    As I live in a state that does not require two party consent it does not really matter. Where I am it is perfectly legal to record conversations with people with out the little beep every few seconds. In fact if Monica had lived in MN she would have been fine.
    IANAL but any bets on how this would apply to chat logs?

    Fox and CNN charge per customer in the package they have. (Tier 2) After the 9/11 news coverage the cost went up by about 80% or something like that. So if your pissed about a rate hike you know who to be pissed with.

    Incorrect that law says you do not have to have tier 2 to get tier 3. For example
    You connect with a cable company.
    You must get local channels gov access Channels 1-12 or so. You also want the movie tier you don't have to have tier two. That is all that one means.

    Well let me turn that one around for you.
    Most people are quite sure that this is a pump and dump. How much convinceing would it take for them if, a company that is owned by a company that is owned by a company that is owned by a company were to buy a toothpick from them for $20 million or so? On top of the gains they have made from selling their stock?

    I have had this discussion with other people before if you think this is a waste of money you really need to read the new laws more carefully. Mainly that connecting to any network uninvited qualifies as terrorism. So by the letter of the law telneting into a mail server to see if it is working is enough to qualify as a terrorist. Then again if they jumped every time some dufus tried a stunt like this they would be so bogged down in court that they would not be able to do any real work. All this makes me wonder, does someone in the group of people know somebody important or is the government that tender about the 911 system?

    He simply said you get what you pay for.

    How you got there was your own doing.....
    BTW He was right you do get what you pay for.
    You want to hire a crack programmer? Be ready to pay him/her much more then the regular intern. Otherwise you had better have some other way to keep their attention.

    As someone who has asked the people at work (in the big 5 cable providers) the logs are tossed after two weeks. That is how long they have to get the court order to the company. Even a day later and it is tough they are gone.

    A) A major Microsoft Law Suit

    B) An OS that has you running as root.

    c) An windows clone that is too busy trying to emulate windows to be a good OS.
    In my not so humble opinion the idea is to be better then Miscrosoft not to be the same.

    Or did I miss a memo or something?

    Where the heck did I say ANTYHING about guns??
    And I did read the article unlike you as it states that it can't yet cut through much cheese as of yet. Aside from your "knee jerk" jumping to conclusions I just stated that with the tendency for companies to get sued when their products get misused. At least in the US. If someone can get news coverage for threatening to sue his cable co because he got fat from watching TV.... Also see the suits against the gun manufactures. Similar stupidity...

    Exactly.... Remember the cardboard signs that you can put in your windshield to keep out some of the sun during the summer? There is a reason that in big letters on the back it says DO NOT DRIVE WITH SHADE IN PLACE!!!!

    One or two law suits is all it will take.

    The legal ramifications and potential misuse will make it unlikely (as cool as it would be)
    to ever to be offered to consumers.

    For the record I am at work and browsing Slashdot
    Work knows I am in the habit of browsing this website. They don't care as long as my productivity does not go down. (Just have to be careful of the goatse trolls.) But I resent the implication that because I am at work and reading /. I am doing something wrong. It looks to me like you are trying the time tested 'your so bad you can't say anything about me' divisionary tactic. Proving why you are comfortable working for SCO. They have been doing the same thing all along... Are you SURE you are not in management?

    No the problem is that unless it inconveniences them they don't care. It is the same thing as applying patches to whatever the OS they are using. They just can't be bothered. My roommate runs his WAP wide open because he doesn't want to bother typing the MAC into his router to restrict it to approved MAC only. In my not so humble opinion they get what they are asking for. They get burned they learn. (Shrug)
