This would be a GREAT time for an adventure game to be released.
There have been VERY few good graphic adventures out on the PC lately. The best one recently is the new Broken Sword, and that only came out a few months back.
PC Gamers are starved for graphic adventures at the moment.
I wonder if the game they have made so far is not actually that good (I believe the chap who wrote the original no longer works for Lucasarts..., but I might be making that up) so perhaps they are looking for more time, or a reason to cancel.
The last Monkey Island game was not that great either, so perhaps lucasarts are losing their Graphic Adventure magic... I sure hope not.
Its a play by email game.. The client does all the graphics, and lets ytou plan out your turns.moves. Once done you click a button and it sends your orders off to a central server.
Once your opponent has done their orders you get an email back that automatically opens the client and shows you the results of your orders.
Its a good system and works really well. I have never made a plan that has survived contact with the enemy.
If anyone is intersted in a game then post a reply on my journal.
In my opinion 'Stars' shoulkd have no involvement with the plot of a game, or character development. The game should be written, and then the 'talent' found to fit the role.
Leave the game design to those who design games well, and leave the acting to those who act well.
Whats next? Game developers telling movie producers to include a car chase in their movie, as they have already written a great driving section for the spin-off game?
Despite my lack of gaming time there is still one game I constantly play.
It definatly falls into the category of Pick- Up-N-Play.
Its LaserSquadNemesis (www.lasersquadnemesis.com). Its a Play By Email game so when you fancy a game you just load up the latest turn from your email, do your turn and send it off. The game runs in segments of 10 seconds, so you plot your troops movement and actions for ten seconds worth of time, th3en fire off your orders to the main server. Its all very slick and works very well for something to hop into and out of.
B est of all, since its Play by email , your opponents never expect an immediate response. Indeed, sometimes I have not played a particular game for 2 weeks, then sent the following turn off when I get the spare time.
I recommend all time-challenged gamers give it a try.
If anyone wants to try it out with me then post on my Journal entry and I'll contact you. I will need a valid email address from you though
What they mean is that any decent AI would treat the death of a colleage via an arrow through the head to be slightly more than suspicious.
Guard 1:- Hey wheres Bob? Guard 2:- He's lying on the floor over there with an arrow through his head. Guard 1:- How did that happen then? Guard 2:- Not really sure. There was a whoooshing noise, then he keeled over. Guard 1:- Think we should look around? Guard 2:- Nah, I'm not quite suspicious enough. I'll wait until you get taken out, then I'll look around a bit
As much as I hate to recommend the UK2.net servers, they do have a few servers flagged as Beginners servers that automatically kick and ban players who do too well.
However, once you become a little better I'd move to a different server as the UK2 ones tend to have too many annoying voiceovers and in game branding. Its ok while you are learning but you will tire of it after a while.
For fun games you could try the AXIA servers, one for CS 1.5 and 1.6 . www.axia.org.uk or #axia on quakenet irc for more info.
Anyone know where I can get my digital mitts on some of these pictures (especially the linked Bullet-Through-Apple one) large enough to use as a desktop background?
My completely uninformed opinion is that these accidents occur due to drivers not knowing how to handle the 'bouts. T he drivers are so used to lights controlling their path that the lack of lights on a roundabout gives them the impression they can drive right onto it (right into the path of that oncoming vehicle....)
Saying that, there is a roundabout near me that also has traffic lights on it that controls the flow onto it (which is good) and also around it (which is bad) . This is a right nightmare in rush-hour.
From my addled memory I think this is from one National Lampoons Vacation (or something like that)
I seem to remember this occuring when they were in France, going round and round the large roundabout by the Arc de Triomphe.
This occured as traffic laws in France dictate that traffic entering the roundabout has priority over traffic already on the roundabout, making it very tricky to get off the darn things. Its the reverse in England where once you are on the roundabout you have right-of-way and traffic trying to get on has to let you pass.
Personally I think roundabouts help traffic flow. Tehre are some nasty crossroads on my way to work whereby the slightest amount of traffic going along the main road causes the intersecting branches to clog up with traffic. A roundabout here would help things immensly (and cut my journey time in half)
Ah, You Dont Know Jack was a classic. The British version of couse, voiced by Paul Kaye. The only problem with it was the lack of questions. After playing it non-sstop all night (yes, this DID happen) you started to get to know the answers in advance.
I tried playing the American version, mainly because you could expand it with downloadable modules, but due to all the cultural references I didnt find it as funny. I'd imagine the same would go for Americans playing the UK version.
One trick I have seen is to use a couple of peices of java script to write out the html for a mailto link. If you separate the mailto command across 2 or 3 java sections spammers will nto eb able to use the raw html code to drag out yur email, but once rendered in a browser it creates a perfectly clickable mailto link.
I cant remember the java commands offhand, but found the trick on one of these Web Tips websites.
I guess it would be ok with the/. crowd if they used Open Source poison.....
I just dont see what they are doing wrong in this case. They invented something that people want to use, so people should expect to be charged for doing so.
How can valve place the game on your PC without at least a statement if intent from you to buy it?
They should not use up space on peoples harddrives just on th eoff-chance that they decide to buy it.
Or am I misunderstanding...?

Never presume anything.
It just makes a Pres out of U and Me.

For me its mainly a lack of time.
When I was younger I had oodles of free time so I was able to lose days playing the latest games.
Now I dont have the time to spare what with working, running a house, girlfriend... All the things you tend to aquire as you get older.
I still love games, but find myself trying to spend time finishing th eones I have rather than buying new games.
Nah, its an 80's film so you'll probably drive through a sheet of glass thats being carried across the street for no apparent reason.

I loved the first 2 Thief games on the PC. They inspired the current generation of Sneak-em-ups.
I am waiting for the demo!

This amounts to Price Fixing, which I thought was illegal in the UK and vehemently denied by all the large corporations.....

I've never understood the point of games that try to titillate.
In this internet age it would be far quicker to find a far more realistic image by just firing up your browser of choice.
Ah, You Dont Know Jack was a classic. The British version of couse, voiced by Paul Kaye. The only problem with it was the lack of questions. After playing it non-sstop all night (yes, this DID happen) you started to get to know the answers in advance.

At least its a good excuse when you get caught having Star Wars: Galaxies installed on your office PC....
There is no way I would decypher that for anything other than a complete emergency.
This kind of technique just makes it a PITA to mail you, for friends and foes alike.

There are also a lot of people who say "It's 25 minutes past 10", but they dont write the time as 25:10
VU-asm programmers are hard to come by and the software they produce is impossible to maintain
Why is the code they produce so hard to maintain? Is there something particular about the languege used that leads to sloppy code?
You cant save your high-scores on the Ps2 Version!!?!
Thats insane.
How exactly did FADE work anyway?
I know it degrades the game, but in what way? Lower quality graphics? Artificially reduced framerate?
How gradual was the process?
I've frequently seen Microsoft poison villagers.
