I dunno about other people who have criticized the series (and FF7 in particular), but for me, not really. It's like Star Trek and Star Wars. Release something that SUCKs (Voyager, Phantom Menace...they both only get worse with time);or in the case of FF7, didn't really suck, but was a big disappointement; and the old fans may gripe about it for a while, try and stick with it, but we'll just give up and move on.
I've given up. I've moved on.
I'll be off playing Team Fortress 2 or something by then and won't give it another thought.
As it is, it's a tossup whether I prefer speaking with a machine or a customer service rep in India. Won't take much for a machine to surpass most of them in English speech recognition. (Alright, to be fair, there are some indians I've gotten on the phone who have been at LEAST as good as the typical US based rep. But that's a minority.) Anything to advance the technology.
And I'll bet someone who has the extended warranty is finding out about a recall sooner than say, someone who bought a Ford used at a Honda dealership.
"They are a familiar but puzzling force in the workplace, perpetually functioning in overdrive to meet a punishing schedule or a demanding boss. To colleagues, these men and women may seem simply like workaholics. But psychologists who study them call them resilient, or hardy,"
Resilience will become a new buzzword. It will become an excuse to have fewer employees with more work. This works out even better if you aren't paying for their health insurance, so watch for that to go away even more than it has been.
Also, you don't really save THAT much money. (and all of it can be eaten up by shipping if you're buying parts from multiple vendors) The only way you're going to be saving enough to make it look like a winning proposition is if you're comparing it to a vendor like Alienware, who charge a premium for at least one of two things...exotic configurations hardly anyone uses; or the name on the box.
Go with a beige-box type retailer (who usually have boxes other than beige these days) and you'll be paying like 100 bucks over the cost of parts. More if you're not paying the microsoft tax, of course.
Honestly, for the trouble it saves, it's worth it.
I asked a group of kids (maybe 10 to 12 years old) once what they thought of jar jar binks. "Jar Jar's tight!" one of them said. They pretty consistently liked Jar Jar.
I'm not sure. I can't say whether I would have. At age 6 or so I mean. 10, almost certainly not. 12 definitely not.
I do know, I could have dealt with him if he DIDNT SPEAK ENGLISH.
Populist? Are you suggesting that science fiction excludes populism? Or did you just pick the wrong word? (If you didn't, I think you're at least right in calling Star Wars populist.)
$54/month, just a little above minimum liability. (don't recall offhand how much). Monterey, CA. At the time I was 25. I was paying 43/mo for just my 89 colt (which I started paying when I was 24).
This box can't take into account what kind of traffic is around you, can it? I mean, there's a difference between doing 80 miles an hour down and empty highway and doing 80 miles an hour on an urban freeway at rush hour.
What will it make of me doing donuts in an empty parking lot (if there's snow on it, almost nothing bad can happen)? Is it sophisticated enough to know that's what I'm doing?
Would it be able to tell if I was in the habit of getting a little too close to the edge of the road on a dangerous turn, or if I overreacted to being snow-blinded? (Two possible causes of my brother totalling my mom's Forester.)
Does it go on speed and turns, or does it record G forces as well? (Which would tell you whether the car was likely to roll over)
Depending on the data the system collects, there are plenty of things which are high risk which could be interpereted as low risk and vice versa.
Any discussion of a lack of women at the top should also include discussion of a lack of women at the bottom.
In a lot of endeavors, (objective ones, even) women tend to perform towards the middle of the pack, with most of the winners and most of the losers being men.
It's not THAT stark a difference in the case above. But it's significant. There ARE a lot of women who achieve, but there are MORE men who do. In just about everything measure of success and failure, men dominate the high end of the scale. I think the dominance of men in power and in prison is more likely a symptom than a cause. (though it could be both.)
Never mind how women tend to avoid technical fields in droves. Maybe Ms. Hockfield could be a step towards changing that.
In my computer science classes in college, there were two sections. 80 students. Of those, 3 were female. And two of them were over 40. (One was the mother of a friend of mine, she was in most of my classes, actually).
That one was a real stretch, though, and bullshit. That was like, someone looking at the font and trying to come up with a string that would create the visual message.
Where you get to do an abreviated version of "America's Army"'s basic training, then spend the entire game sitting on your virtual ass pushing paper or listening to static.
How will they get your attention, though? You aren't seeing their fliers or anything. About the only way you're likely to find non-RIAA music you'll like without having to devote all your leisure time to it (which is something a lot of music elitists seem to think everyone should do) is via browsing file-sharing users who have files you were actually looking for.

No, they're just telling those people SOONER.

The Adventures of Jar Jar Binks - Jar Jar Binks travels the galaxy fighting crime with his dumb luck.
Ewok Rock - a musical show, like "Cop Rock"
The theme song during the credits would be some variation on "Yubba Nubba Cubba Chubba."
Tatooine Idol - Jabba the Hutt hosts a talent search for who will be the next band at Jabba's Palace.
Young Anakin Skywalker Chronicles - Starring Jake Lloyd.
Young Luke Skywalker Chronicles - Starring Jake Lloyd.
Lucasfilm Investigates: Unsolved Mysteries - Premier episode: Did Greedo REALLY shoot first?
Boba Fett: Bounty Hunter - Boba Fett bounty hunts for Jabba Hutt to finance his 'Vette.
And so on.

Whoohoo!
Maybe this explains the CHP Camaros I saw.
Unfortunately it also explains the Malibus and Impalas (FWD crap!).
Oh boy...even more unlistenable cookie-cutter crap. Thanks Microsoft.
I really like your idea of a mini console w/ smart card based games. If they did that and did not lock it down too hard it would be a hacking dream!
You mean like the GP32?
Nichols: He did give us eternal youth.
Koenig: 24 hour laundromat.
Takei: A full assortment of rum both spiced and regular.
Nimoy: Truly, it was a paradise.
Fry: And all you had to put up with was one really annoying Star Trek fan.
[The heads look worried.]
Shatner: Let's get the hell outta here!
Except here it will be THOUSANDS of them.
The ones I'm right about aren't replying. You have to get them individually.

Was FFVII the first one you played?
Almost invariably I find this to be the case with those who call it their favorite.

Populist
This is the man who presumably thought that the new band in Jabba's palace was a good idea.
I wouldn't be so sure in making ANY judgements about the man's taste.

1000 a year? Canadian? Is that just for liability? That's a little bit more than what I paid for two cars (including a 280Z) in California.
Anyhow, many US states and insurance companies have similar discount programs.

Here is an example.

All those faked shares make the propaganda that much better.
That one was a real stretch, though, and bullshit. That was like, someone looking at the font and trying to come up with a string that would create the visual message.
Try typing "NYC" in a couple of Microsoft fonts, wingdings and webdings.
I don't care how they try and dodge it. If you look at one of those two fonts, maybe, but not both of them. MS had themselves a practical joker.

YOU, OUT OF THE GENE POOL!
