    I watched the one on snopes, and I think the entire thing was a really poorly done bit (as much as I'd like to be able to believe he was serious).

    He chuckles in the lead-up, and his cadence in the lead up (from we were so worried...) is like the set-up to a punchline. As far as one (2 maybe) liners delivered by politicians, it's solidly average.

    Redhat* -> mandrake (when it was basically just rebranded redhat) -> suse (when the 7cd version was still $60, they had the delayed source release x server that worked for my card)* -> debian -> mandrake (when it was now more or less It's own thing, I left when they blocked access to 64bit versions even though $60/year subscription was more than windows )* -> long break with windows pretty exclusively -> ububtu (feisty fawn, it may of been perfect) *

    I really liked feisty fawn, it was the first time I used gnome 2, and it just felt right, the top panel, and then taskbar on the full bottom, both fairly thin. The gentle rounded corners, I am one of the few that loved the human theme too. It was before the complete lock-ups on heavy disk load that plagued ubuntu (and allegedly it was a kernel issue, so perhaps others) for years. I don't know what's really improved since then.

    The stars mark distros that were my primary os for an extended time.

    Interestingly, I heard a news story where they talked to the drone pilots, and a lot of them have more issues, as they are killing much more often and in some ways much more personally than other pilots. They are literally sitting there and watching the carnage.

    Interesting, I find that Shock-Top (which falls between micro-brew and macro-brew) is always the first to go on a hot day, unless people are being polite.

    I'd say a Victory Prima Pils or Helios are ideal hot weather outside beers too, but Shock Top is the one that people seem to really like en mass, and almost universally prefer over random macro-brew.

    Just tested wireless (as it was wired), I am once again connected via SSH on a fresh boot (no login).

    I find NetworkManager annoying because I don't know how it works, and can't change it with a terminal, like I used to know how to do. But I assume it uses some time of communication and a curses client could be made, if it doesn't exist yet.

    The /etc/default folder was annoying to me at first (where'd all these things go), but I like it now that I can use it.

    This is Ubuntu 12.04, so it may be within the last 6 months that network manager allowed for this.

    I did as you suggested such as selecting "connect automatically" and also the "Allow all users to access" checkbox.

    I've never actually used a server as a wireless client, so it didn't occur to me, and if I were it'd be in an extending type situation where I'd want a more router focused type distro (and probably use an ASUS router with custom firmware), but it looks like this is not a limitation of network manager.

    Funny, I'm using a stock desktop install (which I assume uses network manager) with the only extra packages at this point being kde-full, SSH, aptitude, nmap, and htop.

    I can ssh in before logging in with any user, am i to assume this is before the networking starts, or that you are wrong about the implication?

    something along the line of a last minute design change and waking up a bunch of people from their dorms, give them coffee, then put them on 12 hour shifts (this was Apple's take on it anyway).

    As a Tmo user (weakish coverage), killer feature is download for offline on maps (maybe the new maps work on gingerbread though)

    Phone calls are their most important function

    It's been a long time since that's been true for me, phone calls come behind texting, Im, email, facebook, camera, maps, radio, and web browser for me (I use most of these more in a day than the phone in a typical week).

    Aside from some business things that don't come to my office number, and my grandmother, I don't use the phone. 911 is the only function it has I found important, and I wouldn't be surprised if I never actually need that.

    Also, with adobe it's a low ($50) upfront cost, and only marginally more than buying outright (the up the cost of their upgrades by version).

    It's probably a wash on the master collection it includes, upgrading from cs3 was a no brainer where I work (18 months before an outright purchase saved, and assuming cs6.5 or 7 came out then, it'd be a full 2 years if staying current).

    A major cashflow win for a small business.

    Their system is immune to this.

    They simply stamp a piece of paper with a time, and about 5-10% of the cars have fare checkers. The fine is enough that it's not worth cheating (though I've done it when a youth and out of cash, but wanting to get home. I assume a crying American child that doesn't speak German traveling alone is not worth processing).

    If it was a renewal, the old licenses may not have the right details to face recognize? my license I was getting replaced was already post smile, and also, yeah, the new fancy one is where i went.

    Really? I wonder if it has to do with state population.

    I went to get a replacement for a move (in Delaware), and before I said my name, they snapped a pick and asked if I was "fistname lastname", I assume they're testing the software with renewals, losses, and change of addresses, and it appears to work.

    The windows 7 taskbar may be slightly larger, but it is by far the best taskbar/dock I have ever used. Nothing else comes close to the efficiancy of finding the correct window out of a half dozen for the same app, raising it, and knowing exactly where it will be.

    to dismiss the change as only wasting space is silly.

    I purchased a xoom on clearance, and it was well worth the 240 I paid for it, but the Motorola accessories suck.

    unlocked up a dock on clearance with built in speaker. I was hoping it'd be better than my logitech mini boombox as it was powered from a wall, rather than USB. It touted "amazing sound", and though it was better in quality than the mini boombox, it was pretty much in audible with mild background noise, I use the mini boombox with windows cracked driving 60 mph in a car, and over 70 with windows up.

    I can't use this dock within 20 feet of a copy machine, and barely in my room when the birds chirp in the am.

    Even at the huge markdown for clearance, the speaker is worthless (though a charging dock is nice, so not a Rio off).

    I suppose It's what I get for buying a device that used standards (micro USB, geni), but if I purchased an iAnythibg dock that plugged in and had a speaker, it'd retail for far less, and play better (de facto standard and competition is beating real standards and nothing being compatible due to physical differences in the standard ports).

    In the long run, the current human population uses 5kg of energy a year, we can pretty easily expand that, and push off any crisis if we can pull efficiant mass -> energy conversion.

    It's all in the tech.

    when I make this observation I am pulling all 16 mbps from usenet-news.net.

    pause it, try something else (a typical ubuntu mirror, though I found one that regularly gives.me 4-8 mbps now).

    It's very rare that I find somewhere that matches Usenet speed on any given day.

    I was at an office building, and my.connection to godaddy ftp was pretty quick.

    Interesting, aside from newsgroups, the rare other download, and speed test sites, I am never hitting my peak of 16Mbps, I was assuming it was a matter of remote sites.

    I would assume the (for now) the vast majority of that 160mps would be wasted (especially since I still use a 100 mpbs router).

    Considering my car calls pulling the left stalk towards me "flash to pass" I don't see how anyone could call that wrong to do.

    As for 2-4 car lengths following distance (I assume you mean minimum), I would think that is unsafe on the highway (at speed).
