Actually insuring a vacant house isn't that hard. There are riders that will do it or a premises liability policy. Note that the reason you can't find anyone to insure it is because an agent that has to work just for this one small policy isn't going to waste their time. Find a reputable agent, and give them all of your insurance (personal auto, homeowners, personal umbrella). They will be happy to find coverage for your vacant house at a very reasonable price with an admitted insurance company. Don't try and buy direct, buying direct just gets you poorly educated salesmen that can't analyze your risk properly. Go to an agent that has a CIC, CPCU, or CRM designation.
P.S. I'm one test away from a CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) and I just finished the test on Personal Insurance today:-)
Company X is fully at fault for this. Just as they are fully at fault for any injury that would have occured to your father. This is part of the responsibility (liability) that comes with being in business, or owning a home.
For examlple, Homeowner's coverage protects me from accidental bodily injury or property damage for which I am held liable. This means that if it is determined that I was at fault, whether or not I FEEL it was my fault or not, I am liable (and at fault legally and monetarily). The law and the courts determine fault, not I. That is why I used the term "held liable" rather than just liable.

I have to agree with you. I have been programming professionally for about 9 yrs. now (I'm 22). I have been told countless times by older developers that my advantage is youth. I have taken this to heart, trying to learn as many languages (and other things) as possible now while I can still soak in and apply the largest amounts of what I learn.
I think that the cause of the loss of the "gift" is mostly due to becoming "set in your ways". For instance, I am now learning dvorak because I had become comfortable with QWERTY. I'm learning basic construction skills (an area I know nothing about). All these things just to try and slow the inevitable...
I was just about to buy one yesterday but they were just too big. I really wanted a phone with speakerphone and BT, and this seems to be the only one that I can get on T-Mobile or Cingular.
Went for a T68i instead. It'll have to do for now (atleast it has BT).
I run a consulting business. I have been writing business software since I was 12 yrs old (hired at 13 after completing a 1 yr project for free to show that they SHOULD hire a 13 yr old ). I am now 22. So I have been developing professionally for 10 yrs.
Recently I quoted a job to that was going to require the skill of a structural engineer. I felt I could complete the project if I had a structural engineer to guide me through the engineering portion of the project.
Now, here's the kicker....10 yrs programming experience (not alot, but more than many others my age), no structural engineer experience and still I couldn't take the job for one reason:
My insurance agent (after lots and lots of research) told me that by taking the job, I would have the same liability and need for coverage as a structural engineer. Ok, so I'll buy the coverage. Only problem is that the coverage would cost me up the butt because I don't have a degree in structural engineering.
So, if I had decided to actually take the project, well, then I would have been both a software engineer AND from an insurable standpoint a structural engineer!

For me, if it takes hours to get the user/password, that is just unacceptable.
For me and most of the people that I'm around, cable modem is the norm. So the idea of having to wait hours for a username/password, is like the idea of a 3k web page taking hours to load. If I'm on the prowl for something, I want it now!
I prefer not giving email anyways, but if I must, I always give a hotmail account that I then go and clear the 2mbs of spam from:)
I started developing when I was 9 yrs old. Because of California law, I wasn't able to actually get paid for my work until I was 14. At the time I was working as a developer for my Great Uncle's insurance agency doing corporate database development.
This corporation is run by the books, so basically they told me I could do what I wanted, but that they wouldn't be able to pay me for my work until I turned 14.
I've also been an active member of the development community for the product that I develop with (www.dataaccess.com). I have given many speeches, even submitted source that was incorporated into the language, all while under the age of 18. Now of course I have no problems, I'm almost 21.
But I've also used this whole 'under 18 no contract' thing to my advantage. It came in handy when dealing with a warranty contract on some equipment I purchased. I shouldn't have even been able to purchase a warranty, but they let me. Later when the product broke, I took it back and they told me that the contract stated that I had to send it in for repair, not bring it in for replacement. After pointing out to him that I was under 18 and he could get in trouble for even selling me a warranty, they promptly accepted the broken product and handed me a nice new box.
So I used it for a threat. So what, all the same;) Anyways, I see both sides of this story. I feel that I was being shafted while under 18, but I also used it to my advantage.
In the long run, I would hope that something would come along to patch up this hole in contract law.
I think in California that maybe this has been dealt with. I was able to open a bank account and even have a VISA before I was 18 because my father signed as a proxy on the contract. (He couldn't though access the money in the account, he was not a signor on account, just a contract proxy)

It was really quite interesting to setup. The ones we made turned out so-so. The problem was the only room that we had to create the holograms in was on the 2nd floor of the house. So all kinds of vibrations from below caused some problems.
If ur going 2 do this urself, I'd advise setting up the project in a school's darkroom or janitor's closet with a cement floor.
Make sure ur far away from streets and all forms of noise (and therefore vibrations) as this REALLY causes problems.

Why can't it be a windows application just needing a DirectWindows layer to run on Linux...
