Wrong. Apple cares about their market share. It's a company. They exist to make money. Make no mistake: if they could have the market share Microsoft does, they'd take it in a second.
Publicity stunt, yes. However, it's interesting because it'll set a precedent. Under what circumstances can classified information be disclosed? I'm all for freedom of information, but by the same token, realize that some knowledge is best not left available to the public.
Your first comment is dead-on. I would have agreed with the second one up until a couple months ago, when I first saw an iPAQ 1945. Small (like Palm-sized small), light, beautiful, built-in Bluetooth. I hate to say it here, but Pocket PC 2003 rocks pretty hard, and it has great integration with Windows. I got it on a killer deal from OfficeMax a couple weeks ago and haven't looked back.

Geez, you'd think they could at least make the 500 error a little obscene...
About 95% of what I do is in xterm, and I have plenty of control of colors and font in there. You apparently have a different idea of "not ugly" than I do. I don't need gradients or shadows or pretty menus. I need to do WORK, and have it not hurt my eyes, since I do it 40 hours a week.. By those standards, it's fine.
I know you're trolling, but I'll respond. CDE isn't that bad as far as looks, but it's a horrible for stability. I know, I use it on a day-to-day basis. I'm a rebel around my parts, everyone else around here actually uses OpenWindows. [[shudder]]
of the cookbook. Hell, keep the electronic version in a text file somewhere. There have been at least a couple of times I've finished writing a script, then I've looked in the Cookbook and found a better-written solution.
It's unique in that it doesn't just tell you about specific language properties. It actually gives a problem, a solution, and an explanation.
a) 1. Find name of package you need 2. Find the package 3. Download package you need 4. Build package you need 5. Find and download any and all dependencies (the real time consumption) 6. make install
... or...
b) 1. Find name of package you need 2. apt-get install package
I know apt doesn't *always* work that smoothly, but it has for me 95% of the time. I know you can install it on any other distro, but why bother?
For the love of god, don't switch to Sprint. They lied to me and added charges on to my account, and then later told me it didn't matter. They let a 5 year+ customer go over $10 a month.
I switched to ATTWS and couldn't be happier. Hell, they're giving out 60 minutes for free because of the big blackout a couple months ago. As long as you were close to the area, you just call and that's it. I know they're a Big Evil Corporation, but they're certainly less evil than Sprint.
Why the hell we have to be forced to buy the phone WITH the service in this country is beyond me.
What are you talking about? You can walk into any place, any time, and buy a phone for any carrier without the service. You'll pay a lot more, but you can do it.
As for using the phones on other carriers' networks, it's sort of around now. And it's coming, eventually, once GSM propogates.
which meant I had to call MS. It's surprisingly a no-questions asked phone call... pretty much
You're lucky. I got a copy of Outlook 2002 with my Ipaq. I installed it on my laptop, activated over the internet, then later decided to install it on my desktop instead. My phone call was a little more difficult than yours.
MS CSR: "You have already installed this?" Me: "Yes, and I want to install it on a different system." MS CSR: "Did it come with your laptop?" Me: "No. It came with my Ipaq. It's a Pocket PC." MS CSR: "I'm not familiar with an Ipaq Pocket PC." Me: "It's a PDA. A handheld computer. You know..." MS CSR: "Oh, right. It can only be on one system. Is it installed on your Ipaq Pocket PC?" Me: "No, it's for use in conjunction with it." for (i = 0; i < 10; i++) { MS CSR: "Is it still installed on your laptop?" Me: "No. I'm only going to use it on my desktop now." } MS CSR: "OK here is your 10000-digit long cd key..."
The instant I saw the "Thank you for activating" message come up, I was so pissed that I just hung up on him. The incompetence of the rep just killed me.
For once in my life, I decide to not pirate something, and this is what I get. Never again.
I don't know about you, but I don't always use a fork like a spoon, i.e. like a shovel. I tend to use those points on the fork for, you know, stabbing stuff. I think that would be rather effective in space.
I only read printed material when it's necessary, i.e. I don't have access to a computer. It's pretty sad, really, because I'd like to read fiction, but it can't hold my attention. I think it's because the internet has such a high throughput to your brain.
Damn AOL for getting me started. Yeah. It's the big corporation's fault.
I was prejudiced against Nokia for the longest time because of their emphasis on being cute. I recently got a "normal" Nokia phone (8265), on which the only non-normal item is the buttons, which are somewhat oddly-shaped and laid out. I like the phone a lot on the whole. Still, it seems that they refuse to make a "normal" phone that isn't the size of a brick. Weird button feel or layout seems to be the biggest problem. But judging by the pictures linked to in the article, it looks as though this thing might be difficult to even talk on.
I realize that looks sell, and I'm not one of those "give me just a phone, dammit" people. But let function rule over looks for at least some things. Don't put the buttons in a circle, for chrissake.
This seems hard to believe considering you can master RPN while driving.
Uh... he said he was in high school and with his parents. I'm guessing there was a reasonable (read: 99%) likelihood that he wasn't driving. I think he meant to say "riding", but it was fairly obvious to me.
Wrong. Apple cares about their market share. It's a company. They exist to make money. Make no mistake: if they could have the market share Microsoft does, they'd take it in a second.
Exploding phones? I thought Nokia had the patent on that!

Yes, you are.
"I don't need another mouse button".
"You get more for your money".
There, that's better.

went back to Debian. Couldn't get over not having apt...
For example, if the ISP hosting your email goes out of business, you're screwed.
;)
No you're not. Wait for their domain registration to expire, and then have as many email addresses as you want.

That's it? Should be #2. Linux is the second best OS in the land!
I had to.
Have a great Sunday!

I got a connection refused when trying to connect. Here's an ASCII-art mirror of the motherboard:
