  12. Re:A sword that cuts both ways on Should You Trust MAPS? · · Score: 1

I'm not sure if MAPS is like SPEWS, but in the case of the latter, their intent is to block an entire ISP hitting innocent customers on purpose. The idea is that this innocent guy is not innocent at all, and in fact he is helping finance an unethical company.

If your ISP isnt responding to abuse complaints and helping to get rid of these spammers, then they are considered guity of providing a safe haven. An extension of that is that all of the innocent customers are no better, since they are funding this safe haven.

I'm not sure if I entirely agree with this, but it sure makes life easier for the list maintainers :)

I don't know many online resources, so I can comment on another approach.

My advice is to enroll in a classical guitar night class at a city college. You will learn good fundamentals for whatever style music you like to play, plus all the classical guitar songs are impressive to play--and you will pick up note reading in the process. I learned around 10 or so warm up excercises that you can use for the rest of your life to speed up finger strength and agility.

Most guitar teachers can also point you to hourly rate tutors. Just show up the first day and talk to the teacher after class and ask for a referral if you don't want the class doesn't fit your schedule.

  20. are you causing your own stress? on How Do You Deal w/ User Induced Stress? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Here is my outlook, let me know your thoughts...

If you're at work for X hours, does it really matter how you're spending your time? Just kill your ego a bit and don't worry about it. You are being paid for your time, so if people want to waste it, then complain to management the same as you would if they sit there reading a magazine all day instead of working.

If the problem is keeping track of your TODO list, then you just need to get organized. What would you do if you were a software developer and someone kept giving you new bug reports? You'd log them in a list sorted by priority. Can you do the same here?

If this "stress" is caused be being forced to work more than the original alloted hours, then that should be a different Ask Slashdot question: "What should I do when I get asked to work overtime when i'm not getting paid?"
