    Adobe distributes Flash for the Pocket PC. It's older, Flash 4 maybe? And it ain't super fast. But on my years old Axim PDA, which is I think a 400MHz ARM, I can play swf's like Magical Trevor.

    Maybe the issue is more that Adobe/Apple can't easily provide compatibility with the current version of Flash. I'd rather have some than none though.

    He billed about $30M in false charges... and it seems like that money is being used to pay the fine.

    Please, someone tell me I am wrong.

    You have to pay $5 to get all of the tracks and not just 9. But--the web site says that Ghosts I-IV is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike license.

    That license says

    Technically... the freedom to share does not seem limited to the first 9 tracks.

    Maybe once the busted ass download server is working and I get my copy, there will be a different license inside the zip.

    You mentioned blue laws.. HAHA.. Here in Oregon, you cannot buy Liquor anywhere but at a state owned liquor store. The state owns the store, then leases it out to a private individual to run. You can buy beer and wine at grocery stores...

    Well as no one can get drunk on beer or wine, it's OK to sell them more openly.

    Its a band aid. The real fix is to find the thing making you depressed and fix that. And you need to talk to someone for that.

    You seem to be saying that depression is never caused by something physical in the brain--that it is always a matter of psychology and never a matter of physiology. That is not correct.

    I was far too lazy to do the math, but I know what 500 lumens looks like since I have a flashlight that puts that out. And my engineering intuition, though many years out of date, tells me that it ain't coming from a gadget with these specs.

    Nonetheless: clever and I'd get one if the price was right.

    I have seen somewhere the idea of a clock which is wound by changes in barometric pressure. I LOVE that idea.

    I would be inclined to let the economy finally crumble, and rebuild it. Sure, it'll suck, but we'll be better off because of it, if we fix it the right way.

    That is a big if. I have basically completely lost confidence in our culture and government when it comes to The Big Issues.

    It must irk MS to no end that Leopard just needs the final spit and polish while Vista languishes.

    I used to work at MS. As a contractor only, and only for a few years, so I have a tiny bit of insider perspective. From what I saw,I would be surprised if there are more than a few people at MS who are irked about anything Leopard does better.

    The weird, weird, weirdest thing about that place was how off in their own little many people were. I expected a computer company to be full of people who liked computers in general. MSFT is full of people who like MSFT, and many of them don't really understand that there are other kinds of computers at all.

    I mean, sure, they know that there are things like Macs, but in the same way I know that there are planets around other stars. What do they have to do with me?

    Maybe things aren't really that bad, but it is the impression I got in my time there.

    It seems like whenever I am in need of wifi, there is never an open AP around.

    I work in Bellevue, WA. According to that web site, there are 7 places that offer free wifi in the whole city. I am sure the site isn't completely accurate, but still, there don't seem to be a lot of opportunities. Maybe it's a regional/cultural thing. Certainly when I check with my PDA, I rarely find anything, no matter where I am. (anecdote != data, I know)

    It's strange that some kind of connectivity are getting easier and cheaper. Wifi, for example... I complain about the lack of it, but it IS improving. Compare to cell phones/SMS where rates apparently only go up. And, I was on a cruise recently, where internet access was $0.75/minute. In 2004, it was $0.35/minute.

    The glorious freely connected future of my dreams seems to be receding rapidly... unless you are near a Panera.

    Every desktop he looked at had Solaris, Linux, or OS/X running on it. My boss looked at him all confused. He tried to explain to the guy, again with no luck, that we don't use windows or windows software.

    Why were they there, then? I mean, why did someone let them in to look around? Were The Authorities there with a warrant?

    Regardless, sounds like it was teh suxorz.

    Frankly no one has yet demonstrated real benefits of 64 MJ to the end user who has been doing fine with 32 MJ for years now. Now dual launchers, on the other hand, should yield immediate tangible benefits in conflicts optimized for their use.

    Am I the only one underwhelmed by almost every new graphics card announcement these days? Graphic cards have long since been really fast for 99.9999% of cases. Even gaming.

    Do you play current games? They keep getting more demanding, and people who want to play those games also want hardware to match. If your current hardware suits your needs... Good for you. Please realize that others will have different needs.

    Today's "pissing match" card is tomorrow's budget gamer's choice. I LIKE progress.

    I've been thinking about that for about 20 years, ever since I had an epiphany in a biology class. Living systems are ultimately solvable, and even a partial solution is very, very powerful.

    Compared to nuclear technology, biotech has an even greater potential for good or ill works. IMHO.

    The decades to come will be interesting.

    This anecdote pertains specifically to biodiesel, but among friends surely we can discuss all kinds of biofuels?

    The other day I saw a diesel Passat with this bumper sticker, and I just wanted to rant to a crowd that would understand:

    BIODIESEL
    The 100% solution
    Kyoto compliant, carbon neutral, OPEC free

    I wanted to run him off the road and give him a math lesson as he lay torn and bleeding in a ditch. If we covered every square centimeter of arable land in the US with the most magical crop available, it could not make enough fuel for us to be OPEC free. Not by a LONG shot. And we need to grow food, too!

    Biofuels can be a great part of a solution. They are not a solution by themselves. But some people are driving around believing that "they" are stopping us from deploying perfect solution. I'm sorry, Passat man... It isn't that simple. I beg of you, do the math and reduce the scope of your conspiracy theories. The truth is bad enough.

    I LIKE HDTV. No one held a gun to my head. And if I wanted to keep an old TV, it would still work even if I had to buy an off-the-air converter box. If I wanted to keep using it with a cable/sat box, then no effort at all is required.

    When people see HDTV and say, "it doesn't do anything for me" I respect their opinion and that's that. I don't preach. Please do me the same favor and let me enjoy my god damned bigass TV. Enjoy your 9" B&W CRT, bootleg anime VHS tapes, or listening to the wireless with the other curmudgeons. You can all have a good laugh at my expense; send me a telegram if you like. Please include the details of the car you drive so I can criticize it.

    But don't force everyone else to.

    I'm not. The OP said he wanted to replace that TV but was afraid of modern connectivity standard issues. My post was in reply to that, saying it's not that bad so if you want a new TV, get it.

    Context, motherfucker, do you get it?

    If you want HD, theres cable and satellite for that.

    If there is specific gear you want, hit the web and look for specific problems. Because there are some, no doubt. (This stopped me from buying a particular Sony AVR in the recent sales... Terrible HDMI implementation and forums full of problems.)

    Otherwise... replace that 22 year old TV already! Go to AVSForum and research the models you are interested in. If there are problems... they are probably uncovered already.

    I have several random HDMI gadgets and they all work fine. Which isn't proof of anything... but I agree that HDMI horror stories are VASTLY louder than they ought to be.
