One last thing, I have no doubt that one reason that fewer Americans watched was because a Canadian team was in the finals. Everybody I talked to about the games were in two camps. The ones cheering on Anaheim weren't watching the games and just hated Canada. The ones watching each game intently were cheering for Ottawa. Again, WTF.... I watched every game I could. Damn NHL started games while I was at work. And I loved it that the Ducks beat the crap out of that weak arsed Ottawa team. It was like they should not even have been there. The Detroit series was much more compelling.

By the kind of argument you (and, to be fair, many others in this discussion) make, we should just ignore all laws and societal conventions, and be mercenary about doing anything that advances our personal interests. If you are disadvantaged when someone else does this, well, you should have defended yourself better, taken out more insurance, hidden away more, not gone out, paid in cash, not walked past the front of the adult movie store and coincidentally looked over your shoulder just when the photo was taken, not bought three items on the same day which in combination coincidentally trigger a terrorist threat warning...

So, where do we draw the line?

The problem is that we as a society have made "shame" and "shunning" irrelevant. Google here has crossed the line. If this was just a neighbor in a small town doing this, the rest of the people could make them answer for this stupidity. Now we got this, "supposedly enlightened" company being a dumbass. Our options are limited.

So here is the 64,000 question. Which one of you "geniuses" thought this was cool? Put your damn street and windows up for us.

Exactly two things have changed today, in the context of privacy, from a few years ago: technology has improved to make it much easier to spy on people and data mine info about them; and people (actually, mainly businesses and governments) have become almost militant in their desire to capture as much information as possible about everyone, all the time. This is a very dangerous combination, which if left unchecked will inevitably lead to the erosion and ultimately the destruction of our basic quality of life. Just because we can do something, that really doesn't mean we should.

again.. thanks... I cannot believe how pissed this makes me feel. google, you are a bunch of asses.

Nope. pushing 40. Just tired of morons who are way too willing to give up rights to tin-pot dictators. I'm not certain that any rights where lost. Not enough info. and too many unknowns.

    Why not?

Well, mostly because of how public schools are funded. Since most public schools get federal funding, they are covered by federal laws about a student's right to an education. and what about the rights of the other students in the classroom who want to learn but are denied that by this type of behavior. People always forget about the rest of the class.

    So he was an accessory.

That wasn't shown to any certitude, according to the article (and the quote from the judge). True...

The main thing that bothers me is that is seems that this is the only kid who got in trouble. If that was my son, he'd have hell to pay. One of the most important things a parent needs to teach their offspring is respect. And that video shows a complete lack of it.

Well, the "kid" was 18, so it's possible he wasn't even living at home and you'd have had shit-all to say about it. Somehow I doubt that. But really, if my kid did not learn respect by 18, then I have failed. I would say that these kids parents failed in that task. My son who is 15, is a pretty good kid even with the normal puberty angst.

And as I said, the kid in the video wasn't the kid in court, so the video didn't show a lack of respect by the kid who was suspended. Unless you count linking to a video you think is funny shows disrespect. If he thought it was funny, then yes, that itself is a lack of respect.

Not to mention, from the video it didn't appear that the teacher did much to earn any respect. But her comment sure did. She was upset because she did not want all the students to be tarred with this action because most student, in her opinion, were good kids.

Holy Crap! Your true believer. I've meet a few of you but it aways stuns me when I encounter one in the wild. You've actually bought into that Jimi was god and Dylan can sing hook, line, and sinker. Well, being a true believer there is nothing I can say to change your mind.

Are you on crack? Where did I write that Dylan can sing? He is one of the best song writers period. Why do you think so many other bands cover his stuff? Oh, they must suck too, right?

And Jimi was a trailblazer. And in that he deserves must respect.

In a way that is really sad because you'll never be able to appreciate true artists like Joe Satriani and BB King. Because to really appreciate them you will realize how sad Jimi's music is compared to them. What makes them great is they don't need cheap tricks like playing a guitar with their ass. They just simply are. You have not listened to much of Jimi have you? Oh and BTW, Riding with the King is one of my favorite CDs right now. BB and Clapton kick arse together. See what happens when you make assumptions? You will be wrong most of the time.

You know many people say that being a true believer in something is the first step on the road to hell. It closes your mind to better things in the world around you. You might want to get some help for that. There are drugs out there that can do wonders things for mental disorders such as what you have. You might not be to far gone to get help. Ahh yes... I should have known.... You ain't nothin' but a troll.... damn

oh and the only thing on this planet that I truly believe in is family, friends, beer, and wine... everything else will fall into place.

Jimi, as you put him, was a mediocre guitar player at best. He was revolutionary for his time. He did things other did not. Those are facts. Your view is just an opinion.

If he just died yesterday of what he died of we would be laughing at him for his future Darwin award. I've already given you a list of players he can't hold a candle too. This discussion is over, I'm right and you're wrong. Period. Are you sure you are not 14? OK, maybe 15?

PS Dylan singing sound slightly better than a '57 Chevy stripping it's gears. Again, Dylan's main talent is in song writing. I noticed you did not address it. OK.. I admit you don't sound like you are 14, more like a bitter old man who wanted to be a star, but had no talent and now whines about Jimi and Bob because you think you are better.

First, the public school district doesn't have a right to suspend a student for as long as they want. Why not?

Second, according to the article, the suspended student may not have been involved in the filming at all. He's not the student seen making 'rabbit ears' behind the teacher, and you can't know if he was the student running the camera.

He was targeted by the school board because of a link to the video on his myspace page. So he was an accessory. The main thing that bothers me is that is seems that this is the only kid who got in trouble. If that was my son, he'd have hell to pay. I'm not even going to discuss Bob Dylan. Anyone who thinks Dylan has any talent what so ever option is not even worth considering. In fact I have no reason why I'm even responding to you. Again, this proves you are a complete musical n00b. Dylan's song writing and lyrics are among the best. Is he a great performer, many like him, but to me he is not the best. It is the song itself that is so great. I bet you don't even listen to lyrics do you.
