Well, thanks for calling me a softheaded idiot, but I'll reply anyway.
While I do agree with your criticism of DRM, I personally much prefer using e-reader than paper books. There are a lot of advantages such as possibility to have thousands of books with me all the time or searching them. Even some "corporate" features are convenient such as possibility to sync notes, bookmarks and current reading position between different devices.
Having said that, I do not trust Amazon or anyone and am afraid of them doing exactly what Microsoft is doing. This is why I try to buy e-books that are DRM-free and those that aren't - I break the DRM and store unprotected files on my infrastructure. There is nothing wrong with moving from paper to electronic books. There are things wrong with business models for electronic books and DRM. We should focus our criticism in my opinion and not throw away all the new toys.
Found solution:)
This guy seems to have fixed FireTray to work with Thunderbird 60 - don't ask me how, perhaps TB hasn't yet disabled classic extensions...

Not exactly Firefox, but Thunderbird is now also Quantum-based.
The only extension I'm missing is Minimize-to-tray one. Any viable alternatives for this one?
"When a solid bulk cargo liquefies, it can shift or slosh inside a ship’s hold, making the vessel less stable. A liquefied cargo can shift completely to one side of the hold. If it regains its strength and reverts to a solid state, the cargo will remain in the shifted position, causing the ship to permanently tilt or “list” in the water. The cargo can then liquefy again and shift further, increasing the angle of list.
At some point, the angle of list becomes so great that water enters the hull through the hatch covers, or the vessel is no longer stable enough to recover from the rolling motion caused by the waves. Water can also move from within the cargo to its surface as a result of liquefaction and subsequent sloshing of this free water can further impact the vessel’s stability. Unless the sloshing can be stopped, the ship is in danger of sinking."
OSM is a serious competitor to GM when it comes to hiking, cycling, etc. - in many areas OSM maps are way more detailed. And in this use case (I admit it might be a niche one) street view is not that necessary.
I was going to write exactly that. Sony has virtually cornered below-5-inches market segment. I loved my Z3 compact until its touchscreen failed after 3 years of use. I've just upgraded to XZ1 compact and keep loving the device. It's a perfect form factor for me, screen estate is enough and being just 720x1280 pixels it saves power. All phone's specs are decent, it has a great GPS, is fast, etc. I've searched high and low for another phone below 5 inches, but there are almost none. It would be bad luck if Sony got out of smartphone business:( On the other hand, XZ2 compact tries to cram 5-inch screen into previous dimensions and it makes it thiiick. So maybe they get lost, too. Which is sad. I guess I will have to buy 1 or 2 spare XZ1s;)
I used to have a bank account that was free until I turned 30. Then it started to cost an arm and leg. I wonder if I might sue them just for the "joy" of it.
I used to use an ancient Photoshop version which I've bought using mortgage money. I never upgraded it because it was too expensive for someone who makes just a few pennies a year using it. Now I pay like 10 bucks a month which I CAN afford even when seldom using Adobe's software comercially. And I keep getting updates.
But I very much would prefer the model that IntelliJ is using - if I stop paying, I get to keep a year-old version at least.
Those I can hardly imagine parting with:
- Slide eliminator ("Eliminator slajdów"), an extension that turns multi-page image galleries on news sites into single page
- FireGestures - there is an alternative using WebExtensions, but it doesn't work with right mouse button, so useless for me
- FEBE - used once in a while, but it's tough to lose this profile migration tool
- GreaseMonkey - I'm lazy so I use it less and less, but it's still useful
- HttpRequester - gotta find other tool now
- Status-4-Evar - already stopped working some time ago, I miss a classic status bar
I guess almost everyone has at least one extension that s/he got used to during all those years and that is now lost. Sucks a lot even if FF57 is overall a better browser now.
"Our Mathematical Universe: My Quest for the Ultimate Nature of Reality"
I've just finished N.K.Jemisin's "The Fifth Season" and I highly recommend whole trilogy.
Well, it isn't packed with action and there are large timeline jumps, viewpoint changes and sudden 180 degree rotations of the narrative and the story outcome the reader expects. But it all serves the purpose of painting an immense picture with surprising breadth and containing a lot of brilliant ideas. I like this kind of S-F, where ideas about future are maybe more important than character development, storytelling, etc. - but I get that some people might not. I LOVED the whole trilogy.

I can read Java lambdas all right. And most of the time, using them and stream API makes my code much more concise, expressive and, yes, readable.
I want an algorithm that'll take these artificial faces and make them look real again.
Apply your advice to yourself. Why are you so bothered about someone missing YOUR point if you're coping with the world as it is? :)
Perhaps you should ask Linus about where he took his rage control lessons. I think they'd benefit you, too.

Things don't get more secure by making them more complex
Soooo... Is HTTPS simpler than HTTP? :)

What did you switch to?
I've tried to find something better (even paid) that works on Linux and failed.

I highly recommend reading Crystal Society - or whole trilogy at that. It nicely shows some ideas about how AI would think and behave.
You mean ad-dictive.

So, tractor beams are not possible in space, because there's no sound there ;)
You do realize that it would probably involve limiting weapon access for everyone?
