  1. Segments on Debian And The Rise of Linux · · Score: 3, Insightful

    IHMO I really feel that Debian is aimed at the server and techincal user market and not the sort of people who run windows. Debian is very very powerful but not that intuative. For example to setup networking you have to /etc/network/interfaces. In RH you click on the pretty networking panel.

    However as mentioned in that article apt-get is a saviour. Security problem on RH. Download RPM, check deps, install. Fix broken config

    Debian: apt-get update && apt-get install

    "But what's it like? Surprisingly, it looks and feels a lot like Windows."

    To appeal to the common man they Linux has to be something there are already aware of and as much as I hate to say it copying the Windows interface, or at least a similar style is needed.

    Personally I use just sawfish with terminals as it works for me but for 99% of everyone else they need a familiar and intative interface

  6. Sync on Build a Multi-Output MP3 Server? · · Score: 1

    One thing you have to be careful of (and this is expierence) is that if you want to stream the same content to all the rooms you need to make sure that everything is within about 25ms sync of each other (if not less) otherwise you will hear echos if not just total noise.

    This is one of the problems with MP3 streaming as a normal client will buffer 3-4 seconds before playing which can lead to the loss of sync. As such the sound card is a good idea...

    However as its listening in promiscous mode it detects other packets from other trojans that have the network its on as the spoof address and the collects those results.

This is why I just went back to normal books. If the sun is to bright, put on some sunglasses. If to dark, turn on the light or use a torch.
