Are you using a full DS3 at the moment? Are you using all the channels for data, or mixing voice and data?
Are you trying to tie in multiple remote sites? What other interfaces are you looking at? I.E. a Chann DS3 coming in and fast ethernet on the inside? etc...
What about using an external MUX for the Ds1-Ds3?You say you have a cisco box, what model and why are you looking to replace it?
Without knowing more, I would say the Cisco 3600 is your best all around choice.
We actually have 1 OC-12 and 1 OC-3 coming in to our office. The OC-12 is all for remote access to other offices. The Cisco we have now is a 7206, with one slot left available. So we are eating quite a bit of bandwitdth. The main reason we want to switch to a Linux box, besides cheaper parts, is more flexibility. Especially since we can sniff traffic, which is something the Cisco appears to lack.
Someone mod the parent up. Linux desperately NEEDS more people looking at it from a marketing perspective, and LESS zealots running around preaching like Mormons
Ssssssshhhhhh! (In quiet tones) what are you trying to do, get us killed?
Just stand in front of ATM the next time a worm rocks through and watch it start spitting out bills.
See, its a conspiracy. Let Microsoft get the ATM's running Windows, show the entire world how unreliable there are, and start pushing for a cash-less society because these things couldn't happen where every dollar is traceable.
We've been trying to figure out for months how to make our data center more impressive when we take PHB's there on tours. This sounds like just the ticket!
Just keep them away from the aluminum power buttons. You know how PHBs are when it comes to shiny objects.
Cool! More blinkenlights!:-) Can we have one on the PCI bus too? What about the IDE bus? The USB cable. We alredy have one for the ethernet. Soon we'll be able to have our very own home discos.
I knew it! All these Planters commericals on TV with Mr. Peanut singing, "I'm coming out", and now these lights! They're trying to bring back disco!
Telemarketers don't make money answering phones, they make money calling people. They don't have to answer phones to make money. So this probably didn't actually put a dent in thier operation.
It does put a dent in their operations, considering that 800 numbers cost more per minute than a standard long distance rate for a residential phone line. So, if thousands of people started calling an 800 number, it not only reduces available phone lines, but it also costs them money for phone bills.
Why would OEMs buy something that would piss off their customers? I can see Sony doing it to their VAIOs but would Dell?
See this article on the subject. Dell just said they'd offer NO protection to Linux customers from SCO's lawsuits. Do you think Michael Dell cares one bit for you? All he cares about is being buds with Microsoft and making money.
He argues that the promotion of choice of GUI as a positive feature of using Linux is detrimental to its chances of attacking Microsoft's home user monopoly. From the article: '...the open source community must recognize that its primary goals: freedom of choice, freedom of source code, and freedom to alter applications, are not the goals of the average user.'
What if the goal of the Linux developers is not to overthrow Microsoft? Has anyone considered that? We constantly talk about displacing Microsoft on the desktop, how we must beat Windows. I think the developers that spend their time developing the software are making the software for their own usability - not because they want to overthrown Microsoft. Granted some developers probably think about overtrowing, but I bet most of them don't. So all these petty analysts that keep writing shit columns on how we need to mobilize our efforts can take their conspiracy theory filled heads and shove them up their ass.
You, sir, seem to be forgetting that while they created it, they also created Passport - a universal secure login and purchasing ID. If they limit who can use MSN messenger (which requires passport), then they can limit who can use passport the same way. BAD news.
What days were these that you needed BASIC to actually run the machine? What did you used to do, fire up the interpreter and write a mini-shell or something? In BASIC??
Obviously the young can't remember such days. Go get a Tandy Color Computer 2 and turn it on. Wahla, BASIC intepreter at your command. And a Tandy CC2 is MODERN by some people's standards.
Is this perhaps the same space fungus that was eating the Mir space station that we brilliantly crashed into OUR ocean. Lets see. Weird space bug.... Eats space ships... Lived in space... Yeah, why not, lets bring it to earth!
About 15 years ago you could get "robots" that were EXACTLY the same as this - all they've done is stuck a few bits of Velcro on the bottom! Great injection moulded case too - very faux-sophisticated.
I think my childhood toy cost about $10...
Do you have any idea how much it costs to warehouse 10,000 robot toys? Thats why it now costs $39.95
We had a customer with a rather large database that died with his hard drive. We had the same model in stock. One of the guys in my office took the drive physically apart, swapped heads, and read 98% of that database onto a new drive before it died again.
It'd be cool to see some patches come from Redmond, but that's probably wishful thinking.
Remember when Linus said that there is no way Microsoft can fix their bugs; its such a nightmare of bugs that depend upon other bugs to function, that fixing one would break tons of other features... And you want Microsoft to contribute code?
They should just setup a fake slashdot page, so whenever someone from an RIAA IP block goes to slashdot, it shows them articles on how much we love paying for music, and feel guilty that we use free operating systems.
I feel so much better. I was starting to see 1984 come true, where cameras spied on all of the citizens, and you were tracked for the sole point of tracking. Now I can feel relief, cuz when I take a piss in the bushes outside of a QuickyMart, I know their servers won't be recording me, they'll be rebooting so they can install yet another windows critical update (tm)

But honestly, how can it be a car stereo system when the car can't even move by itself! And given that you can't even listen to these things without: a) killing yourself, b) going deaf, c) being real far away, d) turning the volume way down or e) insulating it to lessen the sound; it just doesn't jibe.
One of my friends was into this scene about 10 years ago. The stereo in his car was just like you said: Too loud to be in, too loud to be near, and you dare not even run it with the windows closed, or you'll blow them out. He was able to make a 2 liter of pop jump straight up and down on his roof with the windows cracked when he'd blast it. Pointless, but for some reason he thought it was cool.
BTW: The chicks thought it was cool too. Its not too often you see a chick drooling over you for your 20% overclocked Athlon that runs stable and cooks eggs because its so hot.

I for one welcome are mormon overlords.
I wish that AMD will create some low end chips in the $150-$200 range. The AthlonXP's they have out now in that range are too slow for their price.
I would also like to see motherboards become cheaper because chipsets no longer have to have a memory controller (since the A64's have one built in)
So essentially, you're a real cheap-ass and want something for nothing. Maybe you could send your congressman a letter suggesting welfare for geeks.
Holy cow! Can you say, "Free cash!"

Since the US passed the DCMA.
What is the DCMA? The Direct Control by Monopolies Association?

I'm going to say it was a wise choice not to use Linus in the commercial.
You think a cute 9 year old is a better marketing tool than a cute 30 something-year-old? =)
I think this is a great time to employ that new, low-bandwidth DDOS technique recently discussed on slashdot.

Doesn't the term Industry imply productivity?

Everyone here took this time to be a complete zealot over which distro is the best. You completely missed the point to this guys posting:
He wants to know what his choices are, since Oracle supports RH, and RH is expensive.
Hump the water-cooler. Punch all the buttons on the elevator.
You mean we normally aren't supposed to hump the water-cooler?

If you want to use some serious FileSystem for Linux then continue using EXT2/EXT3 or switch to XFS. everything else is simply a risk.
Where does JFS fit into the picture? I've read tons of comments from people regarding this article so far, and have seen almost nothing about JFS.
They should just setup a fake slashdot page, so whenever someone from an RIAA IP block goes to slashdot, it shows them articles on how much we love paying for music, and feel guilty that we use free operating systems.
