    This kind of hedging strategy is EXACTLY what call and put options are for. Repeat after me: Options are a hedging strategy and not an investment by themselves.

    If this was a story about someone who had sunk all their savings into options as an "investment" then yes, it would be a fool-parted-from-money story, but it isn't.

    Cuba has never been communist any more than China or Russia. They have always been ruled by a moneyed power elite. That's not Communism, it's capitalism dressed up as Communism. It is essentially jumping straight to late-stage capitalism without enjoying any of the benefits of the early or middle stages.

    This is a typical mistake, to confuse a type of economic system (capitalism) with a type of government (oligarchy), mainly due to being misnamed 'communism' in the above examples.

    an older friend shared an insight with me, that it is the young people who have all the vitality, energy and enthusiasm. the younger people are the ones that will be creating the wealth and (directly or indirectly) looking after the older generation

    In classic economics the theory is that the older generation who have accumulated wealth during the energy and enthusiasm of their youth then spend it on being cared for by the new generation. Your assumption seems to be that the first generation did not save any wealth yet it's somehow the responsibility of the next generation to simultaneously generate their own wealth right away and care for the prior generation?

    Yeah, but the author's idea of 'stolen' is pretty much anything they do not like. The author (and site) single out health services as esp evil and 'destroying the youth'.

    When the football team coaches are paid in the millions (the top 25 coaches' salaries are 5M+) then yes, money for supposedly class tuition is being stolen.

    Last time I was in NYC I had the exact opposite problem. Sit down restaurant, linen tablecloths... cash only. No sign or warning at all until after eating and being told 'we don't accept anything except cash'. There I was with cards only. Had to borrow from the friends I was with. No idea what I would have done if I had been alone or none of us had cash.

    Chinese pronunciation is the only weird thing about the language. Otherwise, there are no irregular verbs mainly because verbs aren't conjugated in the first place. There's no gender assignment to any words like in French or Spanish. The sentence order is like basic English structure: subject - verb - object.

    If you go live there full time it's fairly easy to learn to speak.

    What are you babbling about? Japanese consumers do not have a unified credit score like the US but they definitely do have credit reporting with the bank and similar financial institutions they use.
