  1. Re:Edison is like Ogg Vorbis on Media Monopoly: Thomas Edison to Hillary Rosen · · Score: 1

Yeah, but his electricity distribution system was shit. It was backed by everyone(who could afford it) at the time, and was well accepted. One could say he had a monopoly on the system, but that was only because there was nobody competing against him. Then came Tesla, with his superior system. Look where that got us. Edison is full of shit.

Makes me wonder why medical care costs so much.

Damn near everything used in a hospital has to be certified to be used for medical purposes. People's lives are at stake, and you have to be sure that your device operates within tolerances, doesn't crash, doesn't electrocute people, etc. It costs money to think of every possible problem and design a device around that. Also, as other people have said, the people that run these things are some of the most educated people in the world. Try to start a hospital with your $4 device and let me know how it goes.

I hate wearing the same damn stuff that everyone else does. I'm not trying to stand out or anything, it just pisses me off how mass produced everything is. I just want my own thing! Same reason why I build my own computers. Same reason I'm trying to make my own watercooling system instead of buying a kit(I'm also poor, though).

I'm sure I've seen those wireless earbud things for hearing aids. The electronics are worn somewhere on the body, and then it is connected to a metal necklace that "transmits" the sound to the tiny little earpieces so that you don't have to have huge things in your ears. I haven't heard anything about these lately, but I'm sure they exist somewhere.

Hey dumbass, I'm not the person originally posting how the other movies "were better" than Titanic.

I thought you were dumb and then you went and kept talking and proved it. Those two statements have nothing to do with each other. One could say that one movie is better than the others without saying or even thinking that it is the only answer.

Well your other points really did not contribute any to the discussion so I will not even reply to them.

Oh bullshit. Yes, the movie list is a fact. You can look it up anywhere and it's the same. However, you can look anywhere and you will get different answers for which movie was best. That is an opinion. No one answer is correct and you are an inconsiderate dumbshit if you keep thinking one is.

Box office sales should not mean anything for award shows. Just because a lot of people saw it does not mean it is a good movie and deserves an award(or several). Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.

Unless someone tells you something is a fact and can provide evidence, or it is common knowledge, you should assume whatever the person is saying is opinion(especially with such an opinionated crowd as slashdot). Therefore, the 'I feel' would be superfluous.

Back ontopic, Titanic was full of dog shit and cat hair and should have never even been nominated.

Here at Truman State they throttle all p2p ports down to about 10% of the total bandwidth(not sure of the total though). There are so many damn many people using it thought that any one person only gets about .5K/sec. I don't mind though. Everything else is fast.

There's quite a bit of good stuff on the internal network though, and thanks to ShareScan, it's easy to get. Also, learn to use IRC. At least at my school, the standard IRC ports aren't blocked or throttled, so you can get everything you need at great speeds, if you know what you are doing.
