What a disgusting post ... lets see now ...

Instead of bitching about why linux doesn't support your hardware, how about buying hardware that is supported by linux? So instead of your Radeon 9000 or WinTV PVR card .. you could have gotten a Radeon 8500 with a WinTV GO card. All your problems would go away in a heart beat. (Also see notice below)

I have to just be patient and wait for the vendor to produce a driver or for some linux developer go buy the same card I have and make it work.

Why not buy him the card which would only help him write the drivers? I'm pretty sure many kernel hackers would appreciate this. (this would also be much cheaper than buying all those distributions.)

It's my opinion that the kernel developer employed by the distro's have an obligation to develop the linux kernel with me in mind.

First off, you are only ONE customer. Therefore you will be treated as ONE customer. If every customer had an attitude like you, redhat/mandrake/suse/etc would do nothing but write drivers for hardware day and nite. But they've got a billion other things to do.

And I want drivers. I don't care if they're GPL or not.

Then stop your waiting, and stop your complaining: go back to windows. You'll have all the drivers you'll ever need and then some.

I want hardware vendors to write the driver for the hardware they sell and distribute that driver WITH the hardware.

Then buy from companies that support linux. If you're going to buy from a company that could care less about linux .. what are the chances of getting support for linux?? exactly.

That means the linux kernel must allow it to work.

Good luck telling people like Alan Cox that. They could care less about what you think. In fact I'm pretty sure they have never cared for what people like you think. They care about only one thing, and that is pushing out an open source kernel. So far they've done a pretty good job at it IMHO.

    So stop your bitching,

    PS:
Right now I have a radeon 9000 pro and a wintv pvr 250 I'm struggling with.

The Radeon 9000 is supported by ATI's DRI complaint binary only drivers. As well as hacked DRI open source drivers. And your Wintv card has support too (sadly that driver isn't v4l complaint but something is still better than nothing.)
