What gets me is that the writer is trying to tell us we need shorter, lower quality games which are more simple, just because *he* doesn't have time to play games like he used to. I'm not sure why we should suffer because he's shifted lower than the lowest common denominator, though.
No, he is saying that there should be an OPTION. He doesnt want games to be soley tailored to gamers like him (and me) but there should be an option available.
Everyone else just doesnt take that option, and they are not affected.
Do you remember playing Monkey Island 2? that game had an option right at the beginning where you could choose to play Monkey Lite which made puzzles easier and generally shortened the game. It didnt affect people who wanted to play the full thing in the slightest, so I dont see why it would cause a problem at all.
I have HOMM4, and it took me about 5 hours to do the very first level. The very first. Its a great game but takes far too long.
I have a few games I dip into for a brief hit, mainly online shooters like Unreal Tournament 2004. However, that kind of game seems to the the polar opposite of the kind you like.
One game I play frequently that fits in with this kind of lifestyle is Laser Squad Nemesis, its wquick, yet still had depth. (Check my sig for a link)
Other than LSN and UT I dont feel I get the most out of games that I buy, purely because I dont have the time required to immerse myself in them while still doing all the things that a re demanded of me by my adult life.
If games really influence people, then all the kids who grew up playing Pacman would today be standin agound in darkened rooms, listening to repetative electronic music and eating lots of pills.
Oh my god, I cant believe The Sims is not on their list.
I honestly dont understand the fascination that this game has for some people. As far as I can tell you have to make sure your little sim gets up for work on time in the morning, has something to eat, goes to the loo and then gets to bed.
Thats far too much like my own life. I play games to escape the mundane, not to immerse myself in it. The only time I have ever enjoyed the Sims is when a friend added a cheat to get loads of money and then designed the house however he liked.
There should definately be a mechanism in place to get details on the mails there were blocked. Subject and Sender. Whether thats via a Daily Digest, or a web based application doesnt matter. If someone is going to delete mail on my behalf I should at least be able to say "Ooooh, I wanted that one. Dont delete it in future"
I would post more but my popup stopper keeps throwing up popups;)
So far, not a single complaint of any email being deleted
How do they know they are missing any emails to complain about it?
I had a recent argument with my email provider. They introduced blacklist filtering to eliminate the worst of their spam. In the process it also blacklisted some legitimate email. (The mails in question were Topic Reply notifications from a message board)
I dont have a problem with filtering, as long as there is a way to review undelivered mails
In my case I only realsied something was wrong when the mails I regularly recieved stopped being delivered. I went right up the admin ladder of the message board as I assumed the problem was at their end (after all, my mail provider was supposed to tell me about any changes they make to my mail settings)
My mail provider eventually found the problem and amended the blacklist settings and all was fine. However, without them providing me with a method of finding out if any of my mail is being blocked I have no way of knowing if I am missing any further legitimate mails. Even something as simple as a notification that they blocked a mail, with the senders email address included would be enough.
Spam filtering either needs to be done Client Side, as who better to judge which of my email is spam than me, or Server Side with a mechanism to view and check undelivered emails. Programs like K9 (http://keir.net/k9.html) work very well and are easily trainable. Mine runs at 99.5 % accuracy.
If servers HAVE to delete mail that is intended for me then it should be at the strictest possible setting.
Btw, where can one find a copy of Leisure Suit Larry:Enhanced;)?
More to the point, why would you want to? What are the 'enhancements?' I thought LSL was dreadful. Not for the subject matter, but the implementation. Mixing graphic adventure style character movement with Text adventure style controls? Blech...
Personally I think MI2 was the best in the series. I enjoyed MI3 a great deal, I think the voice acting was spot on. I like all the barber songs and the "Theres a Monkey In My Pocket" song:)
However, I found myself getting rather bored with MI4. I just dont think it made the transition to 3D very well. The voice acting was just as good but it just looked....wrong. I dont think there were any sequences that gained anything from being in 3D. At least, none that I saw as I gave up quite early on.
I also found the 3D view to be very fiddly. With the 2D style point and clickers its quite easy to utilise all the items on screen without too much effort. However, with 3d you have to move your character to the item, try an intereaction. Move your character back to another item, try something else. It was SO much easier just using the mouse. Its akin to the very early Sierra adventiures whereby you had to move your character about on the screen, and then type in Text Adventure style commands to achieve anything. Theyb would fail if you were a little too far away from the item in question.
I want to like MI4, I really do, but it just frustrates me far too much to play through.
Having said al that, Grim Fandango had a very similar engine yet I had no problem with that. I wonder why that should be?
I dont know about other P2P networks, but Emule/Donkey will detect your altered version as a completely different file, and so will not make it available to those downloading the original.
It will see that the filehas h is different.
However, if they happen to think yours is the original file from a search (rather than a confirmed ed2k link from the main website) then there is nothing stopping them from becoming infected.
Laser squad nemesis is fantastic. Check the link in my sig for more informtion and a link to a video of LSN in action.
As a gamer who doesnt get a great deal of time to game anymore I find it fits in with my free time perfectly.
Beware though, it can be fiendishly difficult, especially playing people in the upper echelons of the league. (I've always wanted to use the word echelons...)
The best bit though is that you play against a real live human.
If anyone wants to get going with a free game against me then check out my sig.

Doesnt your sig say you ignore stories by Michael?

Its seriously dull.....
If you liked the X-Com games, then check out the link in my Sig.
You'll love it!

Yes, that was my intent.

I believe my bosses plan was to keep Exchange behind the firewall, but route the incoming/outgoing SMTP to it through our Cisco firewall.
I must admit that the details are a little fuzzy at this stage...
Can anyone suggest the best way of filtering spam received into a mail server running Exchange 2003?

Right, everyone go to http://*.*.*.* Lets slashdot the planet!!!

I was never able to compelte this game.... I managed to blow the house up a few times though.
Was it possible to complete it regardless of which initial characters you selected?

I'd never receive any email from my friends.....
In fact, most of my own messages would not get through either.
They already have access to all those emails desperately trying to give away $3.5M . They have all the funding they'll ever need....
Another great spam filter:- K9
http://keir.net/k9.html
Bayes based and totally free. Its the bees knees.
I've said it before and I'll say it again but there is a game out there that is ideal for those 10 minute gaming opportunities.
The link to the signup page is in my sig.
