Why would you need to run more wires to the cube for 3 machines? I've four, and they all hang nicely off of a Netgear hub.

Maybe if all 3 were on different networks.....

I think wireless is more for laptops than anything else, as you have to have a power line for the desktops anyway, and they don't move much.

Do you know any way for iTunes to automagically recognize filenames and create ID3 tags from them?

    All my MP3s are either Artist - Song.mp3 or Composer - Performer - Piece.mp3.

A solution that is simple and works under windows or linux would be nice...

  5. Re:Why reboot after patching? on Patching Paranoia - How Fast Do You Patch? · · Score: 1

One potential issue mentioned above is that Windows doesn't allow overwriting a file that is in use, which Linux does. When the file is closed and reopened (restart service) it will be the new file.

The easiest way to overwrite system files that are always in use is to do it before the system is fully loaded, which requires a reboot. This copy may not be done if you just stop and start the service.

Some services can be stopped completely, and then the files overwritten, but I would be uncertain at best of the success of this process (i.e., have a tool that can test the vulnerability and see if it is gone).

Of course, I have a pretty new MSI ULTRA board, so maybe that has something to do with it.

(I really want to go to Gentoo, but it works, so why fiddle.)
