To answer your question, and those of most others, the ink dries up (the ink docking station doesn't have a perfect seal by any means) and clogs up the print heads. On units with seperate (i.e. 4x$50) print heads, that would not be a good thing. Even on a 1 piece ink cartridge, the print head is going to be shit after 4 years - even if you used hp ink. Ditto with imaging drums on most hp lasers - they are designed to be replaced after a while - more frequently than some other companies.
There are several ways to override this btw - and some don't even void the warranty on the ink delivery system (although there is a documented way to use third party ink, but that sets a flag in the ink delivery system that voids its warranty)
I don't think that voiding the warranty of the ink system is unreasonable if you install some third party ink - if it clogs the system, how is that the printer manufacturer's fault? I suppose same concept is if the imitation ink cartridge leaks all over your printer. And yes, this has been around for quite some time. Of course, your point stands, that HP could code the cartridges for a certain time, but I think at that point consumer groups would bitch. Really, this article doesn't really have anything new, it has been like this for over 2 years.
I have no idea how x10 is still around, when they first came out, they were giving stuff out - I have 2 controllers, about 10 wall plug unit thingys and a couple of other gadgets - I paid perhaps $5 for everything including shipping. .
I find photon lights work really well, the cobalt blue for example. Blinds the fuck out of the cunt behind you and it is pretty focused, so nobody else. Of course, this might not be a good idea if you don't want to get into a fight, but hey
really, it's not that hard, walk up and do a Jack Ruby. Safety off, pull trigger, repeat. Sure, "sniping" someone might be a bit more difficult, but it's not like someone with fairly steady hands can't hit a man shaped target at 150 yards after a couple of hours of training.
But there are a couple of steps before wiping out MS completely. I would think that ntfs is more or less a standard, I would think that you know, linux would be able to write to these partitions out of the box without fucking them up. Perhaps I'm just a bit bitter from a recent experience, but hey.
That said, there are significant advances every so often in the open source / linux world - not so much for windows. Besides a few minor changes (which solved pretty annoying problems), I really don't see the big difference between windows 2000 server and 2003 server. And I really don't think longhorn is going to help MS much either. Anyways, its late, mod me down, up whatever, goodnight;)
yes, but pricematch goodness in those stores keeps deal seekers coming back. There are also pretty good coupons too - i.e. I got a $15 off $30 coupon a week ago for Office Depot. Its closer there than to the frys nearby and I can usually expect the stuff I buy there to work.
Hell, staples pricematched online until about 6 months ago, tigerdirect prices without the tigerdirect bullshit - at least for whatever they have in stock. Funny thing was, they never had internet in the stores, all you needed was a print out a page with the product and the price.
5 year warranties, sigh. The good old days - actually I just got a 13 GB drive replaced by maxtor - refused to spin up, thankfully the freezer trick worked so I could get the data off it. BTW, if anyone wants to explain the physics behind that, that would be really cool.
Oh come on, seriously, if you had a rack full of ports, its not like an additional port would make a visible difference, say, in the area of 500 ports - even if you were looking, I'd highly doubt that you would notice that extra light. I'm not even going to go into the average "admin" who became the computer tech because he / she sat beside the printer.
Well, we are closing schools and perhaps shortening the school week to 4 days [although we aren't, as of yet, as fscked as California]. Might be an idea to get software that is like, you know, cheaper than the standard suites - especially if you only need the capabilities of one of the programs within the suite.
Strangely, by some sort of dumb luck I'm assuming - I never saw one of these emails until I was helping my dad with something on his box about 4 months ago - I've been on the net since '96 and when I saw it I took it to be a joke - hell, I was rolling on the floor in tears laughing by the end, of course, the amusement dies out after the first time, but hey.
I mean - it's not like the people sending me "increase your dick size 8" now" / nigerian king emails are actually selling legit products, and I really doubt they care about any laws or regulations.
I really don't want to sound like an asshole, and I have nothing but support for the space program - but I think realistically budgets are going to get slashed in the next little while and nasa isn't going to fare too well. I think the most important question is whether the aerospace companies will take the incentive to continue projects that have little chance of getting funding in the forseeable future.
OK, I'll bite, I have an athlon 700 oc'ed to 1050 with a nice heatsink and 2 case fans. Runs at a nice comfortable 38 Deg C - also hella quieter than a G4 MDD / "Windtunnel" - even after the firmware patch. I get these poor bastards calling in with MDD's and you can _very_ easily tell if the luser shut down or just rebooted./end bitter tech support rant.
well, I'd hate to disagree with you, but a 9mm slug does pretty much the same thing. In fact, a 9mm slug fired from a pistol will go through 5 half height hard drives. Umm, "extensive research" has been conducted by myself
I've found that the bullet will go right through the hard drive and actually bend / stretch the platter outside the case - I'm thinking that would make recovery pretty damn hard on the 1/4 of the disk affected by it. I have some pics, I have to dig them up. Of course, firing a weapon is probably the last thing you want to do when the fbi is waiting, tho it will probably give you a bit more time;)
I have to say that single hdd for cheap is cool, but not as impressive in the price drop on arrays, etc. I recently got a 10KRPM [10 drives] 40GB Rack mount ultra wide scsi 2 array with hot swap and a 32mb cache for $40. I thought this was an insane deal, this thing cost thousands new, but then I looked at ebay and it is more or less in the same price range as other similar systems - that, imho is the most impressive [except perhaps for the 0 frames dropped while recording video:) ]
I think we could make the arguement that dylan couldn't sing ever. Thats just me tho

passport? adobe [trialware registration] or buy.com sells your addy to porn spammers. I've never actually gotten a nigerian money scam email, my dad is like "I get them all the time". Of course filtering html email and filtering the word "unsubscribe" in the body to trash tends to work really well for keeping yahoo free of spam.

Yeah, done already.
also its pretty common to run progs as root in a chroot jail, google for more info.

wow, you took that pretty seriously. Thats kind of funny.

Our friend named Ted "The un[i|a]bomber" "K" fertilized his veggies with his own shiat, and look how he turned out ;)

Stupid question, but I must ask, I'm assuming that doing this would like so kill your transmission.
I've never tried this, for obvious reasons, but have always wondered if there is protection against user stupidity?
lol. +5, so true though.
