as of yet) it would seem that 'this monster attacks for about 310 damage, this character will need to heal this character next round' now. seems a tad bit stupified.
gamecubes are completely gone, but people are tripping over xboxes at mediaplay to spend 27$ to buy tomb raider on dvd so they can play the scene where they show the sides of her boobs in super slomo.
meanwhile i walk away with judgment night for 8$. yay for me!
people have been saying this since flash and shockwave first arrived on the scene. exempting maybe a few of the 'true' interactive sites (heavy, etc.) i really doubt this is going to happen.
then again, the fred durst generation is probably plotting our demise while i'm reading old cDc text files.
there is no good reason for a school system to be spending this kind of funding on such a worthless product, especially with other school in the nation crumbling to pieces using 15 year old textbooks.
that said, i'm wondering what this system will actually accomplish. yes, a high schooler is going to skip classes. so what? the majority of you did it in high school, you probably did it twice as much in college. if attendance issues become a major problem, most school districts are more than happy to continually call the parents houses/workplaces until the issue is resolved. the advancement of technology is not the answer to problems at school, the advancement of classes and materials is the only way students are not going to be compelled to want to leave.
yes, it is a database of public information, just like most states prison records. the question is, is there a reason to have this type on information available online? is this going to encourage parents to join the PTA? come to more school activities? i highly doubt it. i see the overprotective/law-paranoid parents cracking down harder on their children who probably don't have the same views, causing a plethora of more problems in those households. why are all these parents in such a tizzy to run online and check the stats anyway? oh wait, lack of effort == parental enthusiasm.
looking through most of the 'insightful' postings below, i noticed the phrase 'teenagers are not adults' come up a few times. well, here's the thing, they're not, but there's no reason to treat them like such. personal sidenote, my parents let me skip classes as much as i want. all they cared about were the grades i'd bring home four times a year, and i knew better than to let a system like this fuck up. it was/is my life, and i don't regret the choices i made in my academic career. i did the detention time for what i'd skipped, yet still managed to keep my GPS above a 3.2 at all times. so parents, let them make decisions for themselves, they're the ones who usually pay the price in life. i can't believe the amount of parents whos problem extend from an idiotic vicarious relationship with their child. get a grip parents, they're your children, not your peons.
so if i sit at my desk in the office, play 'illegal' mp3's really loud, but give a plug to the artist between tracks. (and maybe a mcnugget blurb.) am i a radio station?
praise once a year would be nice.

the card thing really didn't feel right. i'll agree with that. it's all M:TG syndrome, the rich kid with the great cards usually wins.
ff8 reminded me a lot of the battle system from ff6 in a lot of ways, especially with zell's limit break vs/ the blitz.
anyway, enough posts from me today.

what is your vendetta against ff8?

i saw this in highlander 2 i think. it didn't work out too good.
when i first reloaded the page, i saw the Z in Zilog and thought, 'Jesus! Zapmedia went out of business already? Now that's some /. effect.'
this has about as much of a chance as working as the original DiVX business model.
who knows, maybe they're just setting it up to fail miserably in order to get the govt. to enforce stronger anti-piracy laws.
or they're just dumb.

eh, someone was gonna do it.

what, you're not going to give props to stileproject.com and consumptionjunction.com for airing these type of things for free?
:P
down with the media! i want to see a woman masturbating a horse for free!
