There used to be patent reasons why UT2k3 wouldn't work on DRI drivers, but now that was solved. But then there were technical reasons why UT2k3 didn't work on DRI drivers, and those are sort of solved. The game is just fine in DRI (but there are a few glitches and such).
And the ATI binary only DRI drivers do them just fine as well.
The story says you get double the battery life with an external battery pack.
I'm guessing you have never seen the outrageous prices sony charges for external battery packs.
Actually, its more amazing that anyone (even sony) could even think of charging the amount they do for their external battery packs (speaking as a sony picturebook owner).
So what is there to prevent me from randomly IMing people and telling them they have won money and that all the need to do is give me their SSN and Credit Card numbers?
The sad part is I'm pretty sure the majority of the people I would IM would believe me too.
I think this contest may do MSFT more damage than good
The XFree team reversed engineered it themselves, all ATi did was steal their work and fling poo at them
Are you nuts? ATI has given DRI docs up to the r200 core. IIRC ATI chose to use DRI as the framework for their binary only drivers, which is about the only thing DRI and ATI have in common.
Apparently the Radeon Mobility is not supported under Linux either - this has made my search for a new laptop very difficult.
This is wrong. Support for all of ATI's mobility cards exist. Additionally if you opt to use the open source driver you may just get some nifty power management stuff from http://cpbotha.net/dri_resume.html .
This has nothing to do with French people. I am plenty sure that there are many people from around the world that have worked on linux, *AND* that you probably disagree with outright.
But none of that matters. What matters is that while our people disagree, and our governments fight, we still can come together on something at least. And in our geeky world, that something is free software.

PS: The right to disagree is rather powerful, sadly people don not see that when they do disagree with each other.
There are too many little and useless apple icons. Either the slashdot guys like apple too much, or are (failing) to attract advertising dollars.
More interestingly, other subjects that Slashdot fans would care more about do not have their own topics. Examples are: google, and over-clocking/cooling.
As time goes on, I believe that there needs to be a more democratic way of dealing with topics. Maybe something subscribed members might be able to take part in.
Chances are pretty good that Doom III, EverQuest II, and a good number of other "hot" games coming out for the next few years will implement DX9 support
Errr, actually
Mr Carmack himself is a large OpenGL fan. Additionally he openly questions those who rely on MSFT's DirectX too much. This is probably the reason why most (if not all) of his games have native linux ports.
I'm sick of this karma whoring going on at slashdot recently. People should be given points of having something to say, and not just reposting data.

So you like posting copyrighted material ?
You do know that with the approval of the copyright holder of this content, you have no legal right to repost this material. So essentially the fine folks of of MozillaQuest Magazine could come after your ass.
This isn't about the DMCA, or the other crap that slashdot babies cry about. This is about copyright laws that exist to rightfully protect information. These same laws protect whatever open source license you choose to use. (Copyright laws might be abused, but they aren't all a bad thing.)
PS: So the next time you re-post copyright data. Don't karma-whore and post it as AC.

This assumes you live in the US, or a country with a vague understand of normal IP.
when I say suspension, I am talking about the computer swapping everything to the hard drive and totally powering off. Windows users may call this feature "hibernate" or something of the sort.
The woman sued because the coffee was simply too hot. It was hot enough to instantaneously destory skin, flesh and muscle.
The woman who spilt it was hospitalized for 8 days and suffered 3rd degree burns on 6 percent of her body.

Am I the only one tired of such jokes ?

When was the last time yahoo got slashdotted ?

I agree with you 100%

THANK YOU!
Finally! no more cheesy karma-whoring. Points should be given to people posting intelligent comments, not just copy/pasting information.

haha, I mean 5 out of 6, major typo

You can get a similar version of Windows Media Player 6.4 by typing mplayer2 at the run dialog box.

Their 3d drivers are written in-house. (Download the package and see the random @ati.com email addresses you will see).

ATI's Alexander Stohr still works on these drivers (and is a lurker of the dri-devel mailing list.)
Lastly, why don't slashdot editors do some sort of background checking. What are they being paid for?

Either the key pad is usually too small, bunched up, or really really hard to push. And on some really annoying phones, a combination of all three!
I honestly don't care about cameras that will only invade my privacy some more. I just want a decent keypad.

PS: when I say suspension, I mean the act of the computer dumping the entire system to RAM. Windows users call this "hibernation" IIRC.
