    But the platform whoring button on the bottom of the page says *any* browser! You aren't getting all the content you rightfully deserve if you're blocking the pop ups!

    Strangely, I feel absolutely no compulsion to switch to my *any* browser to view it.

    Quality doesn't hurt either.

    Consider the first artist listed on their front page. The first song has a roughly 30 second sample. Could they have picked a worse first impression?

    Several thousand dollars later, stunned by the fiscal support of his readers, he got a job in the industry and quit writing...

    Doesn't penny arcade use a similar system(or used to). I remember the page having a themometer and measuring donations in thousands.

    So if good content can get by on donations, are micropayments even interesting anymore?

    He didn't actually get blown off. They said they'd look into it. But unless he put a ticket in, they have no way to get back to him. Every person that calls tech support thinks their issue is a priority. Which is why they don't want you to talk to a real live expensive tech person.

    I think the submitter should cool his jets and post the story after they've had a chance to look at or ignore the problem. Give them a chance to get it resolved. *Then* go to slashdot/tv/radio/newspaper if it's still a problem.

    I remember this, it was one of the best parts of being in school and living in the dormitory. (Technically I was never in a dorm, but quite close...)

    Going in on a box of mac and cheese with the other poor bastards. Pooling funds for beer, bread, and peanutbutter. These things were way better for comunity building than the stupid "mandatory meetings".

    I suppose I should say something on topic...

    Gadgets are useless but if you're going to get one... a firewire fufme, and a laptop with a digital camera. Stream that video onto the HD and play it back as needed. Or make movies and sell them on the interweb.

    Personally though, I whish I had saved my money. You never know when your transmision/bike are going to bust. God help you if you loose your backpack.

    I use explorer for my window manager. It's got loads of undocumented "features" and it reminds me once in a while to take a break (exception something...). And since the company is a unix supporter now, I can rest easy knowing that someday I'll be 1337.

    I like it. It's fricking huge, and it's got (non functioning) laserbeams on it's head!

    Partially true... Trouble is, there aren't any games out yet that exploit pixel/vertex shader features to the extent that Futuremark does. And that gives us insight into how hardware will perform on next generation games. It's not a be all end all benchmark, even by futuremark's PR. It is a tool to be used along side current generation titles to measure differing aspects of hardware.

    It is by Nvidia's negligence that the optimisations were found. That's why (among other things) the beta program exists with those features. I think we can probably expect this and other cheat hampering features in future versions.

    We already have those, our tivo's think we're gay, and are telling advertisers we will pay over a hundred dollars a year to avoid them (do I watch a $100 in advertising?). God help you if you fall asleep with the TV on skinamax overnight.

    I can tolerate some advertising with my tv. I would much rather be able to rate/select advertisements so I didn't have to see people discussing muffin maintenance or "truth" ad's that are absurd to the point of almost promoting the products they revile.

    This is also why I send the local PBS and public radio station a fat check every year.

    Exactly, and if you're paranoid. A quick blow with a hammer might do it. I've heard a strong magnet makes them useless as well.

    Or just don't use euro's. I pay for all my contraband in pigs and chickens.

    All the major IM clients already do this.
    Newsgroups, mailing lists, book clubs, amazon.com...

    All of them are opt-in sort of communities and are just fine for meeting like minded people and trolls. The only advantage another system has is if it's involuntary, which sucks.

    Time to set up those off shore anonymous remailers and dust off my foil hat. I'm first in line for cmdrtaco@leavemethehellalone.cx.

    The games some of my ex's used to play affected me a bit. :-D

    FF7 in spite of insipid dialog actually left me a bit off. As far as I'm concerned it's the first and last time the video game industry came close to providing a decent story in a game.

    I'm going to need a scheduling app to keep track of who turn it is to turn our wrath on. Now, I've got Firebird(the DB) mail bombing scheduled for moday mornings, and a random senator on thursdays at noon. But this is 1:30PM wednesday and Sun is scheduled from 1 to 3 for a DNS, followed by a quick annonomous hate mail to Pat Robbertson at 3:30.

    Does someone have an update for the hate list. Apparently I'm behind because I still have IBM scheduled for the first and second tuesday of each month.

    Suitcases have almost the same functionality (as far as I know anyhow), and have been around since Win95.

    If Apple really want's to get a leg up on Microsoft, all they need to do is make competant software that makes my life better. Unfortunately publicly traded companies seem to be nigh incompetant in this area.

    Linux is probably our only real hope for free computing. Someday anyway.
