    Not so fast -- even using a random WiFi point can map back to you since even consumer wireless routers remember your MAC (Wifi network card ID). That's why I have a utility to change it to/from random MACs such as the NSA's 00-20-91-xx-xx-xx

    Ok I take it you don't know how to change the reported MAC from your hardware?
    It has been trivial for years

    You know once I might have believed that. But anymore with as intrusive as adds are getting I don't buy it. At one time the courts declared that if you had to pay for the services you could not get adds through it. (Faxes)
    Now the way the advertising people are acting it is your duty to watch their stupidity. If they don't want me to block their adds don't put their adds out there. If that means there is less content on the net hence less people on it, FINE! It could be that I have been on the net since the September that never ended. But as long as I am paying for this net connection I will block any data I don't want. If you don't like it don't count on a failed and discredited distribution method. Using stupid and pointless laws to back up your business model will just make sure that I am willing to take the extra effort to block them. And apparently enough people agree with me so they think that they need to try to force it with stupid non enforceable laws.

    I haven't bought a thing from HSN or had any visitors from three letter Government agencies in a long time.

    That is because they consider that a hostile act. Now they are watching you through scopes as you have elevated yourself from the suspicion level of they are sure you are doing something they won't approve of. To they know you are up to something now. You will see when they get the people to understand that nothing is more important the security you will be the first in line for a body cavity check.......

    I still won't let a Microsoft patch anywhere near my network until it is about 6 months old.

    Anybody have any recommendations in regards to breeds of dogs that are insanely protective of the family and *won't* attack Junior if the dog's ears are being pulled?

    With out question it would be an English Mastiff.
    Just get a trainer for yourself then get the dog and have the trainer come back after the the dog crosses 2years. Or you will never be able to discipline the kid with the dog around. My son is young but I would trust him with Nitro (2yr old Rottie) He would make someone kill him before my son would ever be touched. And rotties are down bread from the Mastiff

    I am chill. I assure you that Yucca Mountain is at best a temporary idea.
    Either that or people are insane as you suggest. That said I like Yucca Mountain a LOT better then the current containment methods. . But I am frustrated at people talking about throwing away a good resource. Political arguments aside if the human race does not grow up soon the ability to disrupt the entire planet is becoming easier everyday. Could you honestly compare the damage from using a few nukes to the damage that genetic engineering or nanotech could cause? I support devolopement of theis and other new sicences. But we as a race need to grow up fast or we have had it.

Just one of your little "forgotten" points is the after the DOE made that promise the Carter administration baned the reprocessing of the fuel. You are so totally closed minded on the subject you can't even see the forest for the trees. If we reprocessed it there would be no problem in the first place. I notice you even managed to get in a little political bashing. So here is mine. The only difference between Bush and Kerry is the name. They both lie like whores in church.

    Right but the miss in your analogy is that the mechanic billed for 5 times the book repair time.
    Or actually took 5 times as long as it should have taken. And if that is the case how is it the problem of the client that it took that long?

    10.5 hours for an OS install? No way. For $800 the client could have gotten a new computer.

    He states that he billed her 800.00 total.
    That is a lot more the $45.

    I would hope computer people have more morals than used car sales people or politicians.

    Is it just me or should that guy be embarrassed to admit that he took 10.5 hours to reinstall an OS and a security suite? I realize that he took the long way to fix the issue. As far as I see it if ANYONE other then the client has had root on a box you can't trust it. Ever. You need to reinstall from known good media and start over.
    But maybe that is just me.

    In a word NO. I mean hell NO. The government has all ready been busted for (asking NOT FORCEING) onstar to turn the mice that is in the system and listening to what is being said in the car. Without a warrant mind you. With a track record that goes as far back as the beginning of the government I will actively resist any more intrusions into my privacy..

    Kind of remindes me of my EMT instructor, She has three tattoos
    There is an "X" two fingers above her zyphoid process (where you put your hand for chest compressions)
    and underneath is says push here.
    She has the outline of two fingers on her right wrist.
    And a circle around her vein in her arm.

    Lets just say that if she didn't train them she doesn't trust them.
    Then again she is of the opinion that no matter how far along a woman is in labor when you pick them up in an ambulance if the baby is not born in a hospital your driver is to slow.

    Yes but using open source projects does not put you at any more risk then using close source projects. The FUD is that they do. To address your point then. The same countries/people would be there wanting the information wither of not open source was even involved.

    Open source is a non factor.
    That is why it is FUD

    You have to be able to code.
    And you have to be able to take peer review.
    Go over that part about peer review again.
    It is more then someone in the next cube trying to get the same project out the door fast enough not to get outsourced.

    And more importantly the amount of code you need for the example of gunnery targeting would not take anywhere near as long as reviewing a single version update. Not to mention that the CIA has all ready rolled their own distro...so it doesn't matter. You can't try to poison every distro tree hoping to catch every possible use, you would have to get inside to know what code they are going to use.

    Just the same FUD different day.
