I completely understand why many people aren't as quick to believe everything scientists say. Simply because scientific -fact- seems to change every few years. A few years ago scientists said there were 9 planets. Now there's 8. First there was no water on the moon, now there is. As far as science is concerned, theres no problem with updating facts and theories as new information is obtained. But most people don't work like that. As far as they're concerned, you're the same as the guy who keeps changing his story every time you ask a question.
The problem is that scientists will call you ignorant or stupid if you stop believing every word they say just because you know there's a good chance of them saying something different in a short while.
Religion on the other hand, rarely changes its story.
The article doesnt describe bricking. It barely describes real problems. It describes (rather vaguely) sluggish internet and third party controllers not working. And it never actually shows or links to actual complaints. The only real information in the article is that people who dont install the update can't connect to PSN, which is standard for these updates.
My Xbox Indie Game, You Will Die, just got accepted to the Twin Galaxies scoreboard. They're the guys who do the official tracking of videogame world records (for example, the Donkey Kong world record from the movie King of Kong was officiated by Twin Galaxies). It's the first time an Xbox Indie game has been included in their tracking system so it seems that the platform is gaining a bit more legitamacy
"Your car analogy is incomplete, and incorrect. Instead imagine I buy a Ferrari engine, and put it into a Dodge Neon. Now this is entirely legal, and none of their business. The lawyers will only get involved when I start building these in bulk, and start a company to sell my new "Ferrari compatible" cars."
That happens all the time. In fact, many 'supercars' will use BMW or Mercedes engines. The Corvette's engine is in a number of 'third party' cars. Chip Foose's production car uses a Hemi engine from Chrysler.
So is there any way other than looking at the packets on your router to know if a system is compromised? This is a question thats been asked many times before but Ive yet to see a straight answer.
Why did this get modded down? I too would like to know of a good way to check for infected computers aside from going line by line down firewall logs. And if the log scan is the only way, then what would indicate an infected pc?
This just means that ugly girls are more rare, thus their intrinsic value goes up and they become more unobtainable. Add to the fact that beautiful women are getting more and more picky. And this just adds up to more bad news for unattractive men.
The answer is easy. If you want to be a game designer, make some games. You dont need a college degree to download and start coding on any number of platforms. Everything from the PC to the Xbox360 to the iphone have free tools available and enough documentation to have you creating stuff in a couple of days. Then its up to you to keep doing it until you get good at it. But the first step is to do it.
It took a study to figure out that some people are more interested in having a family than they are in making sure the TPS reports are filed correctly?
Good work. (Add sarcastic comment about another obvious fact here)
He's suing because Craigslist is seemingly encouraging the use of its service for illegal activities by having categories that are almost exclusively used for prostitution.
Craigslist says they are doing what they can to stop the service from being used to traffic in women/men, but yet they have sections dedicated to it.
Its as if Ebay had a specific areas for weed, cocaine, and heroin.
Stop bitching. Geez. Its not like any of you were going to run down to Best Buy, lay down a 10 spot and install Win7 on your server. Did anyone actually expect that the $10 version of a $100 program was going to be the same?
I know this will be unpopular , but at $10, it would be the first choice for a lot of companies to run a Kiosk or single app station(like a POS).
We arent talking about a secret death squad hunting down Jewish people. Undercover agents are a needed part of police work and outting them puts them and thier families in danger.
I'm I seeing things or did Slashdot just publish the full name of an undercover FBI Agent? Even if its out somewhere else, it's pretty low to post it on a site that gets 100x the traffic of the source.
Wow... you guys really have nothing to do on a weekend do you? Seriously, -this- is what you're up in arms about? Go outside, see a movie, get some ice cream. Because honestly, this is really really sad.
I just hope people realize that Thugir's 'insightful' comment is the new way white supremacists justify themselves to others. 'We dont hate black people, we just like white people more...' D
You pay almost nothing to the system in regards to what you recieve. I'm guessing you're in the US or some other developed country. So your taxes not only pay for mundane stuff like law enforcement and roads that allow you to travel to almost anywhere in the country. They also pay for the military that , no matter what you think of the government, has on at least 4 occasions stopped this country from being destroyed in one way or another. Your taxes paid to educate the majority of the citizens so that eventhough we all cant compile a Linux kernal, we can read, write, and do fairly high level math. Your taxes paid for a system, while flawed, tries to keep harmful drugs and fake medicine out of a young mother's child's mouth (that would be you). Your taxes make sure that people can't put up 'Whites Only' signs anymore.
All of this may not seem like a lot to you, but trust me, it adds up to a hell of a lot more than the check you dole out every year.
So he's going to release a tool that lets people break into Gmail accounts. And unless you read slashdot, you'd have no idea to go into preferences and flip a switch.
How is this a public service? For the 99% of the world who dont read SD every day, they're pretty much screwed.
It's good I'm a nerd and will now flip the magic switch on my gmail account...but it seems like a big f-u to everyone else.

If they wanted to test the accuracy of clicking links in a webpage, wouldn't they have tested it by clicking links in a webpage?
Does ChromeOS let you switch to a different browser?

And as far as I know, no one has been sued.

I don't see anything saying this is Linux or uses any Linux-derived kernal.
