Has it really come to this? I keep thinking that Bush will pull through and be a good guy. However, this latest move is just a bad move with a good motive.
This police state controls only a little part of us, even if it is the little kids. But restricting kids to the underage section well... I don't see how this will be helpful in any case.
They should start with pushing pay-for-porn or banner-filled porn sights to an.xxx domain, not a kids.us domain. It should be moving the problem to something that can be filtered, not creating a new section that can create its own problems.
16 bit screen saver?

Neat pictures, but the screen saver is 16bit and doesn't run on the systems noted. I hope someone updates this.
well.. he's hiding in his fantasy world of the roman empire as he already told you. yes, a reality, but only from a perspective. that is an alternative reality than the times that we live in right now.
he might argue that studying the past is preparing him for the future, but its all an escape of fascination someway or another.
I can understand if it were free, but since people are paying, they are paying to be mod'ed (as in moderator).
I know M$ is against piracy, but they are also trying to build a customer base. If Sony did the same thing it wouldn't hurt as bad. But this is another reason why I'll be staying away from the big bully trying to get a piece of the marketshare by dollars instead of ingenuity.
interesting solution. I grew up around the sugar ants - they were everywhere from skinks to kitchen appliances. also, in the microwave too! and when you turn on the microwave, they can move at 3x's speed, but then again, so would I if I was being microwaved.
we used to put powdered boric acid all over the place, sometimes it worked. but difficult to leave out all over the place.
Isn't it also grounds for you to sue him if he threatens such a lawsuit and doesn't persue it?
on a personal note - you aren't the only one that gets stupid threats like this out there, and I wish you luck. its nothing but frustrating, because of the ignorance/lack of understanding some people have with technology or any subject for that matter.
Everyone remembers the "TECHIES WANTED" articles all over the place years ago. And was it really true? That's debateable. But really, this is more marketing junk for what? To make the business leaders cut back on their already overworked sysadmins?
Not sure what the motive is on this article, but I wish journalists would stop making up the news.
Seriously. But then again, maybe they are? Maybe the alien visitors from other planets are part of our future and they are just mere history students studying their past? Or is time really linear.
A good book to check out in regards to time travel from a non-scientific and more along hte lines of philosophical standpoint: Mercia Eliade's _The Myth of the Eternal Return_. At least.. its a fun read for those who are interested.
I was actually thinking of getting rid of the neighbor's pesky little kids. "Oops"
And if its going to be developed by Microsoft, what will happen to bugs and oooh, virii too! Can you imagine that? Mowing the yard, and Mrs. Smith's rose garden next door too?
The public supplies the money to the movie industry, and turns around and gives that money to the gov't or other individuals (lobbyists) to make things happen. In no way is it a public interest, but only a pocketbook interest.
Its at least a semi-fair move to the NON-Anti-DeCSS following. But personally... I don't buy it.
I was just thinking about this. think of some of the spammer out there in the NG's that do it already - there are not a lot, but a few every so often. you know what to avoid and filter once you see it.
so... if they get so many of these cases against the end users, then there will be an automated process to assess those charges for 50,000+ people, right? thus, coming up with names of episodes or movies would be a flooding solution that will swamp them with unending work due to their fale positives.
With all of these losses, do they actually put these numbers in their books that they lost X millions of dollars within the last year or month?
I hate to say it, but several of my friends, including myself, would not be employed at the moment if it weren't for gaining knowledge through warez. That is how skills are learned. And the classrooms that you pay small lab fees for the LE editions of whatever piece of software - well, that just doesn't do the job.
If they want to protect the software - as noted in an earlier post - they need to impliment communications back to the mothership.
this analogy might just work - after all, we don't really own the software, do we? we just lease it from M$, and Jack Valenti makes sure we don't own anything, even those two hours in a chair behind a screen./rant.
if you click 'no' you do not agree to the EULA, are you able to return the software? most likely, no, you aren't. most stores have an opened software policy. so... how will this be handled?
I hope they have all the backups of the porn spam that I've been receiving lately. I'm sure I'm missing out on some good deals. Oh, and those "fake" paypal and icq activation emails too!
Thanks for the info, but one question regarding this - do you have the updated DVD Player driver which comes with the Sony PS2 DVD Player Remote Control? I don't currently have it, but hear that it helps out these effects on some movies. Might be worth the extra 20 bucks.
I agree totally. That's why I really don't want to work for anyone any longer. But I figure, the more you understand these issues, that they really are actual issues, you become very skilled, so skilled that you are paid to be frustrated, not to hack up some code that works because they constantly change their minds at the last minute, or even worse, their direction - like you pointed out.
Its a very desensitizing game. I have it, and would actually recommend NOT buying the game unless you are over 25! But that's just my opinion on it. It is a great game, and addicting too, but just too desensitizing for most people to handle.
Personally, I swear by the Kinesis keyboard. Pick up one from www.dmb-ergonomics.com I've even purchased one for my mother - she swears, like I do, it will improve typing speed and longevity by about 30% if not better. Its not the ultra high dollar one like the datahand (which goes for $1000), but it definate does the job.
If you go with the MS ergo keyboard, which I've had two of them so far, and IMO they are a nice idea but a very very bad design! Specifically, the throws, and how far you push down on each key strains a bit more. Go from "N" to "Y" on these keyboards and see what I mean.

We have the good ol' DMCA to protect us from 133t h4x0rs reverse engineering products that are no longer on the market!

just wanted to say thanks for the forum link. I didn't know it existed and it should help!
"denied".
you don't have the money to commit crime. here in the US, if you commit a crime - money talks, if you want to commit a crime legally - money talks.

thanks for bringing this up!

could I market and sell a self-destruct button for the warez harvesters out there? I wonder how that could work without causing a total fire hazard.
cool story though, just wondering how it turned out for your buddy.

this means that "gotchange.com" should be given to Chevy since they have bastardized the saying with their crappy ad campaigns.

why can't they track crap like that down too?

also, its quite funny how google searches turn up Asthma sites "sponsored by telstra.com" - not too many but just a few to add injury to the situation
