This is all well and good but what about if there is a bug in the actual trust part of the kernel or simple user error gives people more access than they should have? You can't protect against human stupidity
I've found FreeBsd to be a nice stable platform which I run my business on. No dowtime due to kernels oops. It just gets up and runs and runs and runs...
Yeah ok this is a pimp but FreeBSD just works and the package management is only second to debian (which I think is being ported)
The UN actuall postivly encourage it. Via Netaid the UN setup a group of voulenteers who provide OSS based advice on people out in the field. Its worth looking over there just to see what you can offer
It always intresting to see how things work. Nice little thing to add to this is the way Nintendo do copy protection on their disks (although not scritly on topic). Instead of relying on heavy software encryption they went for a nice simple solution. They spin the CD-Rom the wrong way. As such you need special burners if you want to copy it.
Its just not going to be the same without Face from the A-Team. I always wanted to see the cross over where the Cylons captured Face + The Rest of the A-Team and then out of a the pieces of their jail cell they created a tank/car, resuce everyone, ended the war and no-one actually got killed:)
Well of course its obvious but you have to wondered how long it took them to think it up? Surely that must of taken some time. I can just imagine the meeting now
Boss: Right we are out of money. What can we do? Staff: Improve our product, market it and try to attract new business? Staff: Lay off people? Boss: Nah we will just sue big companies who will either give us cash or buy us out. Anyone for a quick trip to Barbados?

What the coporate world is looking for is something that is cheaper and easier to run than exchange but will work with all the existing installed software and addons. Some things are handy like having email to fax on exchage. Send an email and it becomes a fax.
Its when this is possible on a non-windows platform that people will look
I play GTA Vice City but don't want to run around stealing cars. The basic point is that if the people weren't playing computer games they might have some other outlet for their tendancies. I would think that anyone who would go on a killing spree would find input from other parts not just ocmputer games
In a previous job I dealt with a piece of Platform Software called LSF (Load Sharing Facility). Now I have to say it was a very complicated bit of software which to me seem to be a mixture of shell scripts, binarys and NFS/SMB mounts. After actually doing the training courses my belief didn't change and I regularly found bugs in it.
Now this might of just been the SGI version but overall taking this as a particular example the quality of the code was terrible and 1/2 had undocument features
How can Microsoft Force a fix on this on older X-Boxes? Surely they can't force a remote upgrade on the X-Boxes. As such if I now want to Run Linux I just have to go an buy an old X-Box
They can go to all this effort or just goto the library and then get a copy for free and read it in the comfort of their own home or am I missing something?
Hopefully fixes the issues where if I start Galeon X crashes out. Least there is now official support for 5.x so that I won't have to patch the kernel again
I thought about starting to put holes in walls etc but taking that my walls are about 2 foot thick I decided to just go wireless. 11Mb all round the house and into the garden and not one hole drilled. OK not as fast as wired but so much neater and easier

Ah but you have to remeber that all the 3D rendering on the O2 is done in software. Want faster graphics? Upgrade to the 250Mhz R10K

Not automatic but the best way might be similar to the following as it should avoid dependancies
/dist/disk[1234]. You can also script this. Look on http://techpubs.sgi.com but basically
/dist/disk1 -f /dist/disk2 -f /dist/disk3 -f /dist/disk4
download all the iso images and save them locally to say
inst -f
inst upgrade
conf (there shouldn't be any conflicts as you are updating everything)
go
come back in 10 minutes

How about some sort of standard cartridge which then has an interface into some sort of external CD-ROM which can then play optical media
