for my Timex Sinclair ZX80. I had a tower of ram stacked 8 high, all soldered together except for one pin which stuck out with a wire running off it to the data bus.
Not only does it have no brakes, it also has no engine, no throttle, no gearshift and no steering wheel. And it can carry the average rider for a full day, nonstop, on only five cents' worth of electricity.
Would't this describe a brick, that uses electricity?:)

What do we need with an engineer? Where whould he fit in? I would guess somewhere between Developer and Hacker, (because I know some engineers and they aren't Gurus in their respective fields, but are competent.)

6 months ago I was telling people that linux desktop was about equivilent to win95, now I'd say win98. (as far as the applications available). I was using Mandrake 7.8 and upgraded through the web to 8.0 then 8.1. I bought Mandrake 8.1 last night, and it's so much better then the downloaded version. (I can use my network printer on mandrake, but can't on win98!)
If I didn't program for windows everyday, I'd take the linux challenge (use only linux for a month), and it would be no problem at all.
Why would you need someone to maintain perfect software? Francis is a fantastic programmer, and his stuff is very useful. I'm sad to hear he's leaving TortoiseCVS, but I also think his time is wasted there (it's done). I'm looking forward to seeing what new projects he's going to work on.
Who has the say of what software that is? If it's not MS, then it could work out very well. (1 billion dollars worth of a free OS is a whole lot of CD's!)
I assume that MS isn't supplying the hardware, why should they supply the software?
I've been using sourceforge for 3 projects, the first I joined about 1 1/2 years ago. My experiences have overall been good, the worst part is getting setup in the first place. Once you've got the repository setup, and your local client (a real pain in windows environment) then everything works beautifully.
Sourceforge introduced me to CVS and now I convince others. (little and big) This is one of the true beauties of the Open source model, in my mind. It's the best education system around.
Where does this go, on a petabyte file?
how about lseek(handle,MAX_LONG,SEEK_SET);
My point is that the location is specified by a long, which on intel systems is 4 bytes. It doesn't reach past this, so what good is a petabyte system that allows larger files then can be accessed?
I must be missing something. Anybuddy with a clue out there?
Hacking is the fun stuff, everything else is the boring stuff. Find some fun stuff to do and it will come back. Keep doing everything else and you will forget that it was ever fun. I've always got half a dozen projects on the go. Most will never go anywhere but are for my own enlightenment and enjoyment.
OTOH, not everyone is hacker/geek material. You just might not have the chops to do it. Nothing wrong with that, and better to find out now then to realized that you've wasted umpteen years doing something you don't like.
I've found exactly the same thing. I program in several languages, and Delphi definititly is the fastest compile time. The IDE is also nice and allows quick development time. Also has a good debugger. It's worth the investment of 1 or 2 days to learn pascal.
Usually slashdot comments are lemming comments that follow the current political slashdot mindset. Once in a while someone says something really important. This is one such case. It's too bad there's only 5 moderation points. This deserves to stand out from the crowd.
What's so special about Mandrake 8.1 that it can't use Evolution. Ximian supports Mandrake 7.0, 7.1, 7.2 and 8.0 but not 8.1.
What are YOU doing reading slashdot!
Would't this describe a brick, that uses electricity?
>Well, I bet *I* can do it in 11,000 years!
>Any takers?
ok, GO!
Slashdot can reject stories so fast. THAT'S RIGHT! THE FASTEST REJECTERS IN THE WEST!

They used speech parts to make up words in the same way. (Hope this sounds better though)

I use Kylix and Delphi 5 to code games under Linux and Windows, using the SDL code. Same code for 2 different OS (OpenGL to boot)

I use Kylix do do game's programming with SDL, it's compatible with both Delphi and Kylix so it's an easy port between windows and Linux.
Also the Pascal is so fast to develop in, I've decided that I like it (horrors!) more they C/C++. (And I do like them).
If they shut down operations, they would save even more!
The testing will come at beta when the box ships, like all other MS products :)
But I can't It won't install on Mandrake 8.1! :(
ROFOL
I'm probably going to download it and USE it!
Great work, keep it up!
