The executive envisioned protection software that placed no restrictions on conventional cassette copies of CDs and some restrictions on digital copies.
I'd love to see how they would place restrictions on cassette copying - It can't be done in this manner, the cassette is just recording the analog output of the music. They say this as if its a 'feature' that they are throwing in out of the kindness of their hearts- "hey, look- we won't limit cassette copies"
As far as interactive content goes, thats another smoke screen, Its not as if this isn't already being done and is a 'feature' of this new technology. I've seen CD's with 'interactive content' before (Beasty Boys-Hello Nasty). Oh look! A link to the bands website! How very interactive!
The wonders of student debt. You get the experience of working for a living without any large tricky amounts of cash to worry over. The bank makes sure of that.
Hotmail? Internet Cafes? Who needs encryption when you can walk into a cafe and log on to agad435q3@hotmail.com and use keywords instead of blatant text?
Sheesh. I mean there may be a lot of guilt to spread around, but this is ridiculous.
.. How about an IP address, assigned at birth.. Thats where you can host your site. Of course you always have jealousy over the really cool IP numbers, but hey, No copyright problems.
I'm in complete agreement with you, I think that for clarity we should indeed ban everything. Not only would this protect people from the horrors of piracy, but all of those 15 year olds would get a kick out of the fact that no matter what they do, it would be illegal.
But.. by 'content providers' do you mean the people that actually create the content (i.e. film-makers, musicians, etc) or do you mean desk-folk and brokers that buy the 'content' from the creator and re-sell it to the 'people'.
This could be interesting- It'll be interesting to see if just because there are more linux/apache servers out there, that means this thing will spread more and do more damage than Code Red. Or perhaps the linux machines will be better maintained than the NT machines.. We'll see.
..Nothing like waking up in the morning and keying in your social security number so you can listen to that new CD.. You're morning relief is sampled by the 'smart toilet' and sent in to the lab for analysis.. The bio-metric toaster needs a finger print confirmation to make toast for you, and a quick retinal scan to send your dreams in to 'Global Corp'.. Why remove the wiring harness ever? But we did away with Piracy! Now everybody is RICH! Hoo-Ray!
Ah..But you can't put a laptop in your pocket. I agree that you may not want to watch a lot of video on the Pocket PC, but I do find it handy to have my demo-reel available in my pocket, and with the Targus stowaway keyboard it does replace my laptop for daily typing tasks..
Ultra WideBand looks promising for PDA/ Wireless data transfer, and with that kind of bandwidth you could shove quite alot of stuff including video.. Lets just do away with 'traditional' broadcasters - Its the future already.
The social element of gaming, vs. the story-and-puzzle elements. Scott predicts that, within 5 years, game-creation utilities will simplify designing.
Doesn't that just mean more cookie-cutter games with slightly different graphics? The games that really make a difference I think will always be built from the ground up and based (hopefully) on a somewhat unique concept..
So this is only a problem with online reviews? come on.. When you've got Sony hiring movie reviewers for print? Or have you seen the state of Automobile reviews? The problems are the same.
And hell, why not? If I was trying to sell a product I'd buy me a few reviewers.. By the way, if the Honda Corp is listening- Send me some cash and I'll change that to a positive review..
there's no reason to believe that some deus ex machina is suddenly going to save net users from a police state.
Aww.. Dude.. I was totally counting on that tho'.. Are you sure?
Actually, if anything will save users from a police state it's going to have to be the users themselves.. The main problem I see right now is that most users are overwhelmed with the flood of new technology.. Many people are just amazed that it's possible to do so many things with a computer.. They're in the process of getting used to that ability now.
The flood of new tech right now is faster than law, and that lets people try new methods of communicating working and sharing.. Once these are ingrained it's going to be much harder for anyone to take these tools away from the masses.

..It'll be said again:
Return faulty products for refund or exchange. The marketplace rules, and if enough people return these cd's this technology goes to an early grave.
Why Login?
While we're minimizing the threat of wrong-doing, lets not forget to shut down the razor factories, the internet cafes, rental car companies, etc..
why not just stay in bed all day? Its probably safer than wandering out in the street and getting hit by an errant solar flare, a bad driver, etc..
Flamebait? Maybe this whole solar flare thing is my fault then eh?
..anomalies in radio communications and power service are likely consequences.
The ultimate slashdot effect!
I knew I should have invested in that UPS.. sigh.

I believe it's DivX ;-)
Perhaps sniffing around for profitable oppourtunities with the MPAA et all has worn that nose clean off?

my understanding is that the iPaq has kicked far more butt then the Jornada.
Thats probably because they can be upgraded..
Both in Operating system and Memory.

They were right! You can find almost anything online, from bomb recipes to killer robots - There ought to be a law!
..Although I'm guessing this thing could come in handy with unwanted house-guests..
Eh.. Ever driven the Toyota Prius? Same concept, but it actually *works*.. There's no reason a hybrid vehicle needs to be crappy..
And hell, why not? If I was trying to sell a product I'd buy me a few reviewers.. By the way, if the Honda Corp is listening- Send me some cash and I'll change that to a positive review..

Until I can plug my PDA into my brainpan, I'll stick with transcriber on the ipaq and the targus stowaway keyboard for heavy text entry..
..For what it would cost you for the service, you might as well just run cat5 cable out there..
..Uh-huh.. Yeah Mom, I'm keeping track of my grades
