I've been thinking about ditching iPod / iTunes and getting the AV420 and Napster To Go. The AV420 doesn't work with NTG or even Windows Media Player 10 yet, but apparently it will soon:
I've called Archos but tech support and sales are clueless. When I mention the above press release they said the PlaysForSure logo will be on a new device and to not buy anything yet. They have no idea what will or won't work with NTG.
Your experience is very similiar to mine, except I haven't taken the plunge to go back to school yet. I've considered going back, but only taking one class a semester... it would just take so long!
Mind answering a few qustions?
How much time does school eat up? How much money? Do you have a family or are you still single? Are you doing community college, state? Are you going to do AA first, or are you going straight to BS? Does your current employer know / care that you went back?
I'm very happy in my current job as a programmer, but I'd feel much more secure with a degree on my resume.
I'll be getting my 'Cuda demo box Wednesday. The 300.
How are you protecting your outgoing SMTP traffic? Barracuda doesn't act as an SMTP AUTH Proxy. Are you leaving port 25 open and just not pointing an MX record to it, or are you using some other firewall for outboung SMTP?

I'm using a Treo 600 on Verizon. Yeah, as a.Net developer I hated giving up my iPaq.
palmVNC works great at 150kbs. Certainly not what you could call "fast" but combined with UltraVNC on the server side you can scale the resolution (again, server-side) and it's usable. http://palmvnc2.free.fr/
VeriChat does AIM, Y!, MSN, and ICQ. Works great and by using SMS you appear always online. The phone vibrates (or plays a sound) when you get an IM, even if you aren't in VeriChat, or even if it's turned off. http://pdaapps.com/verichat/index.html
An extra feature: PalmNet and a USB cable allow you to get a 150 kbps connection with your laptop anywhere in the US. Worked out great for me, I just moved and PacBell screwed up my DSL line. PalmNet is my only Intenet connection right now. http://www.junefabrics.com/palmnet/
There is an MP3 player (pTunes) but I have an iPod so I don't use it. There is a built in web browser (Blazer) that is decent. I use it frequently. No email client - some carriers give you one, Verizon didn't. I bought Snapper Mail: http://www.snappermail.com/palm/email/ There is a GPS add on too. I might try it out one of these days. It would be nice if it was built in, but it would probably make the Treo too big.
The battery sucks. I have a charger at work, at home, and in the car. Used extensivly (phone calls, VNC sessions, lots of web browsing, etc.) I can make it one day, just barely, using just the home charger. Used REALLY heavily I don't even make it one day, I have to charge it on the way home, or during the day.
The screen sucks too. Not the resolution, I can deal with that. But in direct daylight it's very hard to see.
The keyboard is brilliant. I'll never use another type form-factor PDA again. When HP comes out with an iPaq that has this type of keyboard (and a built in phone) then I'll switch back to PocketPC. And yes, I've seen the latest iPaq with the snap on keyboard, I don't think that's going to be good enough.
I would say go for it now, who knows when the phone carriers will have the 650. It took Verizon over a year to get the 600.
I'll have to agree here. After a 40 - 60 hour week writing code I go home to my air cooled, carburated, 1968 912. There is still a lot of use that can be had from Bugs, Busses, and old Porsches. They are easy to work on and get insane mileage when treated right.
It's nice to be able to work / play on something so simple when my day job involves things so complex.
The Fluke NetTool does all that plus stuff like it can hook up inbetween a workstation and a switch and tell you why it's not connected (crossover cable instead of a patch cable, wrong subnet, cut wire, etc.)
$1200, but well worth it.
They have an 802.11x version too.
One of the best ones I saw was for the Nissan 350Z. In the Showcase it said to press 'select' and they'd mail me a DVD of the Z racing around Prague. Sure enough, a bit later a DVD showed up at my door after simply pressing a button on my remote.
I bought a "store demo" unit for $170 from DealExpress.com. Although it took them 6 DAYS!!! to ship it (so much for my overnight shipping fees) it came in the box with all accessories, manuals, CDs, etc.
This was for last years model, the 10 GB version. So I can't use many of the accessories designed for the newer iPods. I don't have the dock for example. But I get better battery life and I paid less then $200!
I always thought a Linux bootable CD would be great at Best Buy. Throw the CD in, reboot, and then ask the sales rep to come over and show you how to get around "this new version of Windows."
They didn't really "issue" a warning. They turned off the encyrption - making the antenea act like it wasn't capable of performing encyrption. Then all of the phones, noticing they don't have their normal encyrption, just added one more icon to the screen.
They only issued a warning in the sense that Iowa issues a warning to all cell phone users that you are currently roaming. It's a function of the phone, not the KGB.
That's how I pay for gas at Mobil, with their Speedpass. It's a small keychain thing that looks like a black magot:
Well, that was how I paid for gas at Mobil. I cut my Speedpass open, took out the glass cylinder, and put it inside my Nextel i90 cell phone, it fit next to the battery. The Speedpass only lasted a few months before dieing. I haven't tried it again yet...
It was cool when it worked though, I just held my cell phone up to the pump to pay for gas.
As long as it has a headset jack that'd work:

Expected 2nd quarter 2006.
Thanks.
So can I get a physical phone now? Everytime my phone rings I have to:
u mer%20voip
- click 'Answer'
- pause iTunes
- put headset microphone near mouth
- say "hello"
- put on headset
- turn off speakers
Skype is my only phone, I work from the house. It's rock solid reliable but I'd love one of the phones that Vonage users get:
http://www.uniden.com/products/index.cfm?cat=cons
An ACTUAL phone, not connected to my computer, but ethernet jack in the back. I give it my Skype account and it connects.
Well, this will do it:
9 356
http://www.replay-music.com/?AID=10363532&PID=149
but for $15 a month there isn't really a need. You get 3 computers + 3 MP3 players. I'd rather not spend my time stripping DRM of my music.
Do you have one of these?

Yeah, just like implanted hearts, lungs, kidneys, blood. Those never work. I never seen anyone get a blood transfusion and live to tell about it.
Certainly permanent contacts won't work. How could anyone wear contacts EVERY DAY? Nope, not gunna happen.
What kind of blog, or any frequently updated web site, doesn't syndicate? How are we supposed to know when it's updated?

God doesn't want that

never read anything against that. Screw away

Look, it's simple. Ignore the idiots who are trying to tell you what the Bible says. Pick it up and read it yourself. Start with John.

Sweet! It worked, thank you so much!
The sad thing is I had those drivers. It never occured to me to read the README. I guess I'm just to use to the NT / Win2k world.
Anyway, thanks again - that's one more Linux server in the world - it's replacing an NT4 DNS server for a nice little savings to the company.
I'm using the FastTrack100 and RedHat9 (trying to anyway)... any tips?
Where are these Promise Instructions you mention? I tried emailing Promise, but I got no reply.

You might want to check your sources, they have said quite the opposite!
Here is a thread from TiVoCommunity.com that talks about it.
