In the sense that the act of modding is now also illegal, in addition to the piracy, your liability/culpability under the law is greater now than it was before. Just think: if they can't get you on piracy charges for lack of evidence, now they can get you on modding!

I have found both the dock and the carrying case to be nearly useless. Also, the dock probably costs Apple about two cents to make (assuming they've recovered the cost for their plastic mold), and the carrying case probably costs them about thirty cents (a little cardboard, some fabric and some elastic). I doubt this is where Apple is getting its cost savings. Anyway, your better off buying aftermarket items that are just plain better.

And I believe that State law was on my side. I doesn't matter anyway, since they didn't change the price for at least another few weeks. I lost patience with the channels of recourse for these things. Consumers are screwed in these situations. At least I went on record with the FTC and the NY State AG's office. There's too much red tape to justify actually pursuing this type of claim, though. Also, documenting the transaction and the website's offer is a pain in the ass, and subject to defenses by Best Buy that the printed docs are forged. In other words, I gave up and put Best Buy on my shit list and call them out as bastards every chance that I get.

At the end of 2002, I was delighted to find a pair of CDJ-1000 CD players on sale at bestbuy.com for the ungodly low price of $800 and change each. I bought two immediately. Then I received an email indicating that they were revoking the offer. That's not allowed under the law, so I called them up and offered to file for fraud with the FTC.

They treated me like shit, and refused to honor the price. I filed against them at the FTC (yeah, a lot of good that did me--ho hum). I also demanded that they not process the charge on my card.

Not only did they charge my credit card, they double-charged it to the tune of $4000! Consequently, I spent the week Christmas 2002 with my credit card maxed out for a pair of turntables that I wasn't getting.

Obviously, Best Buy should be shot dead on the spot and dragged through the streets like the scum-sucking frauds that they are.

It's nonsense like your comment that causes Hollywood to ruin PKD stories. Have you read Minority Report? Was it necessary for them to create that fucking nonsense about child abusers? How about dulling down the KEY dynamic of Anderton as victim of his own ambitions? What about the dull rendition of Witwer as an ass-kissing punk who is playing Anderton in order ot get his job? What about the military character? How about the fact that precogs, who have been floating in jelly since childhood, can't get up and run around? Oh yeah, and let's completely fucking forget about how precogs work and what "minority report" means, because that's too boring for a film. We'd prefer jet packs and guys who look like they got lost on their way to the set for the Matrix. And God knows Tom Cruise is the kind of "everyman" character that PKD writes about.

As for punchcards being left out--it didn't seem to bother them that the precog results were delivered on balls through pneumatic tubing...LOL.

Why is it so fucking hard for people to understand that the protagonist of PKD stories is just some working class stiff who's trying to get from one day to the next. I actually think Arnold did a half-decent job of portraying that, despite his grotesque physical appearance. Based on his performance in the Fifth Element, Bruce Willis is also a worthy PKD "hero". Personally, I would cast Ed O'Neill or William Macy or Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the lead in a PKD story. FUCK KEANU! That asshole deserves multiple lifetimes of punishment for sucking even more life out of big budget Hollywood.

If you can't see the regional picture, that's your problem. Your shortsightedness doesn't mean it's a bad idea to turn Iraq upside down in order to flush out regional terrorism, bring the fight to the doorstep of the enemy, and scare the piss out of neighboring countries and their terror-sponsoring regimes. And stop saying that Iraq has no ties to terrorism. Two easy examples are the bounty Saddam paid to Palestinian "martyrs" and the existence of Ansar in Kurdish territories. Sure, no one has linked Saddam to Al Qaeda (yet), but why is that necessary? If you think that Al Qaeda is something categorically different than the PLO, Hamas, Fatah, IJ, etc., you're a fool. If you think that smashing Saudi terrorism in direct retaliation for 9/11 will solve the problem, you are an even bigger fool.

Nerds might not be lawyers, but lawyers can be nerds. As a nerd in lawyering (IAAL), I find this letter amusing. I doubt it was written by an actual lawyer on behalf of the firm. Any self-respecting lawyer would identify himself as such on the signature line. Work product from a serious law firm is not spruced up with ALL CAPS and bold text unless it is total amateur night.

Of course, I work out of New Yor, but even Cali lawyers usually generate professionally acceptable output. The reference to the MoFo lawyer in the opening line is strange, too. Lawyers rarely team up between firms unless they are being forced to do so. I know a letter from me on behalf of my client is going to avoid speaking on behalf of another law firm except in some really rare instances!

In my experience, contextual menus (which is presumably what people want those second buttons for) are implemented poorly in Windows 2000 and the apps that run on it. I know this because my Thinkpad's left button broke and I've been trying to work with only a right mouse button for a few weeks. There are just some situations where you can't right click to get what you want. Sure, it's often the application's fault, but it still sucks.
