    Why didn't you just quit? Seems like it would have been the easier thing to do?

    Best thing I did for my peace of mind was to stop logging in to the work systems on weekends unless I was specifically called about a problem.

    Indeed, this looks to potentially be a really nice platform for remote system administration as well as a phone. Too bad the first version isn't configured with the frequencies for AT&T's faster data network.

    This is right. 1,000 one TB tape cartridges does not too much. Until you need the robotic tape library in which to store it.

    Plus they don't stretch very easily, you'd need to apply considerable pressure to get them to expand, and the average guy's blood flow is not going to do that.

    You aren't supposed to use latex balloons for condoms! No wonder you have those problems. :-)

    My understanding: Under the DMCA, you can be in trouble for possessing technologies that could be used to circumvent technological protections on copyrighted material.

    Let's just hit everyone living with a DMCA take down notice because they have a brain in their head! You never know, that brain might be used as a tool to circumvent a protection mechanism some time.

    You're either stupid or joking - which one is it?
    If gold had inherent value we'd be using it for something else than money, doh!

    Gold is used for other things than money. Besides the obvious uses in jewelry, it is used for plating electrical connectors to prevent oxidation. It is also used for coloring certain glassware (red). I'm sure there are others I haven't even thought of.

    Cisco has been pushing into the Fibre Channel switch market also, and those switches have control processors running Linux on them. They were pushing various software companies to port things like SAN backup applications onto those processors. Ironically they refused to let us consider porting a custom data mover application from our archive software into the switch because we were an end user.

    I only saw one set of grandparents about once every 5 years. It seems like having the ability to visit with them on the screen is a bonus, but doesn't make up for grandma making home made cinnamon buns fresh and hot when you get up in the morning.

    Not if the wall your hand is touching describes a closed loop. Perhaps you should have marked your starting point with your blood so that you could recognize you were going in circles, and switched to the other wall. :-)

    I love it. At the end of the video when the robot has just about reassembled itself, the narrator says the robot will complete its task. The robot then promptly falls over. :-)

    Nah, just a bunch of dual core chips. Take a look at the IBM Journal of Research and Development which has a lot of nice detail. Look at Vol. 48, No. 3/4 and Vol. 51, No. 1/2.

    If the time lapse is the radar loop, that can be really useful. I look at the radar loop when it might rain or snow to determine if I should be leaving work early because I rode the motorcycle. If the main precipitation is headed somewhere else, I know I can ignore the clouds or light rain.

    I second the Goldtouch. I've been using one for a couple of years now at work. I like that it is easy to adjust when needed.
